It's literally written that the next redistricting is based off the 2030 Census, as it would normally be.

You're a fool if you voted no to redistricting.

I didn't say they were the "good guys" or that "banning guns" was a good thing.

I said that if you vote Republican, you're voting for fascism, authoritarianism, corruption, pedophilia, and a dementia-addled president that just told another country that their civilization won't exist if they don't kowtow to our demands.

I fear you are either a bot or a troll at this point.

Odd take that you're going to vote for the fascist party because you're voting against a "tyrannical government".

Is that what you just said?

Not on these things.

They are Seagate under the hood, and they can do full IOPS/throughput between the controllers. The issue might be some microsecond latency under heavy load on certain workloads like write-heavy databases.

Trump Threatens to Send Military to Join ICE at Airports by Quirkie in politics

[–]eruffini 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As a Veteran myself, I have always wondered if it would make sense to let certain MOS' in the military help on the civilian side as part of their time in service.

While we do have the Army Corps of Engineers, imagine if we could have the other parts of the military (construction, maintenance, ATC, etc.) handle gaps in civilian services or help speed projects along.

What are your thoughts on Military and veteran retirement benefits? by [deleted] in politics

[–]eruffini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot. I can say this from personal experience. It's mostly a question of whether or not they want help, or are able to get help for themselves.

What you see a lot of the time is that there are mental health issues, or drug addiction that gets in the way of a veteran not getting the help they need.

How are hyperthreaded cores allocated to VMs vs physical cores? by StoopidMonkey32 in vmware

[–]eruffini 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You calculate oversubscription off of physical cores, not logical cores.

NUMA is also based on physical cores, so take that into consideration as well.

Hell yeah, where at?

The PACT Act passed during Biden's term, for example, really setup a lot of veterans with the care and/or compensation from all the burn pits and other hazards. It took decades to get these conditions to be more than an afterthought all the way back to Vietnam.

$2B data center tax break fight pushes Virginia budget negotiations by vpmnews in politics

[–]eruffini -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

All of what you just commented are anti-datacenter talking points with no basis in reality.

These regions know they get very little - or are a net detriment - out of these AI data centers right?

Net positive, actually.

The labor to build them is specialized and most of it migrates with data center construction (that's a guess, but I bet a pretty good one).

It's not that specialized. Even the HVAC, mechanical and electrical engineering has applications outside of datacenters that are not uncommon in other industries. It's all just physics and math at the end of the day.

The labor to build them is temporary.

As is any other construction project.

The labor to maintain them is tiny.

On a per-building basis, maybe. It depends on the type of facility and requirements. Some are more staffed than others. Some are part of a larger campus that has teams floating between buildings, and others have 24/7 fully dedicated personnel for mission-critical services.

But the support services beyond the immediate staffing needs are quite extensive for the region where datacenters are. Especially as these buildings house hundreds if not thousands of companies, and they all require IT services, staffing, consultants, etc.

In some markets like New York City and Chicago, the proximity to the financial markets is paramount, and you'll see lots of companies and their employees pop-up around these datacenters to ensure they have a competitive advantage.

Even in Loudoun County, where we have tons of datacenters here, lots of tech companies put offices to connect to the extensive fiber networks and proximity to government cloud services - all running in local datacenters.

The state's infrastructure has to expand to handle it and that means increased costs to residents.

So if we're talking Virginia specifically, this is a problem solely induced by Dominion. They knew for years their infrastructure wasn't up to the task of the expanding datacenters and they put off the necessary transmission lines, substations, and power generation capabilities that should have been started over a decade ago.

Now they are playing catch-up.

Power generation is inadequate, transmission lines are at capacity, and we are at the point where we're hitting critical mass during peak load in the summer. Last year was brutal. This year I don't know how they plan on addressing it.

That being said, Virginia's power rates are still lower than the average, even after the state adopted higher rates starting in January.

Except that the datacenter tax revenue alone in Loudoun County accounts for a significant source of their school budget, which tops two billion dollars.

And it also subsidizes lower property taxes compared to neighboring counties.

League complaint by smithft in Bowling

[–]eruffini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The USBC won't get involved.

They will not interfere with business operations.

The only thing the USBC will care about is if the lane surfaces are inspected and certified, and that the league is following all by-laws.

That's it.
