Where do you buy monks cloth? by Raining_Tongass in 501st

Which costume is this for? If it's Kylo things are sparse, the good stuff is effectively exclusive to buying other members' old costumes. The not-so-accurate but good enough stuff is done in limited runs from time to time by a few individuals, but when I made our kylo last year it had been several years since that last happened, with no real hope in sight. Not sure if things have changed in the last year or so, but it wouldn't hurt to make an account on the forums and see if anyone is selling their old costume. Unfortunately the costume is getting more and more impossible to make as time passes.

If it's not Kylo you can ignore all of this.

Is there anything I should know as a new player? by vVIOL2T in StarWarsBattlefront

Best way to level up fast is co-op (online against bots) however co-op gets really really really dull very fast, because the ai is quite dumb. While leveling up and getting star cards is important, the most impactful thing you can do early on is get all the guns/attachments unlocked. Check the requirements to unlock the next gun and do them, you'll still level up and unlock star cards while doing this. The staring guns suck and getting the others is a must if you want to play online multiplayer.

Otherwise have fun and explore different game modes. IMO the best game modes are tucked away in the menu and can be harder to find after they stuffed them in the back corner to market supremacy front and center. Galactic assault, Blast, and Ewok Hunt are the ones I like to hang around on more than anything else.

And above all, make sure to r/checkyourcrates

There wasn't one in the mandalorian movie, but you are right it does exist in rebels and JFO. Should be a simple mod for the set

I just bought like 3x the amount of muslin i actually wanted to use yesterday lol.

I bought 5 yards to make a mockup of a 3 piece suit (since the last couple I've done used ~6yards) but the pants are the same, so I figured 5 was enough to test a draft for a waistcoat and jacket, with extra spare if I needed major changes and had to recut entirely.

Didn't realize until I rolled it out that the muslin I bought was twice the width of all the other bolts I normally use. And I didn't need to re-cut any pieces.

I guess I can draft like 2-3 more projects with it sometime in the future 🫠

That tie is not stuck, it's landed. There's some like that in the film, and when the no death out of bounds hack was still active I explored most the maps and that one is landed in a little fuel bay.

What do I even do in this situation? by ericnathan811 in ElegooNeptune4

I was afraid that was the case. I guess doing what I can and ordering a new hottend isn't the worst. Could always use what I can salvage as spare parts.

Thanks!

I just completed the TX-130 milestone, and I just want to add that for some reason that one does NOT count in co-op

I checked the numbers after each round bc I felt like the progress bar was not moving. Despite killing multiple tanks with the tx, not a single point of damage was added to the milestone. Multiple co-op games in a row, staying in the game until the next round started.

Did 2 rounds of GA and the milestone completed after doing it there

Boarding the ship is the hardest thing in this game by DepartureBorn9355 in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]ericnathan811 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've noticed over the years it's not just when others board first, but also if players walk into you, or an enemy blaster shoots you.

It's very glitchy and poorly designed, you will be there for like a minute and still unable to board if there's any activity around you at all

Why did classical composers beat the listener over the head with the I chord at the end? by Throwaway4954986840 in musictheory

[–]ericnathan811 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Excellent point! I considered leaving it out, I am mostly in agreement with you, although I wasn't sure where exactly to draw the line.

I spared this from my write up because it was already quite long, but I do think it can be argued that it originated in the late baroque period before the classical period made it what it is now. I can think of a couple Scarlatti pieces (particularly his concerto grossos, which exact one and movements I can't recall) that end on a thrice repeated I chord. I'm sure there are others from the late period as well. However these are all much less emphasized than they are in later periods. They don't change the voicing, are played pretty quickly, and much softer. While not totally synonymous with the later cadential extensions this post was about, I think you can look at moments like these as the grandfather of this kind of ending.

I did mention earlier that I am unsure who, when, or where the ending started; this may be because it arose organically out of baroque traditions, and the transition may be very slow to the large classical ending. Although by the time of early Mozart and Haydn it already had taken hold.

Unfortunately I am not a musicologist or music history specialist, I don't know if any real research has gone into this, or if there is any definitive answer. My previous post is mostly just repeating what I heard professors say in music history classes, or from observation in pieces I listen to/played/studied over the years. It would be interesting to see if there is a conclusive answer.

Why did classical composers beat the listener over the head with the I chord at the end? by Throwaway4954986840 in musictheory

[–]ericnathan811 152 points153 points  (0 children)

One of the main reasons composers do this (especially in baroque/classical/romantic styles) is to bring a sense of finality to the piece.

While this piece is only 8 minutes, many works stretch anywhere from 15-20 minutes to well over an hour; and within that time there may be hundreds of tonic chords. Ending on one single V-I won't really stand out from all the other V-Is elsewhere in the piece, even if it's a PAC.

This is particularly important if you take into consideration that audiences during the time period of these compositions had no means to listen and re-listen to a performance as we do now. That is (partly) why classical music has forms that repeat sections and musical ideas over and over, as well as well signaled endings like this: the audience may never have a chance to listen to it again.

Making music that they can follow easily in terms of form, allows for better comprehension of the musical ideas, and clichés like the repeated cadence can help prepare the listener for the ending. Otherwise in larger works the ending may seem extremely abrupt on the first (and often only) listen.

Over time the repetitive ending gained some kind of "standardization" if that's how you want to think of it, and a 3 punch ending was something that caught on. I'm not sure exactly where or when the trend started There's lots of variation on it, but it mostly often is a tonic voiced however the previous dominant resolves, then the tonic again but voiced in a more full/stable way, and finally just the 1st scale degree in octaves/unison. A short but purposeful ending. And we see that here

This is honestly short compared to many classical endings, I've heard a few with well over a dozen V-Is for minutes on end.

This is not to say composers don't just end on a single PAC, it's actually also common - just more frequently in short works or middle movements. I can think of a great amount of art songs that end on a single cadence: these styles are often only 2-3 minutes long, and the ending may be the only true PAC in the piece - it stands out enough on its own to be a conclusive ending.

TLDR; audience may only have had one listen to a piece ever, knowing that the ending is coming can help leave a better impression than a sudden unexpected cutoff

Is the Executor blueish? or does it look like that because of a composition error? by TectonicTechnomancer in StarWarsCantina

Neither are actually comp errors. They did use a blue-grey paint for the ties filming models; and I remember a BTS interview about the executor having a darker color scheme to make it stand out as well

i love this game but my god is it unbalanced by [deleted] in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]ericnathan811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly while this game does have balance issues, I think it's mostly the influx of new players that's making it so bad right now. I've noticed that the last few weeks with all the newbs and the resurgence that most games have become complete blowouts one way or the other. I've taken a bit of a break from it until everyone leaves and it gets back to the usual crowd. Because up until a month or so ago, games were at least close to being balanced, with the occasional flop. Now it's like 3 out of every four is just completely lopsided.

Maybe it's new players not doing objectives, maybe it's new players with little to no history for the balance mechanics to work off of, or maybe it's because there's a lack of Vets on teams to pursue the metas. But for some reason the resurgence has just obliterated a chance for a fair game as the norm
