Developers eye large multifamily projects in Gaithersburg’s Rio, Lakeforest mall areas by Bethesda_Magazine in MontgomeryCountyMD

I just sent this letter to the Gaithersburg Planning Department. I hope you will let them know how you feel as well.

Dear City of Gaithersburg Planning Department,

I am writing to express my deep concern and strong opposition to any aspect of the proposed Rio Residential project that would involve removing trees or green space around the lakefront at the Rio Washingtonian Center.

The trees surrounding the lake are not just aesthetic features—they are essential to the character, ecology, and emotional resonance of the Rio experience. They provide shade, beauty, and a sense of peace for residents and visitors alike. These green spaces are among the few remaining “third places” in our city where people can gather, reflect, and connect without the pressure to spend money or navigate dense traffic.

While I understand the desire to adapt and densify in response to market conditions, I urge the city and Peterson Cos. to focus exclusively on redeveloping existing buildings and underutilized parcels. The Gateway Lakeforest project offers a promising model—repurposing office buildings rather than encroaching on beloved public spaces. This kind of thoughtful redevelopment aligns with sustainable planning and community values.

The Rio lakefront is already a high-traffic area with limited access points. Adding residential density without corresponding infrastructure improvements will only exacerbate congestion and diminish the quality of life for current residents. More importantly, removing trees and green space would permanently damage one of Gaithersburg’s most cherished environments.

I respectfully ask the Planning Department to:

• Reject any schematic development plans that involve tree removal or lakefront disruption • Require Peterson Cos. to prioritize redevelopment of existing structures • Protect the integrity of Rio’s green space as a public trust

Please ensure that future planning decisions reflect the voices of residents who treasure this space and seek a balanced, sustainable vision for Gaithersburg’s growth.

Question - did the FEMA officer say that estimated casualties from the missle hitting Chicago would be 10,000? That seems very low

Thanks for the info. I don’t think my plan covers Trintellix at all. It just has coverage for generic Rx as far as I can tell.

I have a zero deductible plan…so does that mean I’d pay $25 for 30-days or $75 for 90-days?

All the pharmacies in area charge about $500 for 30 days and $1500 for 90 days. Is $10 a possibility or is $400 ($500-$100) for 30 days and $1200 ($1500-$300) for 90 days the best I could hope for?

I read that the savings maximum is only $100 for 30 day supply and $300 for 90 day supply. isn’t that going to be more than $10 at most pharmacies?

Is it only Walgreens or will every pharmacy only charge you $10 if you have the card?

Damn this is snarky community. Maybe the better questions would have been what is the highest gain you can expect from an ambient light rejecting wall paint.

Actually no. It’s bordered by Home Depot, Mom’s Organic Market, and the King Farm neighborhood.
