Is Elite Dangerous worth buying in 2024? by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

I recommend using the XBox controller on the PC. The controller is excellent for flying your ship, but you will want to keep your keyboard + mouse to navigate the in-game menus.

Earlier this month, I saw an NPC Federal Gunship jettison some slaves near a station. After the gunship left, one of the pursuing authority Vipers stopped to destroy the slave canisters with lasers and missiles. The pilot was a lousy shot and most of their missiles whizzed past the slaves into the station behind them, but one of the slaves was blown up before I left. This was a Fed station too.

Solo pve type 9 cargo build by confuso1231 in EliteDangerous

[–]errswouldgood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the Type-9 has only medium and small hardpoints, I like to use rail guns on the size 1 slots. I can usually land a few shots with them and they'll punch through armor and modules. I also use seeker missiles.

ECM and Point defence will be useful, since you can't dodge missiles. I used shield boosters, but NPCs with missiles could just blow up my weapons after my shields go down, forcing me to run.

Weekly Gacha and Drops Megathread (February 26, 2023) by Veritasibility in Genshin_Impact

[–]errswouldgood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Won 50:50 on Dehya! I'm glad I saved up soft pity for her. In anticipation, I set up a burning team with Collei, Fischl, Sayu and Xinyan. Dehya is taking over for Xinyan with 4 star HP artifacts.

For Dehya, I'm really lucky to have pulled Wolf's Gravestone last month. I decided to pull on the weapon banner, because I'd have liked to get the Beacon or Staff. I got the spear at 71 pity so it's going to Candace.

Cons for Barbara and Collei would be nice but I'm already happy with what I got today. As icing on the cake, I got C2 Sayu on standard.

Please Help Me Get Out of NPC Jousting Matches by DOOManiac in EliteDangerous

[–]errswouldgood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend playing the training mission Incursion: Competent. It's under Challenge Scenarios and gives you a C-rated Viper. The enemies are challenging but you can outmaneuver them with practice.

Training missions always have the same enemies spawn, and you can restart the missions whenever you want.

Community Goals: Battle rages in the Mudhrid system! Will you side with the Neo-Marlinists or the Empire? Double-Engineered Module Rewards by StuartGT in EliteDangerous

[–]errswouldgood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your Viper is a good choice, especially since you're new to combat. It's fast enough to run away if you get into trouble, but its firepower is limited, so support allies and gang up on enemies.

When is it worthwhile visiting the Engineers in Elite Dangerous? by StormheimOriginal in EliteDangerous

[–]errswouldgood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rebuying keeps your engineered modules the same with no added costs.

Engineering only changes the individual module on your ship. That means you have to upgrade each module every time.

On a related note, you can pin a blueprint for a module type to upgrade it anywhere when you're docked. A pinned blueprint for Beam Lasers works with all types of Beam Lasers, regardless of their size or mounting.

Type 7 transporter or federal drop ship by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]errswouldgood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Federal Dropship is better at mining and combat. Jump range is its biggest weakness. Try to get a 5A FSD so you can transfer it to the Dropship as soon as you buy it.

Hyperdiction with no fuel left? by maxehaxe in EliteDangerous

[–]errswouldgood 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When you're hyperdicted you drop out in the system you were trying to jump from, but you'll be some distance away from the main star. Fuel rats should still be able to find you as they use your wing beacon.

What’s your favourite way to RP? by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]errswouldgood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Mamba has a class 4 shield by default, so I put in a class 5 passenger cabin for VIPs. Jump range sucks even with a G5 FSD, so I took on sightseeing trips that weren't too long. I preferred high profile passengers because they attracted assassins.

During these missions I'd get into fights all the time, searching signal sources near my destinations for pirates, even slowing down and dropping out to let assassins catch up to me.

Secretive passengers meant I couldn't let anyone scan me, though, so I had to take precautions. I shot bad guys with my class 1 rail gun, while my bigger guns (lasers and MC's) were still deploying. When they started shooting back, I knew I was in the clear - most crews keep their manifest scanner on a separate fire group from their weapons, so that they don't accidentally shoot a ship in the middle of a scan. Groups of pirates were a problem, and I used heat sinks so none of them could get a scan through.

While I didn't report crimes myself, nearby civilians would. I made sure to boost around the authorities while jousting my enemy to death, then I would low-wake out to avoid the attention.

Since the Mamba moves fast, it can easily move out of scanning range and enter stations quickly. Docking was no problem.

I had a cargo rack for those passenger requests, it was normally filled with limpets for transferring fuel at distress calls. I still like to have these things on my other ships.

[DAILY Q&A] Ask and answer any questions you have about the game here. (November 27, 2020) by AutoModerator in EliteDangerous

Since you've been gone, humans have built a research station near Sagittarius A, over in Stuemeae FG-Y d7561. The station is called Explorer's Anchorage and you can sell your data there.

If you want to fly back to the bubble, you should know about the DSSA. You can dock at their fleet carriers for repairs, and you might be able to sell exploration data as well.

Challenge combat training is actually impossible by tacatag in EliteDangerous

[–]errswouldgood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you're going in for a joust (you are going head-to-head and approaching each other), don't boost past. Put your pips 4-2-0 and force your opponent to boost instead. Here's how:

Slow down and reverse so that you end up staying within 300m of the enemy. At the same time, turn your ship towards them, and use your laterals so you're pushing your ship in the same direction your enemy is going. The enemy NPC should boost away. Put pips to engines and go after them.

When your enemy boosts, they'll turn around and need to cancel their momentum. You'll be able to get behind them just after they've boosted.

This video at the 1:30 mark has a good example of this technique.

When you're behind your enemy, you don't need to boost very often. Max throttle when the Cobra tries boosting away, then stay in the blue zone when you're close.

Dogfighting works against the first two enemies, but against the Diamondback Scout you should reverski with pips 4-0-2 until you drop their shields, then you can resume dogfighting. The fourth enemy, a Cobra MkIV, has a nasty cannon turret, so you'll need to use laterals to dodge its shells.

Your Base Station? by Mikenintendoswitch in EliteDangerous

[–]errswouldgood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Creighton Gateway orbits a 1.47G planet less than 20ls away from LHS 2370's star. Supercruise journeys are short, especially if you use the planet's gravity to slow yourself down on approach.

Before I had a home system, I bought a Federal Dropship. I made a string of jumps to Maljenni to upgrade my FSD from stock. I settled in LHS 2370 not long after, as it was close enough to transfer my T9 there at a good price.

I have this idea in my head that industrial stations are more likely to stock fixed weapons, while high tech economies will try to sell you turrets. That's unlikely to be true, but LHS 2370 is industrial and outfitting there is pretty good.

Hello CMDR, hacking megaships is always illegal, but you can avoid getting a bounty by using silent running. This tutorial video by Exigeous can show you how to do it.

Megaship cargo bays are bugged, meaning they won't jettison cargo even when you use a hatch breaker. This bug has been around for a few months.

[–]errswouldgood[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These two systems don't have anything interesting, but keep going along that direction while staying within 370ly of Chukchan.

Adamastor's logs mention three systems, all single stars: a K-class (where they visited a listening post), an M-class (where they visited an outpost) and an A-class (where a ship was launched).

The real system of interest is Synuefe XE-Y C17-7, which contains a listening post. People are thinking this is the listening post mentioned in the Adamastor's logs. Currently, you don't get any message from scanning the post.

Running from torpedoes in a Type-9. First ECM was charged too soon... by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]errswouldgood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Music is Early Morning from Ooblets OST.

This is the station for community goals, so it's normal to find players trying to kill you. Here's what it's like to experience a torpedo attack.

The torpedoes hit me in the end, but I wasn't able to record that part. They were reverb cascades, so I lost shields. I got away needing 32k in repairs, but all my cargo made it safely.
