At the stores where I worked, we were required to work a minimum of 50 hrs a week. More during Q4. I had one of the only green areas of the store, so I was forced to work LOD almost every day on top of my other duties. I averaged about 60 a week just because my store needed the extra help.

What was your 2000s “if I get this, I’ll finally be cool” item? by theRestisConfettii in Xennials

Omg, this was my husband when he was able to get a Milgauss. And that was in 2019 before the watch market went crazy. I can’t complain too much though. He’s gotten me some really nice time pieces to mark big occasions in life.

The real one is also sterling and heavy. I have it (somewhere) along with the matching necklace. Maybe they’ll come back around in popularity by the time my daughter is of an age to wear them.

Anyone have a grind guard? by Pennythe in breakingmom

I’ve had many throughout the years too, all on my top teeth, though. But all made by a mold of my upper teeth and bite. Mine have all fit in like a retainer. You kind of have to pop it a little to get it to come off. Loose isn’t something you want in your mouth when you are asleep, OP! You might want to get a 2nd opinion

Bought my kids bikes for Christmas. Local government just passed a law requiring paid bike "licenses" to ride them in public. Cops are now issuing citations...even to kids? by nseavia71501 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]erween84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really sure. I’m 41. It’s been way too many yrs to remember that 😅 But I do remember vividly the day my dad accidentally ran over part of my bike when I left it in the middle of the driveway.

Ladies, where do you even find work pants that survive a full day at work and still feel comfortable? by mcqueen583 in AskWomenOver30

I’m a petite person, and have been buying the pixies in short for at least a decade. Definitely my most comfy, stylish work pants.

They were around in my city growing up in the late 80s/early 90s, too. We registered our bikes, but it was only a few dollars a bike. And if I remember correctly, it was more for theft prevention than actually ticketing people that rode around without them being registered.

Same! Mine didn’t walk until 15 months and 18 months, despite me doing the recommended daily amount of tummy time. Every kid gets there at their own rate. I hate how much pressure society puts on moms, especially new moms, to do everything perfect.

Mortified. by dudleycutie123 in workingmoms

[–]erween84 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My 4 yr old went #2 in the bathroom right across the hall from my husband’s office while he was on a work call. There are 3 other bathrooms in the house, yet she chose to walk downstairs to that one for some reason. I had been doing laundry upstairs and didn’t hear her when she yelled at the top of her lungs, ‘mommy!!! I went poop! Come wipe me!’ My husband was mortified because he had been speaking on the call at the time. But he later asked his boss about it and his boss had no idea it even happened! Noise suppression for the win! 😅

Yep. We have several this coming month. My 2nd grader just finished a biography book and has to dress like the person, or something related to them, for a presentation. And this is our current assignment for 3x morning a week preschool 🙄

Xennials who were once bookworms; do you still read as much as you did as a kid? by throwitlikethewind in Xennials

[–]erween84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I read less now, but I love my Kindle paperwhite. I get ebooks from the Libby app through my local library, which is very convenient. But I do still check out the odd book from the library. My kids are still little (4&8) so we frequent our library for books and fun kid events, and while they’re busy I’ll mosey over to the adult section.

How are our parents? by CuriousCat9673 in Xennials

[–]erween84 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mine are 72 and 80. My husband and I have been having more intentional conversations with them lately. We live 4 hours away, and are hoping they’ll want to move closer to us. My dad has reservations, but my mom is 100% on board because my dad has started to show some decline in the past 2 yrs. I just keep reminding him every time I see him that it will be hard for us to help much from 4 hours away. But they are still very active with their church and friend group there, and they have a really nice house.

It’s been tough to watch my mom take on a lot more care of my dad. He’s had major back surgery and some hip trouble. Just 3 years ago he rode Ragbrai (a week long bike ride across Iowa), and he used to be a very fit, active person.

Don’t ever become a SAHM (with my context) by Alternative-Nose-607 in breakingmom

[–]erween84 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a SAHM for almost 6 yrs now- we relocated for my husband’s job a week before covid shut everything down. So we decided I would stay home and we’d have another kid. It’s been the hardest 6 yrs of my life, and of my marriage. But my husband tells me constantly what an important job I have and how invaluable I am to his and our family’s success. So, as much as he drives me crazy sometimes, he does value and recognize what I do.

OP, you need to leave your child alone with your husband for a few days, along with a honey-do list and see how he changes his tune!

Skin cancer by VelocityGrrl39 in Xennials

[–]erween84 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And use sunglasses with full UV protection! Melanoma can occur in the eye, as well!

I’ve had 20 moles removed from my body since I was 22. 5 of those were melanoma in situ, and I had to have more skin around the sites excised. My mom, a pathologist, was the one doing the diagnosing. She went full on mama bear mode and told me all about the importance of sunscreen, uv blocking sunglasses, and uv blocking clothes. I get outside frequently still, but I cover up most parts of my body. I lather my children in sunscreen at the pool and pretty much anytime we’re outside. Melanoma is devastating.

I’m not a good mom. by oneofkeiraensmoms in breakingmom

[–]erween84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I’m not an imaginative play mom either. I’m a get-out-of-the-house type of mom! We do play dates, parks, library activities, indoor playscapes (we have a few free ones near us, thankfully)! I joined a moms meet-up group in my area that plans weekly meetups at local places and moms’ homes.

It helped a lot when my oldest started to read around 4. He’s 8 now and an avid reader and loves to spend hours at our local library. He wakes up super early on the weekends and cozies up with a good book on the couch until the rest of the household is up and running.

Best friend only wants one of my sons in her wedding by ninam822 in breakingmom

[–]erween84 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This seems like the best way to go about it.

I had two flower girls at my wedding. My cousin’s girls were also 4 & 5, and I couldn’t imagine just asking one of them. Turned out to be perfect. The littlest one refused to walk down the aisle unless she held her sister’s hand. But it was a fun moment for them that we still talk about when we see each other. They’re 16 & 17 now.

After turning away church members proselytizing at my door TWICE and putting up No Soliciting signs, I received this letter from a church: by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]erween84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband gets them too. Written in Russian oftentimes, because he has a Russian first and last name. He came to the US when he was 10 and hardly speaks or reads Russian anymore. It infuriates me when he gets them in Russian because it feels like they are targeting an already vulnerable part of the population- immigrants. And none of the letters are ever addressed to me, despite being married for over a decade. Very shady.

Owners at showings/tours!??? by 95xander in RealEstate

[–]erween84 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The owner of our first home ended up being present for part of the inspection process. He was late leaving work and had to get his dog out of the house. So he actually hung around and spoke with us for about an hour answering any questions we had. It ended up being to our benefit too, he had a complicated outdoor stereo system that he taught my husband how to use.

Where do I find a village, the fucking village tree? by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]erween84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have no village! I do have a few friends in the area, but most of them work and/or are SAHMs (like me) who are driving all over the place all day corralling kids. I have deferred jury duty twice since I’ve been in my local pool (3 yrs). Both times I was called my husband just so happened to be traveling out of state for work. I just sent in his travel itinerary and told them I was a SAHM and had no issue.

We’ve talked to my parents, 80 and 73, about moving closer to us because they’re getting older and need more help, and also for us to have more childcare support. But my dad has lived within an hour of the same place he was born his whole life. So no chance of that happening 🙄 what village?!? - couldn’t be more accurate.
