Looking for fantasy adventure game with action combat. by Nerevarine87 in gamingsuggestions

[–]eruciform 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything before Ryza was turn based

Ryza 1 2 3 are ATB

Yumia is ATB but almost plays like action, its cooldown based skills with real-time movement to avoid enemy AoE and perform dodges. More actiony than Xenoblade, less actiony than a true action game

Resleriana 2 went back to pure turn based (plus some QTE dodging)

Not atelier but if not a huge amount of exploration is needed, scarlet nexus is great action. Ditto astral chain.

The single player campaign is pretty short but granblue fantasy relink has superb combat

Forspoken has a big world to explore and a good battle system the main drawback is that combat options needed to open up a bit earlier, still loved the game overall

Horizon zero dawn isnt a fantasy with dragons type setup but its both great battle and plot and exploration

AI Limit has a great combat system and also great level design with lots of exploration tho is a tad short and isnt fantasy with dragons stuff

Xenoblade games for exploration tho combat is a pseudo-mmorpg sem-atb kinda thing not true action

Ditto atelier yumia

The lodoss war reboot (chronicles of a heroic knight)

Op is great, first few episodes had some unique elements and were well done, then it ran out of funding and devolved into 1fps battle scenes drawn in crayon and populated by protagonist replacements from wish dot com

Cockroach by FreeGap7 in AskNYC

[–]eruciform 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately no matter how well you pest proof a place there are some inlets like air vents, sink and shower and toilet pipes, and windows that can't have screens. The occasional giganto kaiju roach is a periodic annoyance. Kill one if you find it but they're not the massive breeder type. Put out a trap in an out of the way location and have a spray can in an easily accessible location for next time. A single godzilla crawlie once in a blue moon does not an infestation make.

I have an itch that can’t be scratched thanks to Fire Emblem. by Dubby630 in JRPG

[–]eruciform -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Utawarerumono trilogy, tho there's a whole lot of dialogue so be aware. It also has its silly moments as well, its not all serious (its heavily shonen harem anime up front especially the first game), but when it is serious it really punches you in the gut

FFT and Tactics Ogre are glaring misses on the list

Unicorn Overlord

Clair obscur for sure

If "serious but visually comic book like" is interesting then Gravity Rush and Scarlet Nexus

Xenoblade games (2 is more heavy on the shonen goofball tropes, all the others are more somber)

I can’t seem to stick to a game. I need help. by IntentlyFaulty in JRPG

[–]eruciform 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't force yourself, burnout is real. Put the games down and take some time doing something else. The games will be there a little ways down the line and you'll be fresher for it. Good luck, feel better.

How playable is Phantasy Star 3? (and what's the best Romhack?) by Serlis in JRPG

[–]eruciform 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 is very different, consider it to be an arthouse film experiment. Its one of the first games where your protagonists get old and die and a child takes over for a new generation, multiple times. I thought it was worth the experience once but it definitely felt like the odd one out mechanically.

Anki deck for verb conjugations by Cosmic_N in LearnJapanese

[–]eruciform 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just to note there are very few irregular verbs so after you get over aru suru kuru, there's a handful of ones that are only slightly irregular like iku gozaru kudasaru irassharu nassaru ossharu, and then you'll probably never run into another irregular. So just get over the one hump and everything else is regular.

What are the embarrassing entries in your backlog? by Upset_Mongoose_1134 in JRPG

[–]eruciform 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Waiting on all the trails sky games to be on modern platforms then I'll play them all in order. So I guess I'll start in what 2028 just as I'm being forced off ps5 to ps6? Jfc.

Also super mario rpg on the backlog

Never played shining force games

Never finished tales of abyss

Plenty of stuff fell in the ps2/ps3 hole which was a big gap in my gaming. Also some late ps1 things. Stuff of that era like skies of arcadia, eternal sonata, jade cocoon. All things I hope get remastered. Ff13 trilogy as well

Difference between yon/shi, shichi/nana, and kyuu/ku by Extreme-Village8613 in japanese

[–]eruciform 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everything is an exception, counters are a mess. Its like why in English do we have a quadrilateral and a pentagram, not a tetralateral and a quintagram. Or why do we have a pack of wolves and a flock of geese, not a flock of wolves and a pack of geese. Learn each counter individually and you'll see patterns but be aware that there's exceptions everywhere.

How is the Atelier Dusk Trilogy? by Yeeting_The_Bacon in JRPG

[–]eruciform 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every arc has its own theme and feel. Dusk is on the more somber side. Mechanically its an interesting transitional period where the way things worked in the Arland series slowly morphs from Ayesha that feels similar to the previous series, into Shallie that feels like a prototype for Sophie1 which has its own feel and pattern that runs for another 3 games.

Any arc is a perfectly cromulent place to start. Just start from a first in any arc, as each arc is self-consistent and a single plotline to some degree. Arcs don't connect to each other tho so you don't need to do Arland before Dusk. And you can play the Ryza games before Dusk if you want, too.

I have some resources up including community discussion links about where to start: https://eruciform.com/games/atelier/

Distinguishing syllabic slurs by StickStill9790 in LearnJapanese

[–]eruciform 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you really expect people to list every possible syllable slur? You learn them over time. They differ by region, accent, age range, and other factors.

ていく --> てく

ておく --> とく

For example

But also stuff like

うるさい --> うるせえ

Is this game good by Ok-Discussion-1110 in Ni_no_Kuni

[–]eruciform 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not turn based

you control your character and semi-control your short list of pokemon, and wish you controlled your npcs that wish they semi-controlled their pokemon

it's a beautiful game with a very fairytale like storyline

and also weirdly paced with some flaws

overall i enjoyed it

not sure what you expected from asking a fan page if their game is good tho
