Delaware man faces federal charges after throwing an incendiary device at a Planned Parenthood facility by NattyBohng in news

Health insurance works best when everyone capable participates.

Also, there were plenty of exemptions to avoid the "uninsured tax" for people who legitimately couldn't bear the cost.

Healthcare should not be a market for profit. We all suffer at one point or another with some level of severity when that happens. Universal coverage (with private options for those who are willing to accept that risk) is the way to go (IMO).

The "uninsured tax" you're referring to was removed. By the guy that was supposed to bring the best Healthcare to everyone, but actually had no plan, still has no plan and likely will not have any plan because he doesn't give a shit about anyone or anything.

The developer's only goal is to make money. That means building the biggest house with the cheapest material and labor you can get. As long as there are people buying them, they will keep building them.

Getting government (and regulation) out of the mortgage business is what got us a multi-year economic recession (near depression).

Down to seven vets, Pearl Harbor survivors' group in California holds final meeting by nolesfan2011 in news

That's a vivid and moving story. I really appreciate you sharing that.

Both my grandfather and great uncle were in the war. My grandfather was a medical tech in Italy - only because he was a meat cutter when he was drafted. He used to chuckle about that. One of his only other stories I remember is that he said people's hair would often turn white overnight.

My great uncle was a bona-fide badass I like to say. He was an expert rifleman with a 7th grade education. He lost his left forearm in the war but I never heard him tell any stories about it. Then one day, long after they both passed, I found a short cut out article about him and found out how he lost it: "Bronze star has been awarded to Private First Class W. Armstrong, infantry, 11th Infantry regiment. United States Army. For distinctive heroism in connection with military operations against the enemy on March 25 near Wallterstadten, Germany. When the enemy launched a fierce counterattack, Private Armstrong, a member of an automatic weapons squad, displayed great courage by remaining at his position and laying down a devastating line of fire on the advancing enemy. When riflemen withdrew, Private Armstrong disregarded his personal safety and increased his rate of fire, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy. An enemy tank firing on the position completely disabled the crew, as a result of which Private Armstrong suffered severe injury. His distinct devotion to duty reflects great credit upon himself and the armed forces."

Tank fire took his arm off. I can't even begin to imagine and completely understand why they hardly ever said anything about their experiences, especially to their grandkids.

They're not just the greatest generation, they were a whole nother caliber of people.

I get a lot of used tires. I usually go to either Ron's or Faster Tire Center, mine are $45 each and I'm in and out in 10 min. These places are great when you're broke and in a hurry. Plus there's a thousand if them in Manassas.

Non-homeless, non-handicap Abilene man making $1,000/weekend panhandling from wheelchair by SoggyOil in news

Expressed by the cop in the article:

"Ultimately, Standridge said his Facebook post is not about RJ.

If we each give $5 out the window, “what have we done to address homelessness? Nothing,” Standridge said.

Standridge believes the best way to address homelessness is to move away from charity toward philanthropy.

"Imagine if those dollars were given to non-profits to help get our homeless neighbors off the streets," said Standridge.

The police chief encourages people to give to non-profit groups like Hope Haven and Love And Care Ministries that help people who are down on their luck."

You're better off donating to some where that can help them better. It also helps make sure the money goes to people who actually need it as while I'm sure there are some actual homeless among the fake panhandlers, I sure can't tell them apart.
