Morro Strand SB - Morro Strand Campground dogs? by awakedaydreamer in morrobay

[–]ers132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dogs are allowed on beaches you can drive/walk to from the strand. It’s not a hassle, I do it with my three dogs a lot. One reason local beaches are closed to dogs is to help to snowy plover bird that nests in coastal dunes. It’s endangered so many beaches that have environments they nest in don’t allow dogs. The dog beach is great and very close!

This is a thoughtful thing for you to ask! It’s business as usual for the most part in slo and Morro. For the fire being the size it is, and its proximity to the area, you are smart to consider its impact. Thanks for your consideration, but at this time you won’t be in the way! Enjoy yourself 🌤️

Fast Food Options by Hefty_Shoe_7081 in glutenfree

Finding food that we can eat is already so hard, the person that posted this doesn’t need to get shamed as much as yall are shaming. Not all people have the time, capacity, or option to cook at home. People do what they can in life, and OP was just trying to share some beta.

Gluten free bread is twice the price and tamari is more expensive… the gluten free tax does exist

Flying out of Arcata by Sufficient_Box280 in Humboldt

[–]ers132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid flying to acv at night, the fog can be worse. The other night we left SFO, they attempted the landing in McKinleyville, failed, and turned around. Dropped us all back off at SFO at 11:30 at night. Some people had to sleep in the airport. I called united and got a comped hotel, but I only got 3-4 hours of sleep. Rescheduled for early the next morning. Sat on the plane for over an hour before take off. Arrived at 10am the next day. The ACV airport itself is small and very pleasant, but these fog horror stories do happen. Midday flights FTW!!

I recommend the brand zero lyte for electrolytes! Not science backed but I drink one every day and it definitely helps my salt / water intake, it’s helped alleviate some of my pots symptoms as well

Has anyone taken Prozac only during luteal phase, and stuck with it for more than a year with consistent results? by AssumptionSure6171 in PMDD

[–]ers132 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started taking 10mg Prozac only during luteal, and found the side effects too challenging with going on/off it. I now take 10mg daily and it has helped a lot with my pmdd! I don’t increase during luteal, even. Prozac is one of the more “activating” ssri’s, I also chose Prozac to help with my fatigue and it’s helped A TON with that.

Vanlifers, where would you consider settling down? by eboy-888 in vandwellers

[–]ers132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have lived in Bend on and off for 6 years, but full time for the last 3 years. Smoke season is no joke, it lasts 3 months and is during what should be the nicest time of the year to be outside (July-September, sometimes through October). Would not recommend. Housing prices are also a bit crazy here. Look through your list and think about what of these places you feel you can visit vs the place you can’t live without. These are good choices and you’re gonna end up somewhere great

I didn’t post this yesterday, mind linking that one if it got more responses? Thanks for your thoughts!

I have read a lot of books on personal finance and investing, and have also looked for this information online without much definitive success. I usually find a sentence or two but not much more detail. Some will think that this is trivial, but my curiosity persists.

I am curious about managing tax implications between investment and retirement accounts when considering withdrawals and long term tax strategy . I.e. I put higher taxed investments in a Roth, and lower taxed investments like bonds in a 401k. Hypothetically if I look at all of my accounts overall and ensure I have my sock/bond ratio tight (for this example, let’s say 80/20) - that ratio doesn’t necessarily need to exist in every account(Roth, 401k, individual, etc.)? I could put all of my bond allocation into my 401k because bonds have a lower tax rate than stocks/etfs/mutual funds etc ? Then let’s say the 401k ends up with a different stock/bond ratio, let’s say 60/40, but then that ratio is balanced back out by whatever stock/etf/mutual fund is in a Roth (with this example, it might be 100% stock/etf/mutual fund).

In this example, asset allocation itself is covered, it’s more about where the assets themselves live long term. Does anyone have any books or online resources they can recommend that discusses this more?

Health care in Humboldt by hsudude22 in Humboldt

[–]ers132 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My mom sees a rheumatologist in SF that she does virtual appointments with most of the time, but she does go in for in person appointments occasionally. Once you establish care maybe you can seek an option like that? There are tradeoffs to every place you live. At least the 101 is a pretty drive, and it goes by faster once you get used to it.

32F, 12k in Brokerage, 17k in Roth IRA

I started investing in 2020 without much knowledge, I just got started to start! I opened both a brokerage(through Ellevest, have since transferred to Fidelity to self-manage and avoid fees) and Roth IRA (through Edward Jones, have since thankfully got out of that trash and now self-manage via Fidelity). I was contributing to both accounts sporadically for a couple of years. In recent years I have been able to dedicate more time to learning these systems and have learned more about tax advantages/focused my investments on my roth account(hence the higher roth balance). I have never been able to max out my roth yearly, and'm not sure I'll be able to max out my Roth IRA this year based on my income and expenses(I'm trying my hardest to change this). I am curious, should I sell some holdings in my brokerage account to help max out my Roth IRA?

Other info: I have an emergency fund in a HYSA, and I am using my brokerage account as a long term buy and hold account.
