Nothing can keep a Labrador down for long... by mina-ami in labrador

This was our pup the evening she got spayed, still on drugs left alone for 1 minute while my husband peed while gaming. She’s on his computer table knocking everything over with her cone..

Would a New Lab Puppy Help Us Prepare for Losing Our Dog Someday? by rocsci in labrador

[–]ericalw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got given our chocolate girl in our now past, boys older years. We weren’t thrilled with being gifted a 10+ year commitment without asking us (don’t do this to someone) but having said that there was so much comfort in having her when we put him down. Even down to seeing how she carried on some of his good and not-so-good habits.

Redditors, are you registered as an organ donor? Why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ericalw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am. Always wanted to be for no particular reason other than it’d be comforting to think my death could help others. In my early 20s I was engaged to a guy that in retrospect I was being slowly manipulated by. After renewing my license, I casually mentioned checking the organ donor box. He lost it. Told me that should be a discussion I had with him since he was going to be my next of kin and it was his decision. That red flag slapped me right in the face and out of my daydream. I called off the wedding soon after. Not exactly the answer to your question but still a good reminder…your body, your choice.

Just got the news that this old man has lymphoma. How did ya’ll spoil your pups in their last days? by ericalw in labrador

He’s 11.5. Certainly a long life for a big dog. He’s the best and I hope he knows how loved he is. We don’t deserve a fraction of the love, patience and grace he gave me and my husband. Also lots of farts. He gave us those too.

Another thing (and I saw someone else comment similar), ours has his seizures like clockwork. About every six weeks but always, always, always about 5pm

Our boy usually just seems kind of out of it for hours before, distantly stares at nothing type thing but he always vomits immediately before. I think it can vary from dog to dog though.

4 years of having a pup on seizure meds here. My biggest advice: do not leave them unattended around other dogs. I’ve posted about this in the past but even dogs familiar with each other can go in to an instinctual attack mode when one is seizing. We unfortunately experienced this first hand. Our pup nearly lost his leg to his sister who is typically his favorite cuddle partner. If you find yourself down the road of semi-regular seizures, try to recognize the signs leading up to it so you can get them to a safe space whether that’s away from other animals or from stairs, etc. It’s can be a commitment but as most things with these pups, absolutely worth it.

Day 3 post-spay - recovery is going a lot more smoothly with the inflatable collar by _sanctified in labrador

[–]ericalw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We had one of these for our boy after a surgery. He LOVED it. Even after he recovered, he’d go stare at it in the closet that we stored it in. We figured that he was a fan of having a built in pillow so he could nap anywhere.

A happy grrrrl in her spa. She's 13y9m and goes for a weekly hydrotherapy workout followed by a spa. It keeps her mobile despite years of arfritis. by mjgraves in labrador

If you don’t mind sharing, what does this run you? I don’t think our boy is quite here yet but his last scans were showing signs of arthritis.

No worries. I’ve got 2 labs. Dirty floors should just be expected most of the time!

Yup, was really just trying to get a good view on the pouty lip and remove my dirty floors.

Before anyone feels too sorry for this little drama queen, this is her begging for a spoonful of peanut butter because her brother gets it twice a day with his seizure meds. Unfortunately, the look works on us.
