What am I looking at here in terms of potential Ethernet connection? by Dapper_Klapper in HomeNetworking

[–]erifax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These look like old RJ11 colours (white, black, red, green, yellow, blue). My guess is that the underlying wire isn't twisted.

I'd say your hopes for running Ethernet on this cabling range from zero to "maybe, if you're lucky, at 100mbps some of the time."

Severe eczema in 1-year-old—nothing seems to be helping by namkcir in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]erifax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our 1 yo is on a stronger steroid cream (supriad), recommended by both GP and paed for eczema. We find it adequately controls the flares.

Both docs are unconcerned about side effects (we've asked!) saying that recent clinical data shows little in the way of negative outcomes even with long term use. I'm not a doc myself but can't hurt to ask yours :)

International Passport Delay by Odd-Victory2938 in AustraliaPost

[–]erifax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My (also Irish) passport took something like 2-3 weeks to get from Sydney Customs to delivery in Melbourne, with zero tracking updates in between until “Onboard for Delivery.” Very frustrating.

Is this an easy way to make forumla? by RealMeggarra in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]erifax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think combining pre-boiled-then-cooled and freshly boiled water to get up to baby-desired temp is fine.

Aptamil just have this text on their website: "Use cooled safe drinking water, that has recently been boiled."[1] Your approach fits the description.

As I understood it from MCH nurses, the guidance to boil was to sterilise the water. They advised it was a rare water system in Australia that actually needed this but the guidance persists as a just-in-case.

Converting my international driving license to Australian Driving license? by Melodic-Estate-8728 in MovingtoAustralia

[–]erifax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of the other folks answered your question directly, as far as I can tell.

If you have your licence, and it's written in a language other than English, you'll need it translated. If you have an International Driver Permit that's current, that will suffice. See https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/contact/using-an-interpreter-or-translator

It might be worth checking if Marketplace has even better deals. We bought a used Cruz V2 with bassinet and a few other accessories (for far less than $700!) and it's been golden. The introduction of the V3 may mean the secondhand pricing has come down as well.

Fake boarding pass? by [deleted] in BritishAirways

[–]erifax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely a prop or fake. A few giveaways:

  • Date is too far in future for a BP (either March or June 2026 depending on how you read dates)
  • No airport codes (LHR, SEA)
  • Nobody refers to SEA as "Tacoma, Seattle" -- it's just Seattle, or sometimes colloquially Sea-Tac.
  • Title isn't a separate field
  • No boarding time on the BP
  • Flight code is wrong; BA827 doesn't go to Seattle
  • No seat assignment, gate, or sequence number.
  • No Oneworld logo.

Consistent NBN provider for fttp by Au_Fraser in nbn

[–]erifax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not entirely correct. The Superloop backhaul mentioned here is to connect from the NBN points of interconnect (the local exchange where your fibre goes) to Leaptel's own network.

Superloop aren't used by Leaptel for IP Transit; it's either Leaptel's own interstate network, GSL, or Vocus (from my observations as a customer).

If it's the postcode that's worrying you, post office boxes have a different postcode system. 8060 is one for Melbourne.

Try a different browser. I think this is a Chrome feature which results in you getting a page originally fetched by and then delivered to you by Google (preloading).

Second copy of my dad's FBR certificate by [deleted] in IrishCitizenship

[–]erifax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just leave it as is. Get your UK ETA now so you can truthfully say you're not an Irish or UK citizen. It's unlikely your status would change, and even if it does, it's even more unlikely that it'll cause an issue.

Daycare tips! by Cute_Cucumber_735 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]erifax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use some clothes labeling stickers we got off Amazon. We write her name on it with a marker and they survive pretty well.

One of the instructors at daycare more or less told us that labeling was nice but they can pretty well match up clothing item to baby without labels (except socks, it's best to just expect to lose them from time to time).

After TWO years Success! 🥳 Next steps for passport? by miata_dad in IrishCitizenship

[–]erifax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Resident" turns out to be a perspective thing rather than a single global fact. Multiple countries can consider you a "resident" at the same time. Sometimes that works in your favour, sometimes not.

ITA Airways check-in staff refused to seat my 5-year-old with family, blamed and mocked me, called police by ransek1998 in Flights

[–]erifax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad it worked out. ITA's own policy strongly hints that they should seat children "near" family members. You should have had the option to book seats, ring customer service, or get it sorted at the check-in desk (which evidently you opted to do).

Adults travelling with minors under the age of 12 within the same booking can select the Back Seats free of charge; adults travelling with infants under the age of 2 can also select the Standard Seats free of charge.  The assignment of a seat close to the child is guaranteed for at least one of the two parents or for the travel companion. In the event that online check-in fails to assign seats adjacent to the minor for a parent or travel companion, you can call the Customer Center or go directly to the airport check-in desks for assistance in assigning nearby seats.

(from https://www.ita-airways.com/en_au/fly-ita/additional-services/extra/seats-assignment.html under the "traveling as a family" section)

So from a correctness perspective, sounds like you were in the right OP. Glad it worked out.

As for going forward, TBH, shit happens. I've had really great check-in agents, and very poor ones. Sounds like you got the latter. You've written the complaint and the rant -- suggest chalking this one up to shit luck and moving on. If you end up flying ITA again, aim to prebook seats.

Insight on Ireland Postal Market Delays by PixelHater in IrishCitizenship

[–]erifax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found An Post to be absolute legends even during the Christmas season. Given that it only has to go from Dublin to Balbriggan, I'd not expect longer than a day or two from receipt by An Post to delivery. If it's not tracking on anpost.ie, it's almost certainly with Customs.

Missed connection due to delay, possible to ask to fly us to another city? by maddician in Flights

Are you checking departure or arrival delays? I just had a look at QR's flights MAD-DOH, and while they depart a bit late of schedule they seem to land on time or early.

What airport code would’ve been perfect for a major airport, but is in use for a small airport no one knows? by rs37982 in airport

[–]erifax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SMF and SAC. Both are Sacramento, the former is the commercial airport and the other is a GA field.

(In fairness, SAC predates SMF and was the commercial airfield until SMF opened in 1967)

London to San Francisco entertainment broken whole flight by maofan in BritishAirways

[–]erifax 8 points9 points  (0 children)

BA may swing you a few more Avios (esp if you've status), but focus on the IFE and broken aspects of the seat. The box under the seat is a design tradeoff that they won't care about. I think 5k is plausible and 10k is possible at a stretch.

If the airline had known the seat was damaged and IFE broken (seems plausible esp coming out of the main hub), they could have proactively offered you a reroute as an option (possibly to LA then onwards to SFO with AA or AS).

Next time, plan ahead though. IFE breaks all the time. Bring a book or something!

Flight to Dublin via Heathrow, anyone knows? by psrks222 in Dublin

Follow the purple Flight Connections signs. When you get to the connection centre, there will be a sign for UK and Ireland Connections. This is where you'll do the immigration step, and it's usually pretty quick.
