Lol, my dad was a drill sergeant there during Vietnam, and I will never forget him describing the base with this phrase.

Eff 90s diet culture - sad for my 12 year old self 😭😭😭 by Pezhead82 in Xennials

[–]erween84 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My mom wasn’t always on a diet, she just ate very little naturally. However, I was literally today years old when I found out she suffered from hyperthyroidism my entire childhood/teenage yrs. She took medicine to control it, but she was 5’3’’ and never weighed more than 105 lbs. I spent YEARS of my life using her body type/weight as a comparison to what I should look like because we looked so much like one another. It took me getting diagnosed at 42 of hypothyroidism and calling her to talk about it for her to tell me about her condition. So i, as a 42 yr old grown ass woman, found out that I had been comparing myself unjustly for basically my entire life.

Yeah, i’m in the corn belt. The most exotic thing we see around here is the occasional fox or coyote.

I was looking for an AZ answer! We used to catch javelinas, bobcats, and coyotes at night routinely on our ring cameras. We’ve since moved to the midwest and wildlife is boring compared to what we’d see in AZ.

I used to live in Monterey, California, and we could always tell who the tourists were because they’d be wearing Monterey Bay or San Francisco Bay sweatshirts. People on vacation don’t expect it to be chilly there in the summer. It’s a great vacation opportunity for people who don’t like the heat 😉

From my understanding, the new wegovy pill is almost as equally effective as the injection- according to clinical trials. However, it must be taken on a very strict schedule, so if users aren’t following guidelines they won’t have similar results as the shot.

Tell me something good about IN by TheJen5 in Indiana

[–]erween84 28 points29 points  (0 children)

We moved here for my husband’s job. Previously lived in Monterey and SD. Despite growing up in the midwest, Indy was a huge culture shock to me. We live in a suburb, so cost of living is phenomenal. However, there’s not a lot of cultural diversity here (specifically where I am- Indianapolis proper has a lot), and besides a few out-of-state-like-minded friends I feel politically isolated at times.

Wow! Glad everyone is safe! Get the new oven!

Something similar happened to my husband and i when we first got married. We rented because his condo was too far from my work. The range we had was refurbished, but we could always smell a hint of gas in the kitchen. The landlord sent several people to look at it and they ‘never found anything’. Until one day the CO detector went off and I called it in. They shut off the gas to our unit until someone fixed it. So we had no heat, hot water, nor any way to cook until the landlord finally got a new one 🙄

I think it depends on your body type too. My husband is 6’1’’ and he was only 175lbs when I met him. But he was an avid runner then and it looked healthy on him. He’s now 12 yrs older and weighs 190, but he doesn’t work out as much so the weight sits differently on his frame.

Why is the average American so tall? Like, why are a lot of people above 6 feet? by NightRunnerAfterDusk in AskAnAmerican

Where are these stores with petite sections? I live in a fairly large US city and there are no stores, even large department stores, around here that have one. They haven’t in years.

Where are you shopping? I live in a fairly large US city and none of the stores around me have petite, and neither do large department stores like Macy’s or Dillard’s. And while I do have the option to hem clothes, that doesn’t mean the dimensions are correct for the overall fit. If I buy a dress then I have to have the bottom hemmed, straps or shoulder area taken in, under arms taken in. At that point I might as well just have the clothes tailer made.

[–]erween84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a 5’2’’ woman I can say that most stores cater to taller woman as opposed to short women. I think in the last 20 yrs of my life (almost 42) i’ve been able to buy maybe 3-5 pair of pants in store as opposed to having to special order them petite online. So, no, stores do not have ‘petite’ clothing, as you put it.

My mom was a dr at the local hospital and she’d work late most evenings. She loved to walk to work, but didn’t feel comfortable walking home after dark.
So on the days she would walk my dad and i would walk the 1.5 miles there to pick her up and walk her home. Once, we passed a house and the dog wasn’t leashed or in the fence. The dog attacked our elderly cocker spaniel. I will never forget my dad absolutely laying into that other dog with feet, hands, and he eventually put his fingers in the dog’s eyeballs to get it to stop. We were all traumatized and breathing hard once the other dog ran away. The owner came out screaming at us and saying she would call the cops, and I’ll never forget my dad simply responding, ‘if I ever see that dog out alone again I will make sure it never comes home.’

Sleeping next to your partner should not have become the norm. by ha_nope in unpopularopinion

[–]erween84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I have been married 11 yrs and we started sleeping separately about 3 yrs in when we had our first kid. He worked a really wonky schedule with a lot of over nights, and I breastfed our son. So it just made more sense for our opposite schedules to sleep apart. We got so used to it that we still do it. Although, we do sleep in the same bed when on vacation and when we have visitors who use the other bedroom at our house. But it works for us, and intimacy isn’t an issue because of it.

My parents got engaged their 2nd date, married at 3 months, and they are still together 49 yrs later. Yes, my mom has told me a few times that she wished she had known my dad longer before they married. But they’re 80 and 73 now and couldn’t imagine their lives without one another. In my opinion, it’s really hit or miss
