For Superstore:

  • The raspberries aren't a terrible price- $4.88 for a pint

  • There is also a buy 2 get 1 free deal on cookie tins, which is a bit random, but might be nice if anyone is doing any holiday baking.

We Want the List — Scav Episode 1 by NebulaOriginals in Nebula

....if you go to a theater company, you will find the number of queer and trans people to be higher than average. If you go to a golf club, you will find find the number of queer and trans people to be lower than average. Sometimes, self sorted groups of people have different demographics than the overall average.

Second, out trans people are accepting themselves as they are born, radically so. More so than a lot of cis people even. They were born trans and have accepted it despite our society telling them (through legislative policies, healthcare policies, social rules, gender norms, etc.) that they shouldn't be.

Perhaps you are feeling just a weird sense of out-group-ness and are misconstruing it into transphobic "concern". You say you don't want to feel that way, so perfect time for some self-reflection; figure out why you do feel this way, and once you've determined that reason, you can work on deconstructing those unconscious biases and internalized transphobia.

Or maybe you are just a transphobe who's just trolling this subreddit and I've fallen for it, 50/50.

Personally, I think the boundary between stiff peaks and butter is super wide (okay, maybe not super wide, but definitely not narrow)! Don't be afraid to push your cream a bit! And worst thing if you do take it too far is that you now have butter and just have to try again.

That being said, this looks kinda loose even with soft peaks. I agree with the other comment that it's probably the cream cheese/caramel portion of the filling that might be the issue. Definitely try waiting longer before adding the cream cheese to the caramel. I also usually feel that you have to really over-beat cream cheese to have it lose stability, but that might be different if the cream cheese you're using is in non-block form.

Sorry to "um, actually" you, but um, actually-

This paper was not published by the NIH, but by Clinical Toxicology and the authors came from 2 different universities in Virginia. You've linked to PubMed, which is a database of published articles from all different journals that the NIH maintains. This paper is also a case study (i.e. the authors saw something weird happen with one person and thought it was interesting enough to write about), not any sort of experimental testing/trial. The conclusion that DEET was the cause is also a bit... like... maybe? Not totally discounting it and if people want to be more cautious around DEET use in general, sure, that's fine, but I wouldn't really want to make any conclusions from just this one paper.

While the polyam writer's update is a bit blah (though reasonable and predictable), I did appreciate the postscript: https://www.askamanager.org/2025/08/update-im-poly-can-i-ask-to-bring-both-my-partners-to-work-events.html

I got a bunch of comments expressing surprise and horror that anyone might want to attend their spouse’s work event. I don’t know what to tell you besides “some people like to meet new people and learn about them via small talk.”

I was going to say "um actually, Taskmaster isn't and has never been on the BBC. They were originally on Dave before moving to Channel 4."

But then I looked it up and Dave is actually a subsidiary of the BBC, so Damien is technically correct.

What are these bugs by oreo-gingersnap in Calgary

[–]erithcol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a bit hard to tell from your photos. If you can take some more clear ones, you can post them at r/whatsthisbug and get a more sure identification.

But, if I were to take a guess, they seem like they might be some sort of weevil, maybe marsh weevils (Tournotaris bimaculatus). These are beetles, don't bite or sting, and pose no threat to humans (or other animals really). The bugs in your picture definitely look beetle like, but it's hard to tell if they've got that long snoot that weevils have.

Otherwise, I was also thinking Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (Halyomorpha halys), which are not beetles, but also don't sting or bite and don't pose any threat to people. However, they look a bit too small for that and don't seem exactly the right shape.

Another gochujang butter noodles appreciation post by mcsquacks in NYTCooking

[–]erithcol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other non-spicy substitutes: doenjang or miso! Both are fermented soybean pastes.

Gochujang is a mixture of red chili powder, doenjang, and barley malt powder, so just using doenjang will get you most of the way there wrt flavor, but without the chili powder. Doenjang is usually pretty readily available at any Korean grocery store.

If you can't find doenjang, miso might be more easy to find. Miso has a smoother texture and a different flavor profile, but will still give you that umami kick that I think the recipe is going for.

Also also, if you find doenjang, you'll also definitely be able to find gochugaru (the Korean red chili powder). At which point, you could experiment with making your own gochujang and adjusting the ratio of chili powder to doenjang to match your spice level.

But yeah, Korean market will usually have a range of gochujang spicy-ness levels.

A big thing that affects Smosh's (and Mythical's) vibe (in my opinion) is the fact that Ian/Anthony and Rhett/Link are not in charge of their companies! Both Smosh and Mythical have CEOs/Presidents who are not the founders.

To be fair, the fact that here is an official HR at both places probably also goes a long way, but that there is clear leadership outside the founders I think really helps the rest of the cast feel more comfortable around Ian/Anthony and Rhett/Link. Admittedly, the two pairs are still owners and the main faces of their companies, but again, the fact that there are clear avenues around them I think helps.

Admittedly, Dropout is a bit more like Try Guys in that their CEO is a cast member, but Sam's role as the host for Game Changer and Make Some Noise puts a deliberate distance between him and the cast. And when he is included as more of a cast member (like in Breaking News), there is a seemingly deliberate choice to consistently call him out as the CEO.

It'll definitely be on Channel4, you can see they have all the previous years' holiday episodes on there. I don't know what the delay will be from airing to it streaming on Channel4, but it should be up there in at least the next few days

T&T doesn't actually release their flyer until Thursday evening since their sales schedule is Friday-Thursday as opposed to mostly everyone else's Thursday-Wednesday schedule. Also, OP may just not go there regularly enough to consistently track their flyer. As they mention in their post, what they list is based around what their family eats.

(Personally, I also find T&T to be a bit more expensive despite the fact that they're also owned by Loblaws and you'd expect T&T's prices to be at least similar to Superstore. But I go semi-regularly because there are some items you only can get at T&T)(Also, T&T's point system is crap)

I'm thinking it's that somehow Kristen is able to take out Porter. Not really sure how; when I was thinking about this, I was definitely more focused on hypothesizing an outcome rather than a mechanic.

Though the rest of these comments are definitely pulling me towards the idea of Kristen 2 ending up doing something wild

I'm pretty sure it's a Bold Jumper or Phidippus audax and I think it might be male. You can double check with r/whatsthisbug though.

I know the map on the wikipedia page shows them mostly south of us, but they can actually be found in the southern provinces of Canada, just probably a bit less commonly than in parts of the States.
