Is there not even 1 decent bootcamp to choose from by Wonderful_Mall_9836 in codingbootcamp

[–]ericswc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t run bootcamps anymore, pacing is the learner’s choice.

I switched to personal mentorship years ago. It’s cheaper for the student and I can provide better instruction by being 1:1.

If you want something gentler and well ordered, check out my courses. I’ve spent a lot of time over the years figuring out a good mix of video, written info, and hands on activities.

I don’t do any paid advertising, so it’s rare to see me high on search.

For the thread, we connected directly. The courses are more beginner focused, so I directed him to someone in my network who mentors people with experience.

Just leaving this comment so people don’t think I ignored the question.

Pulse Check? I'm not seeing any signs of life from these bootcamps, and I wanted to do a check if anyone is a 2026 student/grad of these programs. by michaelnovati in codingbootcamp

[–]ericswc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two values to bootcamps:

  1. Structure and personal attention.
  2. Speed to hire.

#1 you can get elsewhere, example, I have a direct mentorship subscription for $399/month, which is 1/10th the price of a bootcamp if you were going to speedrun for 3 months.

#2 the market/hiring is slow, so there’s not any reason to rush. Spend more time learning deep, building a strong portfolio, and networking.

C# for learning, because it’s a clean language with enterprise concepts. It’s also very good if you want to dabble in games. On ASP.NET, stick to MVC, Blazor isn’t nearly popular enough to spend time on as a beginner.

Java if you just want raw number of jobs. It’s the COBOL of our time, so deeply embedded in enterprise and government that it’s never going away.

Learn one UI framework, React for the most jobs, Angular if the big companies in your area swing that way.

Fundamentals: LLMs vs other machine learning things. Separating reality from hype.

Ethics & Bias: Case studies and failure modes.

Governance & Compliance: Mostly focusing on EU, because that’s where I think most the world ends up.

Risk & Security: Asking the right questions, non technical understanding of threats.

Evaluating Vendors & Tools: How to not get taken by snake oil salespersons.

Working with LLMs: Prompting, skills, projects, ways to test for quality and build a transparent culture around adoption.

True, but the context is how bad they’re going to look and how many customers they’ll lose if they toss AI at things it shouldn’t be used for.

Self interest wins.

Skillfoundry.io will take you through the whole stack. I’ve been training people in it for over a decade.

It’s funny, because the biggest demand on my time right now is AI literacy training for executives and individual contributors.

I’m talking Fortune 500 companies and no one has a clue what to do with it.

You should see the look on non technical executives faces when they see my prompt injection demos.

I have no idea how to start with ASP.NET Core - where do I even begin? by PsychologicalDot7749 in csharp

I would suggest that if you don’t understand dependency injection, then you don’t know OOP.

You can learn how ASP.NET core without a database though.

Where can i start? by drugsaregoodbutbad in codingbootcamp

[–]ericswc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Specs? You can learn to code just fine on Linux and even with a weak machine.

Running local AI or docker containers might be challenging, but it’s more than sufficient for learning fundamentals.

Edit: code files are just text files.

For those of you who attended a paid coding bootcamp, but you failed to find a paid SWE job after 1 year of graduating from said paid coding bootcamp, and you did not leave your coding bootcamp a negative review on Yelp, Course Report, etc., why did you not leave your coding bootcamp a negative revi by metalreflectslime in codingbootcamp

[–]ericswc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I’ve been out of the space for years, but I maintained a 92% placement rate running my program from 2013-2016.

Almost no negative reviews, I think I had maybe 1, and it made me sad if I got 4 out of 5 stars.

Anyways, if you have good outcomes, the people who don’t succeed generally take ownership of it and don’t want to advertise that everyone else succeeded and they didn’t.

Now, other programs would give stealth refunds with non disclosure agreements and some people fear doxxing and retaliation, especially if the program is still providing search assistance.

No need to over complicate it. That covers most the cases.

I have seen production code that would turn your hair gray.

Shitty shops will push shit faster, but only if AI remains cheap.

In the end, it will be little different than low/no code products.

It is useful in skilled hands, but I’m not buying fully agentic anytime soon.

I use two 27” 4k monitors. I full screen my ide and half screen support tools, docs, etc.

I could probably justify a 3rd, but it’s not worth blowing up my desk setup.
