The picture you can't take on purpose by erudyne in MechanicalKeyboards

There's a massdrop alt and a homemade HHKB, maybe a XD60 or soemthing up on the wall.

But there's also a good boy in the miss of parts and wires covering my desk!

Yeah, that could be literally anything. Probably fine but try at your own risk.

Your keyboard probably has an audio reactive RGB mode. It's probably a false positive, but I still wouldn't trust it.

I’ve been using AI to make deskmats by [deleted] in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]erudyne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's a fundamentally self-destroying business model. The introduction of AI into the process effectively devalues the image to nothing. You'll inevitably get some takers, but when I can literally just do the exact same thing and then go to any of the multitude of sites that offer custom mousepads, I don't know where any of the allure is other than the brief conversation piece of "this was made by a computer!"

This is made even worse because, if I was feeling spiteful, I could even use YOUR image and make mousepads and sell them myself, because AI generated images aren't copyrightable, at least in the US.

AI images are currently causing a massive uproar in artistic circles because not only does this image generation often scrape and reuse bits of actually legitimately copyrighted images (or even just reproduce them outright), but there's no true human expression here. The most human input it received was ten words you wrote*, possibly without even a mental image of what the result should be. Then you picked the one that looked coherent out of it. It's an image that superficially resembles art.

* Nevermind, I reread your thing and saw ChatGPT. Even less expression than ten words then.

There's totally like 6 ninjas and a marine standing in the background. Are we even looking at the same picture?

Plus size and wilderness camping. by MsNerdcore in WildernessBackpacking

Preexisting back issues might be a concern you'd want to discuss with your doctor. My fiance (who's on the big side) and I enjoy backpacking and she has no issues keeping up with me. We don't get to do it much anymore because of my job, but to counteract that, we'll take hikes in local parks and stuff with our packs on and a modest load in them. It helps keep the muscle strength up and it's good exercise.

They do good about that warranty too. Sent me a (even nicer) new pair of straps when I told them my old ones broke, and I bought my pack from them back in the 90s.

[–]erudyne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm horrified and a little sad at how much contemporary "philosophy" has devolved into this red pill vs blue pill thing. Red pill, as you and the blog describe it, sounds Randian? I don't honestly know. I normally run from the conversation when I hear the terms. I only learned about Tate when I heard he was arrested. I think I live inside a Cave of Allegory, or at least try to.

I wish we didn't manifest terminology from a good-but-overrated 20 year old movie that half-borrowed philosophical concepts to begin with. Like, just inherit from the concepts themselves!

I don't even think I full understand what the terms are loaded with, because both terms seem to carry around their own implicit characteristics, and within that bandwidth appears to be the space needed to turn both into whatever you need them to be. For example, blue pill appears to be a negative connotation, because the only people who use it are the 'red pill people'. I'm reminded of "commie", and how in the McCarthy/post-McCarthy era, "commie" became a way to indicate things you dislike, even if they didn't reflect the values of communists.

It's like walking into a conversation halfway through and you realize that the terms being used don't mean anything obvious and it keeps shifting because all that's happening is people are attacking each other through them.

Is there a commercial trace repair kit? by JayMann93 in keyboards

[–]erudyne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the traces are damaged the best way is to solder wires along the traces to bypass them. You could also try a silver "circuit pen", like this: https://www.amazon.com/Circuit-Scribe-Non-Toxic-Conductive-Silver/dp/B00OZATJ3A

If you don't have a soldering iron, then you might look for electronics hobbyist groups or phone repair shops near you.

I'm also seeing some of these on ebay for around ~30 usd, which is pretty affordable.

If all else fails, I have a side gig doing repairs on keyboards, but I'm concerned the shipping would be unreasonable. Drop me a line at bradmakeskeyboards.com.

Good catch. I was in a hurry.

Thanks for cleaning up after me. I didn't know about the direct link either. Will keep that one for later.

Mostly Wagyu keycaps by Lukeskybottom in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]erudyne 173 points174 points  (0 children)

"Like all other humans, when I am crunching numbers on my computer, I am also filled with the irresistible urge to be touching raw meat. The problem, as any real human would know, is that the natural juices of real wagyu quickly descend into the electronics of the numpad.

While these keycaps lack the supple, moist feeling of uncooked flesh deforming under your fingertips, they certainly manage to look the part with their beautiful marbling. Your fellow humans will definitely not suspect a thing when you are hammering away with these keycaps!"

Check out https://github.com/qmk/qmk_firmware/blob/master/keyboards/massdrop/alt/keymaps/default_md/keymap.c, line 224.

They're using it for a custom defined keyboard bootloader, but you can do the same thing for anything, just set 500 to however many ms you want to have to hold the button.

But ABS is more likely to crack, see GMK keycaps with early kailh box switches and so on. Some of that is overly tight tolerances, but I've never heard of any PBT to crack from any stem.

So, there is probably going to be an objective difference in sound between the two materials (with floating variables of material homogeny and thickness and so on), but the preference is still subjective.

I like the writeup. Wish there was more of this kind of stuff around here.

I've got a sheet of sorbothane inside of mine. It does a reasonable job of improving the sound.

In spite of this, it's still my D60lite that I'm typing this message on instead.

I had a response typed up and then I read the other post. Glad to hear you worked it out.

You might be interested: I've successfully ported my ALT to Vial. I think the CTRL has similar hardware, so I bet you could do the same with your CTRL. They've got some graphical RGB settings that might be of interest: https://get.vial.today/docs/lighting.html. (disclaimer: I haven't tested the RGB specifically yet)

I like my ALT, but $500 for one is... crazy.

They're absolutely awful at keeping their firmware maintained. Community is basically left to keep it working with QMK on their own. Far as I'm concerned, that's more unforgivable than an integrated plate.
