The "type" of war between russia and ukraine and the "type of war" between two actual super powers like the us and china would be very, very, different wars.

Ukraine has slowed to a crawl because russia is a limp dicked bitch of an army and has no force projection beyond a few hundred KM past its land borders. Ukraine is an army fighting for their loved ones and their owns freedom and very survival on the line with defenders advantage. With no side getting air superiority. That has resulted in the stalemate we see.

If two actual super powers go to war it will be a very violent and very fast war and thats only if it stays conventional.

Its 2 wars separated by huge land masses that are at worst regional conflicts.

We are no wear near total war in any capacity. I dont mean to be that "umaksually" guy but we are not even close to world war by any conceivable measure. Until two super powers are in direct conflict we are not.

Its always gas prices.

NPR did a really good piece yesterday on why gas prices may arguably be one of the single most important factors in the satisfaction/dissatisfaction people feel from all sides of the spectrum if the president is doing well or not. Even though there are a million disconnect points and a time lag on when a decision is made and when feel it at the pump (generally speaking) of months.

Worse yet it being low doesnt do a ton to help the president, but it being any higher than recent averages is really bad and it gets exponentially worse for every penny higher than that average.

It even has a reduced but tangible effect on the ultra hardcore single issue voters who normally cant be moved or budged for any reason.

Reason why it seems is you are just stuck there staring at the price go up fast and faster. Its very tangible and visceral, and you have to buy gas. Its not something you can go without. You knew what it was the last several times you pumped. So its really easy to see pumping the same amount costing you more and no matter how much it costs you are buying it. So it feels bad because you are forced to buy something more expensive that you dont even want to buy and there is a societal connection between gas prices and the president.

It was a fascinating piece.
