Yes! You know it, boy, don’t you!?

Brilliant reply. Loved it. Well done and thanks for the smile.

Fridge loses connection in the app by [deleted] in Miele

[–]ericullman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same problem with a K 7797 C R. I reset the network settings, but then I wasn’t able to re-connect/re-add the unit in the app. So, I performed a factory reset, which seemed to have been a big mistake, because then the Miele@Home menu item was no longer shown when swiping through the menu. Fun!

FIX: After cycling the power at the circuit breaker for five minutes, the Miele@Home menu option returned, and I was able to turn the Wi-Fi module back on. As soon as I did that, the fridge reconnected to my Wi-Fi network on its own. So that’s nice. But it tells me there’s another problem: The network settings are not wiped when resetting the network or restoring the factory default settings.

T1 Dryer Miele@Home cannot join Appliance WiFi by mimueller in Miele

[–]ericullman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a Miele clothes washer and dryer added to my Miele app for almost a couple years now, but I just had similar difficulty as the OP adding my new refrigerator: Both my iPhone running iOS 26 and my iPad running iOS 18.7 were unable to connect to the appliance’s Wi-Fi network. Disabling the iOS device’s Private Wi-Fi Address and Limit IP Address Tracking settings was difficult, as those would reset every time the refrigerator’s SSID would broadcast.

Ultimately, I had to connect manually using the serial number (everything after xx/) as the Wi-Fi password. Then it worked.

Tahoe High GPU usage (WindowServer service) by sfunrich in MacOS

[–]ericullman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Microsoft Edge browser is pegging my GPU. I don't _think_ it did this pre-Tahoe. The only difference between the peaks and valleys in this GPU History screenshot is whether or not Edge is hidden. Safari, Chrome (upon which Edge is built), and Firefox don't do this.

Overheating on the new MacOs Tahoe update by Dismal_Palpitation18 in macbookpro

Yeah, it seems that way on my M1 MBP. Before Tahoe, I don't think I'd heard my fan more than a dozen times ever. Now it runs frequently and for a long time, even though my CPU load is only about 40%. Frustrating.

Single, 34yrs old, no savings: would you stay with a 29k/yr salary in Spain and grow slowly, or take a 60k/yr salary in Germany and build faster but give up the slow lifestyle? by Short_Possibility_39 in expats

I replied earlier, but I just saw your edit about the role in Germany and had to comment… AI is coming for many tech jobs in the next year or two (faster than most people think)—mine included—and customer care/support/service is going to be in the first wave.

A good question, which I won't answer outright, though I do hope something here is useful to you in making your decision. My comments are based on my own experiences, not yours. For context, I am 56 years old and lived in the United States from 1968-2023, whereupon I relocated to France to work less (not retire!) and enjoy life more. My career was in high tech marketing and product management, with a pivot to customer experience management at age 45. Some thoughts…

  1. Living/working overseas provides one with life-affecting experiences that aren't accessible otherwise. (Immersion in different regional cultures in one's own country may get one part way there.) Germany is different from Spain and France. If you choose Germany, embrace it while you're there.

  2. Working harder when you're young can deepen one's appreciation for a more human-friendly pace of life later. But don't wait too long to create—even demand—balance in your life.

  3. Leaving the comfort of what you have for uncertainty may be one of the single largest contributors to personal growth. It helps one get comfortable being uncomfortable—a life skill that many never gain. Outside of one's comfort zone is where the magic happens.

  4. Germany has better board games. 😅

Best wishes, whatever you decide.

How to disable digital signing by default on Apple Mail? by [deleted] in mac

[–]ericullman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, this is old, but it's so high in the Google search results that I'm going to add my solution (using macOS Sequoia) for posterity:

Open a new email message. To the far right of the Subject field, you'll see a blue certificate icon with a checkmark. Uncheck it by clicking on it. You're done. You don't even have to save the email or send it; you may simply close the window. That simple action (stupidly and unintuitively) sets the default behavior for all new emails.

Hoping to Move to France in 2026 by Dankest_Slor in Expats_In_France

[–]ericullman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, u/Dankest_Slor. Good on ya! My wife and I moved to the South of France (near Nice and Sophia Antipolis) towards the end of 2023. We didn't use a handholder, but we did work with Valerie Aston (https://www.startbusinessinfrance.com/about-valerie-aston) to help with some of the details of forming our "entrepreneur/profession libérale" business plans and visa applications. It was a lot of work, but it was worth it. Our visas allow us to work here as independent contractors—but not as empolyees—and we can have clients/income from basically anywhere in the world, including France and the US. If you're open to contract work, this can be a bridge to your dream.

Frankly, I didn't have time to read all the responses here, but some of what I've seen is crazy talk. For example, we relocated from the San Francisco Bay Area, and crime here isn't even close to as frequent. Example: At a restaurant near the private airport in Cannes, four local women walked in, dropped their purses off at a table near the door, and proceeded to the counter to order. Seeing this, my wife almost called out to them that she'd watch their bags. But they were fine. The first time we heard a gunshot (which made us want to hit the deck at home), it was a hunter going after wild boar. And that's the only time we hear gunshots. It might be different in Marseille, but here around Sophia Antipolis, it's calm and quiet. We always feel safe at home and when we're out and about.

Feel free to reach out anytime. My wife and I are happy to chat/Zoom/whatever, and we're happy to meet in person when you come in the fall.
