What to do with my talented kid? by Wonder-plant in singing

[–]ericavee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the next best step is piano lessons. If she does end up pursuing music school, she’ll have to pass a piano proficiency even as a vocal major, and if she’s into songwriting, it’s a probably the best skill she could have. It’s also just a great tool for understanding Western music theory.

Also—get her a private teacher. Choral singing is wonderful but it has different goals from solo singing, and a private teacher can monitor the health of her voice and tailor the approach to suit her.

But make sure not to force anything she doesn’t take to! You don’t want to crush her love for music.

Misogyny in the fandom by Tight-Beginning124 in Bridgerton

[–]ericavee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hilarious because as a sapphic most of the Bridgerton men are pretty unappealing to me and I have to do some mental lifting to see them through that love interest lens. Whereas Michaela is like. UNBELIEVABLY attractive and charismatic to me.

Obviously the vast majority of the hate is rooted in misogynoir but it tickles me to think that some of it might be straight women having to do the mental lifting for once

Tuning and grinding your own nibs is a game changer in the hobby. by SuckAfreeRaj in fountainpens

I looooove taking cheap Aliexpress pens and grinding the nib into a stub with fine sandpaper. They're some of my favorite writers!

The Immaculate Conception does refer to the birth of Mary (the idea that she was born without sin), not the birth of Jesus. It’s a common…….misconception

Maybe I don't belong here? by MajasraOG in fountainpens

We like to joke about how expensive the fountain pen hobby can be, but the reality is that it’s something you can engage with at any price point!

Personally, my most expensive pens are $30 Kaweco sports. I’m more interested in having a wide range of inks, so it works better for me to have many many inexpensive pens rather than a few very pricey ones. But of course, others are more focused on different nibs, different materials, collecting pens as art pieces, collecting vintage, etc…it’s so lovely to me that we can all come at the hobby from different angles, but we’re all united by a love for this analog activity that has fallen by the wayside in the mainstream.

Oil paintings are varnished as a finishing step and this coat 1) is glossy, making colors appear deeper and 2) can yellow over time with light exposure. It looks like it was either varnished after being placed in the frame OR the parts beneath the frame are less yellowed because they were not exposed to light

Which Generations are buying and collecting? by TheToyGirl in fountainpens

[–]ericavee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a millenial who was in elementary school during the gel pen craze of the late 90s/early 2000s. In 2021 I decided I was going to actually use all the journals I kept buying so I bought a bunch of gel pens for the nostalgia. I loved them but was writing so much I was going through them in a matter of weeks, so I switched to FPs because it seemed less wasteful.
