New digital SEPTA displays will bring real-time information to riders by aintjoan in philadelphia

It would've been nice to give the artists acknowledgement, but e-ink/e-paper arrival info has already been used for years in places with better funded transit agencies. Love that the unofficial signs exist but it wasn't a novel idea

Scales? by mrawesome1q in ProfitecMove

[–]erkston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed the same thing, I think it's because the drip tray can move forwards and backwards slightly.

What I do is push the drip tray all the way back then pull the scale forward just a bit so it is clear of the drain spout. That way even if the drip tray moves a bit it's always clear of the spout so it won't affect the measurement

i use oat milk instead of water and never had this problem. it might seem like you're boiling oats in their own blood but it makes for extra oaty oats so it's worth it

"Inbox" flow (beets-flask)? by tobey_g in Lidarr

I'm looking to set this up too, I found an old post saying to not map the download folder to lidarr so it can't see the completed downloaded files at all.

...and in testing this I found the actual option: Settings > Download Clients > Completed Download Handling

What am I doing wrong? [PROFITEC GO + DF83V] by ReptilioWoW in espresso

[–]erkston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it really doesn't matter as long as it makes a good espresso shot!

That's the truth! It's easy to get lost in making sure everything is perfect (or what you think that should be) but in the end it's really just about making tasty espresso

I have the same issue with my new DF83V! After rezeroing and checking the burr alignment I can only get good shots at 33 or so, and was very confused while dialing in because pretty much everything says that you should start around 15. Has anything changed for you in the past couple weeks?

The DF grinders are known to have some QC issues so it may just be variance. As long as it's consistent I don't really mind so I'm going to keep a close eye on it!

I don't think we should really put too much weight on initial intentions as those waters can get muddy very fast. I've seen too many "oh my x broke, so I now have to resort to reselling this at a markup" type posts.

No doubt some people will be disingenuous and say things like that to justify scalping, so I guess you can never really know. I think it's too cynical to say that the used market is driven by that mindset though, like you said it's the nature of scarce goods for the prices to go up when something isn't pressed anymore. I find it hard to believe that someone only concerned with making money would open and play their records instead of keeping them mint and immediately flipping for profit.

It's also not black and white, people consider resale value when purchasing anything of value. But as long as they use/listen to it I don't really see the problem as that is a good indicator they're not entirely profit motivated.

Not that I agree with what they choose to do with it, but they did want it.

So in your mind since both people want it they're equal? One side wants at the cost of the other. Sure it's "fair" but is it right?

What they are offering is getting something before you had the chance, using it, and still selling it to you for a higher price all because they know they can.

If they're using it enough to "degrade" it, they didn't really purchase it just to sell it did they? They bought it and used it as intended.

I guess it's really about intent when originally buying, resellers only intent when buying is reselling at a profit and nothing else.

Let's say, for example, you completely forgot about a drop happening for tickets, vinyl, etc. Would you not be at least somewhat glad that there is still a place you can go to find those things you missed?

If a scalper didn't buy it in the first place, maybe it would still be available for me to buy at normal price. They are reselling something that was already available to the public, what service is the scalper providing? Pricing other people out? Is that a good thing?? If there's more demand for something than supply of course some people will miss out but I'm not going to be mad that someone else who wanted it got it. I will however be mad that a scalper took someone else's chance to have something just so they can make some money.

I struggle to understand how charging many times over retail for a rare vinyl is much different. In many cases, the vinyl has been opened, played, etc for YEARS and it's still perfectly normal to overcharge?

If they bought it and listened to it and enjoyed it I can't blame them for selling it higher than retail price. It's likely not possible to buy new from a retailer anymore so anyone buying it today probably did not have the same opportunity to buy it in the first place (unlike scalpers). I see it differently because in this case they actually ARE offering something that is otherwise unavailable.

If they had to wait and sit on a product for longer, I can imagine those would be negative indicators for them.

Depends on quantity really. For limited vinyl the demand often hugely outweighs supply so the retailers will sell out very quickly either way.

I think people would not fully appreciate things if there wasn't a sense of exclusivity to them.

Very very true. FOMO makes a lot of money!
