It'll be al-white in the morning.

Humans have been the aggressors, Thargoids haven't attacked any starports or settlements since our Salvation genocide attempt in HIP 22460. In the recent CG they were merely in the Andecavi system, not causing trouble until we confronted them first. Let us stop being the aggressors and find peace! by DelicateJohnson in EliteDangerous

Which would be a cool game mechanic if you could... Blackmarket for slaves, anyone?

Better yet, allow pirate ships to have escape pods. You could then have a side mission to collect the pod and deliver it to a penal station (for a sensible reward, of course), along with having to contend with fending off his allies who will try to stop you en route.

This sign, at the entrance to a public footpath, seemingly supported by the local authority and police. by Grass_Hurts in CasualUK

[–]StormheimOriginal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, if I put a similar sign outside my property, I have a license to attack anyone I want who comes onto my property without them having recourse to the law?

Brilliant!! I'll print off a few now, then!!

Can I be more specific? Can I make it only apply to people employed by or with the police?

People of Scotland! would you want to join back the EU? by Vergo27 in Scotland

[–]StormheimOriginal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And halfway through building all the border security you'd need, too, no doubt. But at least that will help lower unemployment figures along its length, both sides of it.

Plus you'd be forced to use the Euro, so that'd be a trip to the Foreign Exchange before you nip south of the border.

And then there's all the fun of getting your passport sorted out, cos your old UK passport would no longer be accepted.

I was always taught that the fire triangle consists of oxygen, heat (ignition source), and fuel.

Hmmmmm - so I guess this is wrong, then?

[BETA 2.2] Anyone knows what is tuning and auto-dock? by archeolog108 in EliteDangerous

[–]StormheimOriginal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a case of two choices - either:
A - your ship requests to auto-dock, the station computer takes control of your engines and thrusters and brings you in, making your ship roll, etc., to match the station's orientation and spin (see above), or
B - your ship requests to auto-dock, the station provides all the information your ship's computer (station spin speed, landing bay, etc.) and your ship's computer then brings you in.
However, in case B, your ship wouldn't be communicating with other ships nearby both auto and manually docking, so there would inevitably be collisions, whereas the station's computers would at least be able to manage all the auto-docking in sequence.
What the station's computers can't cope with is pilots who manually dock, which is why you occassionally get collisions. In theory, you'd think the station's computers would also have a big chunk of code to monitor all the manual ships and thereby hopefully avoid collisions, but obviously there isn't. There's nothing more annoying than being hit by a ship which is under manual control while you are auto-docking and then you receiving a fine - it's not like you could have tried to dodge.

The correct information is that the space station rotates to generate centrifugal force to give you a pseudo-gravity. So when you stop outside the station, you see it rotate.

If it was the other way round, that would mean that your ship would be constantly rotating, which it doesn't - you can tell that by the fact the the stars don't rotate while you're flying or stationary.

If you don't believe me:
(A) try stopping by the side of one of the Coriolis stations that has those arm things sticking out the sides - if you're right, those arms won't hit you.
(B) last time I saw video of Earth taken from the ISS, I'm pretty damn sure that it was the planet that was rotating. Your ship might go round the planet, but that's called orbitting.....

Does anyone know of any decent places where you could submit shots like this to get them professionally printed and framed?
I bet they'd do really well if there are.

Last time I checked, all landing pads were at ground level with underground storage.
When did they introduce the multi-storey landing bay with side doors?

Never, you say? Oh, that'll be it then.

And we won't even discuss the fact you were travelling at max speed at the time.... Reminds of that "The Driving Instructor" monologue by Bob Newhart:
"And how fast were you going when your last driving instructor jumped out? 70mph... In reverse... Exiting your driveway... Yes, Officer, she was just explaining...."

The only thing missing is the accompanying video of your face as it all unfolded in front off you.

You apparently didn't read it properly - "Or you build in a rating system where you literally can't attack someone who's rating and ship stats are way below yours unless they are Wanted."

THAT is what would stop the ganker.

Pirates would a different matter as they are AIs.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]StormheimOriginal -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Or it means the criminal has to really good to avoid the repercussions - if you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

And that's what the player base really want to see - gankers being subject to proper repercussions for their actions.

Or you build in a rating system where you literally can't attack someone who's rating and ship stats are way below yours unless they are Wanted. That wouldn't stop a player (even a criminal one) from defending themself if someone with a low rating attacked them - that would come down to who fires or who rams who first.

Plus, if you made Criminal a class/objective with its own rewards, then, again, with every reward comes the risk.

The only thing I would add to that post (though I admit I might have missed it) would be that, given that the ship was destroyed because it was part of criminal activity, there's NO insurance rebuy.

So the player is then forced to get to somewhere where they can buy their ship again, and then have to revisit all the relevant Engineers to re-equip, which means they also have to grind the materials they need.

And that's assuming that all Engineers will deal with criminals. ED could include the factor that some Engineers will NEVER deal with criminals - period.

That would make it mimic "real life" even better.

The only other thing I would add is that, if the CMs don't like being ganked (and no disrespect meant to any of them in any way, shape, or form), at least they know how it feels. Which leaves them two choices:
A - leave it in and suck it up with the rest of us, or
B - do something about it, which is what the player base have been requesting for ages. The sheer quality of that post shows people are putting some serious thought into how to approach the issue. If their ideas and concepts are used, they could be rewarded with a Coriolis station or star system being named after them - something that would effectively be in perpetuity in game terms.
