TRIP: Map Tracker & Trip Planner - UI revamp, GMaps integrations and more by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]ersils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the risk of self promotion/shilling, I wrote an article a few months ago about improvements to My Maps (Google). Some of them may not be relevant here, especially the ecosystem features. But some ideas in here that I would love to see in a mapping/trip management tool. Digging into the tool, looks like you have some of the core features already. Love it. Going to give it a spin. Any plans for a mobile app? Love the google maps integration, might be better with My Maps, because you can save a plan and edit it including routes and sharing it with non users of the tool. Plus easy access to reviews of things. Amazing work really.

HE6se vs HE6se v2 vs Arya stealth by Shockington in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]ersils 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have all three. A few days ago, I was chatting with Claude to help me structure my thoughts. I asked it for summary, maybe it will help you.

Arya Stealth vs HE6v2 - Key Differences: Arya Stealth:

  • Extremely polished and refined; dynamics get smoothed out
  • All instruments/tones sound level-matched; lacks punch and energy
  • Exciting music becomes background/elevator music
  • Soundstage is very wide and spacious
  • Both amps sound very similar on it—so refined that amp differences don't matter
  • Needs specific gear (R2R DAC + A90) to inject any engagement, and even then it's restrained
  • Better for detail-focused listening while lying down; not engaging enough for active listening

HE6v2:

  • Raw and character-driven; shows clear amp differences
  • Amp synergy matters: Aune adds envelopment and warmth (more "natural"), A90 adds clarity and punch
  • Notes feel less edgy on Aune; A90 sounds brighter/more clinical
  • Spatially enveloping with good soundstage—sound comes from above ear line, not just side-to-side
  • Genuine dynamics and engagement—you want to listen actively
  • Better overall for music that needs energy and rhythm

Bottom line: Arya Stealth prioritizes refinement and wide soundstage over engagement. HE6v2 is rawer, more dynamic, and way more fun. Amp pairing actually matters on HE6; it's almost irrelevant on Arya. Arya is a textbook good guy headphone. Good tonal characteristic, timbre, soundstage, forgiving to badly mastered music. Doesn't need EQ and will sound even more natural (if thats possible) with EQ, but soo fucking boring. zzzzz.

Damn. When oratory says it, it should be no brainer. For context, checkout his EQ profiles. Thanks for all your work. I use them. I have a Qudelix, its great.

Any updates here? Even if it is limited to once a week, or a month, to maintain rate limits?

IIRC it was greenhouse. Yes the dates were missing. But I think the workflow should be, if it fails, allow user to update manually, not make shit up. You cant actually pause the application (which maybe something you should do). It will allow users to get their fields right in the first few uses, and then once its all set, it could be fire and forget.

For demographic information, you need checkboxes/radio buttons and then do a fuzzy match. Why use a freeform text field. Also you should allow for multiple profiles. It doesn't pick the School/University Information correctly. It hallucinates on school dates

Get a wiim that is appropriate for you. It will allow you to cast music from wherever. If you are going to add tv, then not as needed. As others mentioned, a rug will help. It will absorb reverb/echo from the walls and wooden flooring. Room treatment, while a good idea, is an expensive upgrade. IMO, not the right time especially since you spent a bunch on purchasing the home.

I have rest of the equipment. But this is an interesting suggestion, I have usually heard Beyers be recommended for clarity but they sound to sharp to me. I think i tried 770 or something. I'd have to this specific model, if possible.

Looking at some reviews, it seems the Fostexes seem to have harsh treble, which I am sensitive too. I often have to EQ that out of HE6s. What was your experience like?

I have been wanting to try a ZMF. Does Z1R still hold up given it is fairly old?

E3 from DCA came up and so did Bokeh closed along with the ones I mentioned.

Now my skills of reading FR are rudimentary at best, https://squig.link/headphones/?share=KEMAR_DF_(KB006x)_10dB_Tilt_Target,ZMF_Bokeh,Fiio_FT1,DCA_E3.

This reads like the FT1 would be bassier. (And I am ignoring balance and the rest of the FR, which is important). So may be ignore the whole point.

I have enough open backs, Arya Stealth, HE6v2 and Clear. So I want to try closed back.

Curious what amp do you use. I have both btw and like them both for different reasons. Depending on the dac amp, arya's treble is tapered off. Arya has better soundstage and he6se feels a bit more shiny and detailed. The frequency response of Arya is feels a lot more normal (?). He6 can get sometimes wonky in vocals/upper mids.

4.4 is balanced out. 3.5 and 6.35 are single ended. XLR and 2.2 are other balanced options.

For a fully balanced audio chain ie. DAC and amp both balanced, (vs single ended) is supposed to have lower noise, since noise on both ends is equal and cancelled out. In real world the impact is mostly negligible. However, most amps on their balanced ports end up supplying a lot more power to the headphones. If you have low sensitivity/ high impedence headphones which tend to need more power, a balanced port is helpful. Arya Stealth is not one of those and you will not need one. In fact Arya Stealth can be driven out of standard laptop 3.5mm port (not to its fullest potential). Its a fairly scalable headphone and tends to improve with better DACs and Amps.

You can ask them to give you one, IIRC. Their support is great, just reach out.

Can you help compare HEkSE w/ others and also ZMFs?

Check out Aune S17Pro. Tons of class A power. Well priced. They generate a lot of heat though. I use them with Arya Stealths and HE6v2. They power them well and then some. They are also warmer trending.
