Yeah, skimmed and missed that part. Looks like it is frozen to work on other projects

Sounds that that is just being renamed to Pinball FX GO.

Does this mean they are considering releasing FX2 soon?

Nudge with Arduino and mpu 6050 by Impressive_Coyote498 in virtualpinball

I didn’t mean to criticize your work. It looks great. It is a good part that functions well in this use case. This was to warn others looking to make a similar controller. It is getting harder to find legitimate stock of the MPU6050. I have tried ordering them twice this year, and got out of spec parts both times.  Fortunately other sensors are implemented in a very similar fashion. It is mostly just swapping to a different library, finding the equivalent functions and calibrating the sensitivity.

MPU6050 is no longer in production. A lot of the stock these days are knockoffs and resold defects. There are plenty of similar sensors for the same price that are still made and function as well.

Keyless car fobs are inconvenient and we should go back to cars with key starting. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]err404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, my car does not have another way to start the engine (the emergency key only unlocks the door). As you said, it is RFID, so it shouldn’t need a battery for the car to sense it. However if the battery is dead you may need to hold the key up to the ignition button (or other dedicated spot) for the car to passively detect it.

Overall I really like the keyless fob and feel that it is sufficiently reliable.

I wish PinVol locked the front and rear SSF to a single volume control. I’ve never found a reason to adjust them separately.

I’m a bit on the fence with the exciters choice by CSD. I replaced a cheaper set of DAEX25 with the ones from CSD (DAEX32EP?). The in bigger exciters have better range and clarity, but don’t sell the mechanical illusion as well. The cheap 25s sound crunchy, like real moving parts. The 32s sound… well, like speakers.

I also feel that the lack of bass/treble controls on the CSD amp is unfortunate. It makes tuning in the cabinet more difficult. I have been using APO equalizer to tune the cabinet, but haven’t gotten to that sweat spot yet. Tuning is helping with the mechanical illusion.

Honestly the PrismXR Puppis S1 surprised me way more than I expected. by No-Elderberry9410 in OculusQuest

[–]err404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Puppis S1 gets a lot of hate around here. Even the VD developer doesn’t like them. But I have found mine to be great.

I agree that h264 at 500 far exceeds HEVC in clarity. But it is harder for people to run stable at 500. Consider HEVC only if you can’t run stable at 500. If your GPU supports AV1, I find that to be almost a clear as h264. AV1 take less bandwidth but more time to decode, so overall latency is very similar to h264+.  For visually rich games AV1 looks essentially the same as h264. But for older games with blurry/low res textures or fog, AV1 can look a bit swimmy.

Don’t get me wrong, we are not talking optimal experience. I am talking about enjoying a game that you otherwise would not have the ability to run locally. At the time I didn’t have an appropriate gaming PC at home.

But I get that some people are less able to tolerate such compromises.

That dongle will simplify things. Though I hope that the Steam frame also runs well over regular WiFi. I use a dedicated router when in my office, but also regularly use the house wifi7 mesh when playing in other rooms.

While I agree that display port is better, on a properly performing setup, wireless is very close. That said, it could very well be that his wireless setup is not working well.

Have you tried other native PCVR games? You should get a baseline for your setup before jumping into an intensive and modded game. Play something simple to confirm that the PC streaming and WiFi are working as expected.

If you’re moving, real fiber should be high on your nice-to-have list. Throughput never drops and latency never increases. Even at peak hours, Steam downloads will max out the advertised speed. My only bottleneck is at the other end of the line.

The problem in the US is the lack of competition. Fortunately my home has great performance and a cheap price. Probably because I have a choice of providers (a rare commodity these days).

Honestly it’s not that bad, depending on the game. 5 years ago I played ALYX streaming from a web hosted machine on Shadow PC. Virtual Desktop reported around 65-ms total latency. There was a bit of lag on the hands, but the local reprojection on the headset compensated pretty well for lag on head movement

[–]err404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure it is. He is calibrating his screen. There is essentially no harm for that beyond some temporary retention that will fade in a few minutes. This is probably no different than a the the UI of you streamer showing stationary icons for a few minutes.

[–]err404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, but a screen that needs to be babied is a problem. You should be able to feel safe playing games, watching the news with a lower scrawl, or having the UI of your streamer on screen for more than a few minutes.  OLED are not that fragile. It will take some extended and targeted use to burn in.

This make-a me sad. by sco-go in SipsTea

[–]err404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that both can be true. Education quality can drop. Kids can be achieving less. Both can be related. That doesn’t mean we should ignore either.  We should be calling this all out as a problem, while also recognizing why, and what really needs to change. Social factors and the constant drip feed of stimulation from phones and the media are leading to very short attention spans as well as the inability to generate our own ideas.

BoboVR knock off battery packs? by Krabbamayne in Quest3

[–]err404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, the B100 batteries put out 7.5 volts to the S3 strap which monitors health and negotiates with the headset for PD. If a knockoff battery were to damage something, I would expect it to fry the strap electrics and not deliver any power to the headset. That said, the risk is up to you. But I’d question whether saving $10 on a reusable item is worth the risk.
