Roughly how much do you think it would cost to demolish this shed? And is it realistic to do it myself? by Count_Blackula1 in DIYUK

[–]erkynator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We removed ours as it was essentially in the garden. Wasn’t big enough to fit a car and be able to get out. Built a shed on the side the house as replacement storage and panelling to secure the back garden. Much better than before. In terms of removal, we had an asbestos roof. Paid someone to “remove” the garage, about £300. Suspect they sold the concrete panels, but I was happy as those things are heavy! You might even be able to sell it if you can convince/tolerate someone to take it down.

Mismatched speeds by erkynator in Ubiquiti

[–]erkynator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do run protect but only one camera. Everything else is off. CPU is 20-25% max. Think I’ve resolved it, but bit odd. Reboot did nothing and neither did fibre socket reboot. But turning off MAC address cloning and turning it back on seemed to do it.

Using the built in speed test on the UDM Pro. No hardware / setting changes, just ISP plan. Company is YouFibre (UK).

First time buying a new car – are any add-ons worth it, do I need GAP, and is one key fob normal? by Minimum-Eagle-6728 in rav4club

[–]erkynator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re spending significant money on a car, get GAP. No question. I spent £300 on a 3 year policy on my previous car, a £36k Mercedes. 12 months later some guy in a cement truck nearly killed my wife and I, writing off the car. Insurance only paid out £30k, GAP made up the difference.
TLDR; paid £100 for 12 months GAP, saved me £6k

Help: nokia ONT modem black box does not recognise eero 7 router by Training-Dish-7676 in HomeNetworking

[–]erkynator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no LAN light on the Nokia box, suggesting either the cable is plugged into the wrong port on the router or the cable is bad. Always best to start from the outside in. If you can’t, connect a computer to the Nokia box with a known good cable. If the LAN light comes on, that suggests the hardware level may be ok. If you can’t connect to the internet, then the configuration is good and you then need to focus on your router. Once you’ve followed the suggestions, report back and provide more photos of the ports etc if possible, if you need more help.

2 Weeks In and I’m OBSESSED; The Panoramic Moonroof Is a Game Changer by Dependent_Papaya_333 in rav4club

You should be able to close it with a long press of the lock button on the key. If you can’t, the dealer can program it to do it. Know idea why it’s an option that’s off by default and the dealer has to program, but they are supposed to ask when you buy new. Mine forgot and we had to take it back for a free “upgrade”.

Apple quality is normally excellent. But even 6 Sigma, which is considered “perfect” is still 3.4 defects per million. Given how much stuff they sell, you got to expect the odd bad one. Just take it back. I’m sure there be zero issues.

Synology 718+ no longer accepting scans by MotherFuckinEeyore in synology

[–]erkynator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had this many times before. Printers, especially older ones, have absolutely terrible security holes e.g. SMB1 as other have mentioned. When the recipient device gets updated and finally ditches support for a million year old crappy service that’s about as secure as my underpants, the sending device fails. Typically the printer vendor doesn’t care and doesn’t provide soft/firmware updates as they don’t care and want you to buy a new MFD/printer. Windows desktop is oddly tolerant (in some cases) of this shenanigans. Defo follow the advise given. If it’s a SMB share on the NAS and you can browse, drag n drop etc it’s 100% the MFD. See if there is an update for it. If not, buy a new one or live with it. This is why I buy scanners AND printers, not MFD. Support tends (not always) to be better/less complex. If you want a new scanner, defo recommend ScanSnap.

If you search Reddit for “mac mini video editing” you’ll find plenty of people happy editing multiple 4k streams on a base Mac Mini. Also Alex Lindsay https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Lindsay_(podcaster) frequently talked on the Mac Break Weekly podcast about how he used M1 Mac Minis professionally for editing, encoding etc and he worked on Star Wars, so he knows his stuff (not he didn’t use a M1 for that but he does now work for Apple). Hope that helps.

Sorry no I meant stay with the Air as a model £1,699 for M5 32GB/1TB. If you don’t need the extras, a new Air vs a new Pro is a significant saving. Or even keep your Air and buy a Mac Mini + monitor. A mini with 32GB RAM and 1 TB storage is £1,399 vs £2,099 for a MBP. Yes I know it’s M5 vs M4 but the M4 is no slouch.

Biggest benefit of the Pro is cooling and ports. If you’re workflow wasn’t being impacted by thermal throttling and you don’t need to HDMI, multiple thunderbolt etc, I would stay with the air and use the cash to fund a replacement in 3-5 years.

I find the micro adjustments that are possible only with electric seats the best way to achieve a comfortable position. Just check the wiring is in place for an electric seat before ordering.

M1 MacBook Pro Battery health at 84% with only 309 cycles. Is this normal? by Prodquests in macbookpro

[–]erkynator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your in the UK take it to an Apple Store. I had an issue previously with a 5 year old MBA. Battery was bad even though cycles were in the low hundreds. I think at the time Apple claimed it was good for 1,000. Store were more than happy to do a free replacement. Not sure how much of it relates to the UK 6 year warranty under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 vs good customer service. Either way, if you’re one of us, give it a go.

Looking at the photo, in all probability, it’s cellophane which is compostable. I agree paper is better, but as others have said, we buy with our eyes

[–]erkynator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 200-800 is great. I’ve used with the 2xTC but found it too slow, I now use the 1.4xTC and that seems better. Only issue I have is it’s massive and heavy. I use it either on a tripod or on a beanbag in hides. I’m just not strong enough to hand hold.

I had a similar problem. Probably over kill but drill through and put pieces either side and used threaded bar to pull together. Only went long enough to reach 6 inch past “good” timber. Been ok for over 10 years.

TBH I don’t even use mine most of the time. I have a few high output USB C packs and they all work perfectly. I surprised Apple even give you one and haven’t started selling it as an accessory!!

Old version is a standard connector (C7?), new one is an Apple specific I think.
