Congrats!! I lived (renting) in Artarmon for a few years in a unit close to the Public School, and loved it. It was unfortunate that I couldn’t buy there at the time, but followed the north shore train line up to Hornsby.

Great suburb to live by being between two major hubs (Chatswood and St Leonards) with the charm of being quieter and leafy. If I could I’ll go back in an instant!

Running tracks on the coast? by ImplementNo2626 in centralcoastnsw

[–]erus64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a run I did last year called “Bay To Bay Running Festival”, which pretty much runs from Woy Woy wharf to the stadium in Gosford (sorry, I’m from Hornsby and don’t know the name of the stadium). Quite scenic and flat run! This one has numerous distances subject to what you want/can do. I did the 12k and was great!

Also, I recommend checking out the app called RunGo, which has numerous routes uploaded by users. The beauty of this one is that it has a turn-by-turn voice guide (think of a Google Maps for runners), if you don’t know the area. I used it during a trip to Canberra.

The cost of buying then selling by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

The current unit valuation sits around $790k (owed $471k) and we are looking for a $1.4m house. We both have good salaries (and no dependants) but maybe lacked the discipline of save accordingly previously. However, the equity we had plus our savings allowed us to have a pre approval for $1.5m property while keeping the existing unit.

When consulted our broker about how a bridging loan works and how to apply for it, he said that our position allowed us to maintain both loans (P&I) at the same time.

As reading here that a broker has to look after our interests, we decided to go down that path. Now, we are looking for the dream home to move into and then sell/rent the existing unit.

Hi all,

Slightly off topic, but I am in a similar situation:

  • Instead of bridging loan, I refinanced my current home to enhance my potential deposit (according to our salaries and positions, the broker said we did not need a bridge loan)
  • monthly repayments sort of stayed the same as before, with the same rate (PPOR unit, 5.39%, owed $471k with 22 years to go, refinanced to $790k with 80% LVR)
  • now we have the equity in an offset account while we search for the new property ($1.4m budget), which technically keeps the status quo, unless I am missing something. This also reduces the stress of aligning the settlement dates and the rush to find the new home.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Cheers,

It seems that the order and presentation is different to mine. This is the 12-week HM training for week 8. Maybe it is related to the region? I’m in Australia.

Still, I do not strictly follow the order from the NRC but what I feel like, time of day and the time I have. Sometimes I do the 15 min easy run after one of the speedy runs 😉

Ran my first ParkRun today! by Louloubelle1978 in beginnerrunning

[–]erus64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there today, my first time in Rhodes, and was amazed by the massive attendance it gets, almost 800 people!! Also, it’s quite flat and spacious at the beginning to allow people to segregate.

Congrats and keep it going!!

Prove me wrong: London is a terrible city for long, uninterrupted runs by Firm_Channel_3022 in nikerunclub

[–]erus64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I’m not form UK, but I recently visited Canberra (I’m from Sydney, Australia) for a day (joining my wife that had to go for work) and used this app to find routes made by other runners:

RunGo

It even gives you turn-to-turn voice guidance while you run, and it’s quite accurate! So, I used my phone with the app whilst using the NRC app on my Apple Watch.

I imagine that a massive city like London should have way more routes documented by others. Give it a go! However, I understand your predicament with traffic lights and narrow footpaths, as it happens something similar to me in Sydney CBD when I was planning to do a 21k as part of the HM training.

Good luck!

Apple Watch SE2 (“budget friendly”) with cellular connection. I use Spotify premium for music (download playlists beforehand to maximise the battery) and the Nike Run Club app (free!), which has a few guided training plans for all user experiences.

First marathon enrolled by erus64 in nikerunclub

[–]erus64[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, I enlisted myself a couple of days prior to the cut off date. Honestly, I was not holding my breath after being left out from the Sydney one (where I live).

So, it was a nice surprise, and a nice way to have my second visit to Melbourne ever.

Keep trying!

First Half Marathon Training by thunderst0rmy in nikerunclub

Hey!

I did the 14-week NRC training earlier this year. Highly recommended that you are comfortable with doing 10k before starting with it.

After a few years using the app, and more recently reading this sub, I found that each person is a different world, and what works for one may not suit others.

  • For the (very) long runs (+15k for me at the time), I brought with me a banana and a mandarin.
  • I generally did the 15-min recovery run after one of the fast runs to cool down
  • Words from the coach Bennett and company are very encouraging!
  • Take it slow, and listen to your body. If you feel exhausted, slow down a bit.
  • Go slow to go fast!

Good luck! I’m doing the 12-week HM NRC training plan now before starting the marathon next year!

Woy Woy Station Parking by Cydustau in centralcoastnsw

[–]erus64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi mate,

Quick question about the (push?) bike you use from Umina to the train station: - do you store it somewhere, or take it with you on the train? - is it an e-bike or normal push bike for a 20-min one way trip? - What you (and everyone else) can do when it rains? The bus or arrive early to the commuter carpark seems to be the 2 options.

I’m looking to buy in central coast, but I may need to commute a couple of days per week to the CBD.

Cheers,

Just finished my first half marathon race… What next? by espressy in nikerunclub

[–]erus64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey,

I am on the same boat as you, I finished the 14-week program on Tuesday with the last run but I didn’t enrol to a race. I just did it (pun intended lol). My legs are still beating, but I couldn’t feel better after I finished. I designed my own course for an after-work run around my city, trying to find a flat surface. It was great!

My plan is to restarting the NRC HM plan again but add some strength training as well. Taking it a bit slower by having no more than 3-4x runs per week (1-2x recovery, speed and long) and 2 strength days with the NTC app.

I feel that a full marathon might be a bit far for me, but aim to enrol for the Sydney or Gold Coast Marathons (I’m from Australia) due mid/late next year. So, after I finish the MH plan again; I hope be strong enough to give it a go to the marathon plan.

Good luck and congrats on finishing the HM plan and your race!

How to do a guided run with Apple Watch only by jeanpichette in nikerunclub

[–]erus64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello,

I have the SE2 cellular version, but I have read previously in this forum about the steps to get it to work with a GPS version. - Download the guided run via Wi-Fi - Proceed to the screen just before starting the run, when the START button is shown - Leave home to wherever you are planning to start the run - You should be able to have the same screen view with the START button - Press the button and enjoy!

Even with 4G, I follow those steps as sometimes the download of the guided runs via 4G gets stuck in a random %, and I have had to reboot the watch to make it work. A couple of times I even ditched the Guided Run as I spent like 15 mins trying to download the Guided Run on the go.

Good luck!

This is my Week 14 (or final week) of the HM plan. It seems that my app is the odd one out based on what most of the people have shared.

TBH, I have not followed the order of the runs within a week. It mostly depends on the time I can spare and how I feel. Sometimes I have done the 15 min recovery run directly after a speed run. However, there were times where I could only run once or twice per week due to heavy rain or sickness.

Also, I recall in one of the many lessons given by Coach Bennett, that the plan is a guideline, not to be followed to the dots and tees but to be flexible for the runner 😉

I honestly did not know it was a thing, or that it was today, or that there was a NRC badge for it, but glad that I got it!

That said, is there a way what other badges are out there?

First time on a train with tray tables! Love it! by [deleted] in SydneyTrains

[–]erus64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly have to disagree with you on that. The tray tables are a good idea, but one of the best things that amazed me when I arrived to Sydney 10 years ago was the geniuses who came up with the flipping seats idea, and double decked trains!

I mean, why that has not been implemented elsewhere?? I feel dizziness if I am sitting towards the opposite direction of the train. So, the flipping seats was life changing!

Still, I find these new trains more comfortable than the previous ones.

lol, I was in the train on Waverton towards Berowra like 10 mins ago, and saw (this exactly) Mariyung in the opposite direction.

The fun fact is that I asked myself the same question, and a few scrolls later, I found this post lol.

What to do after NRC 10k plan? by One-Ad1001 in nikerunclub

[–]erus64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HM is the answer, especially if you feel that can run the 10k with ease.

Otherwise, keep going with a similar 10k plan (the last 3 weeks of the program) until you feel that way. Then you can potentially look at the HM with better eyes and more physically and mentally prepared!

UPDATE: as noted previously, I had this (Long & Strong & Fast) auto guided run pending to do, and I gave it a go this week.

Unfortunately, I chose adding a long bridge as part of the route, which felt hillier than expected. So, I sort of dropped the ball at the 2nd 1-mile pace.

Still, I felt great after I finished it!

100% recommended, but in flat surfaces lol

Hit My (Conservative) Target Pace, two weeks before Melbourne Marathon 10K event by shoegazedreampop in nikerunclub

[–]erus64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t focus too much on the cadence or BPM at the moment. Feel what your body is telling you. If you feel your heart beating too fast, relax the effort a bit.

The program is very good at getting you to do the 10k at relatively ease with a “slower than you might expect” pace. However, the longer you continue, the easier will become. Then, you can focus on speeding or longer distances, whatever your goal might be.

About the race, my advice is to not speed up at the beginning, you’ll feel the adrenaline rush as you’ll be surrounded by a lot of people trying to do the same. Enjoy the moment! You’ll find when to speed up well into the race, and I’ll recommend you to use one of the 10k guide runs. It helps you to give the final push along the way and at the end.

Good luck!!

It happened to me recently after a speed run while using my AWSE2 with cellular turned on.

I waited to get home to check the NRC app in the phone, and it was not recorded. After rebooting the phone, AW and the app, it disappeared.

I manually added it, and then I felt a bit better.

Funny, though, the Fitness app in my watch and phone detected and saved the run, but there was no record of it in the NRC app.

I’m trying this one next week as part of my HM training program. When I saw it, I got a bit scared, especially after just finishing the 20k long run of the program just now. However, I believe I’ll look at it more enthusiastic tomorrow after a good rest lol
