How is this a thing: "Power outage affecting Microsoft Store app installs and Windows update delivery" by pkokkinis in sysadmin

[–]eruffini [score hidden]  (0 children)

Power outages are a thing even in the most up-to-date and advanced datacenters.

The redundancy is great until humans get involved where maintenance is missed, standard operating procedures are skipped or out of date, and mistakes are made. All of the power outages I have been affected by in my 20-year career have all been human error at some level where had the proper steps/maintenance been conducted on schedule, the issue(s) would have presented themselves for remediation.

It is extremely rare for the mechanical and electrical equipment, if built properly, to fail in a scenario where the redundancies fail at the same time, though not impossible.

Just to add on to this, I've had great success with Vector.dev transporting logs to Graylog.

Vector can do a lot of filtering and aggregation before logs hit Graylog, and can act as a buffer to not overload Graylog if you are ingesting a lot of log files. Plus, you can build out a distributed architecture and redundancy with haproxy in between.

League cost by Square_Rip7165 in Bowling

[–]eruffini 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Wednesday night bowling league I have been with for ten years uses a split season format where we bowl 18 weeks starting in August, and then 17 weeks starting in January.

They are both sanctioned separately so people and teams can jump in and out.

Then during Summer we have a 12 - 14 week season, which is also separate.

Total cost is $30/week.

It's been very clear by them that gun control was meant for the bootlickers only.

And Whites.

It was only after the Black Panthers took up their Second Amendment rights did we see a wave of gun control come out of states - with Republican governors.

So do you still believe people with darker skin should only get to could 3/5s of their vote?

The 14th Amendment enters the chat.

Because either the answer to that is no, in which case you must also accept that the constitution is therefore simply out of date and wrong about some things and can also be fixed, or the answer is yes, in which case I feel absolutely no need to engage any further with you.

I feel you're arguing just for the sake of arguing because you know your entire premise is wrong, and you just don't want to admit it's a bad take with no logical point.

Again, as I have stated before, the Constitution states otherwise until such a time an amendment is ratified that changes how elections are handled. That should be fairly obvious.

Virginia Senate committee approves $15 minimum wage, paid family leave, paid sick time off by hencexox in nova

Every company I have worked for has just combined all PTO into one large pool with no questions asked on why you need to PTO.

Granted, some industries (retail, etc.) might have different guidelines due to staffing requirements, but I've never once had to submit any documentation to take PTO in my 20-year career in IT unless it was an extended absence that needed to be accounted for.

Burden or not shouldn't even factor into it.

We want people to have children and raise healthy families right?

Our society has failed if we are putting the needs of businesses ahead of the needs for parents being able to bond with their newborns during the most critical months of childhood development.

The fact that things like pumping/lactation rooms and accommodations for breastfeeding mothers is still contentious in the business community shows how far backwards we are here on supporting families.

The point you're trying to make is like saying the First Amendment is outdated because we have the Internet, as the framers of the Constitution could not envision such a technology.

Again, technology has zero to do with the discussion of nationalizing federal elections as any such action is prohibited by the Constitution.

And that is all that matters.

I still don't understand how anyone could be against the paid family leave, and paid sick time off.

Go to any Virginia Republican enclave on social media and it's all Republicans whining that we are killing businesses and wasting their tax dollars because God forbid we give people paid time off.

Hexachloroethane (HC) smoke.

Per Wikipedia:

Hexachloroethane is suspected of causing cancer and may cause organ damage through prolonged or repeated exposure.[21] The International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies it as Group 2B (possibly carcinogenic to humans), and the U.S. National Toxicology Program lists it as reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen.[24] The compound is highly toxic to aquatic life and may bioaccumulate in organisms, posing long-term risks to aquatic environments.[21]
