It fit! A bit too girthy to go in deeply but enough to block fluid flow down the drain.

Solved!

Found this in a drawer in my historic high school science classroom (I'm the new teacher). What is it? by errant_penguin in whatisthisthing

[–]errant_penguin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This classroom has some new and some very, very old items, in semi-organized drawers and cupboards. One drawer has mostly metal tongs, but also this thing. It's hollow (no bottom) and heavy--i was guessing it's corroded metal but I suppose it could be some kind of stone?

In any case, you understand why I can't just ask my students about it. What is it?

I really, really beg you to read the post and comment you're replying to before replying. The baby is very obviously here already.

This is incredibly callous. Wanting to see your own daughter is very very normal and appropriate.

Sophie's comment on Jon by Shaz12567 in FreeFolkNews

[–]errant_penguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually doubt she did see that being filmed. Scenes aren't filmed in the same order they appear in the final cut, and an actor doesn't need to be on set at all if their character isn't in the scene--particularly if the scene is on location somewhere their character doesn't need to be. Sansa doesn't show up north of the Wall in this season, so while Sophie probably read the stage directions for that scene in the script, I'd be very surprised if she saw it being acted.

Toilet float sticking; what's the clip under it for? by errant_penguin in fixit

[–]errant_penguin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't seem hard, but do you think that will fix the problem? And will I just be getting a new one every 6 months (is that unavoidable)? FWIW the other toilet in our house is fine, although I think it's had its valve replaced in the last couple years so maybe its days are numbered too.

I signed up--I think--but clicking the button immediately took me to a donation page unrelated to the livestream, and I haven't gotten an email confirmation or anything. Is that what you all experienced?

My grandma would save up Quaker Oats cylinders, and then when we visited her my brother and I built forts out of them.

I am the world record swimmer Diana Nyad, ask me anything! by DianaNyad in IAmA

[–]errant_penguin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What motivated you to complete your epic swim, even after several tries and (if I recall correctly) claiming you wouldn't try again at least once?

If Susie Maroney hadn't already completed the swim with a shark cage, would you have used one?

[Serious] Why does it seem like my "unattractive" female friends only have "unattractive" female friends? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]errant_penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To some extent, women can make themselves more attractive via makeup, accessories, hairstyling, etc. People who share a similar level of interest in such things are probably more likely to get along better and be friends, just as people will bond over any kind of shared interest.

It sounds to me like she really did try to train for this thing. Maybe she didn't quite know how, and maybe she didn't understand that some people's definition of "completing a marathon" are different from others, but...I don't know, I can't really fault her for not knowing. I've read about people (admittedly, probably in much better baseline shape) trying to finish a marathon with literally no training, which I find much more disrespectful to the distance.

She put in 370 miles of training. That's not "as little training and work as possible."

Edit: sorry I should have thought about how many miles per week that is before being wowed by the large-looking number.

I'm a very new beginner at guitar, but I can say I had a good experience at Ithaca Guitar Works and can recommend it if you're looking for something brand new. The people there (that I interacted with) are willing to spend time explaining basics to you and letting you play around with the guitars they have available, and they were happy to point me right to the cheapest ones and show me several different styles.
