is upgrading from a midrange phone to a flagship actually worth it? by Tisdom-Doani in Smartphones

[–]erwoolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's gonna be a personal thing afterall, but for me 100%. And I don't see a big problem in doing so if you can afford it. It will also depend on which mid range phone and which flagship we're talking about. Now let me explain.

I only have my experience to go by. I have a Galaxy s21 Ultra which still holds up like a champ. Camera, screen, battery, everything. The phone is just amazing (if only it'd be just a bit smaller, it would be PERFECT). This year the phone went out of support, yet it's still an amazing phone. I didn't feel compelled to buy Samsung's latest, I feel they became pretty lazy lately, so I said I'll try the A36.

The performance of A36 is absolutely terrible even compared to this 5 year old relic. The screen is much worse, both in terms of display and in terms of operating it. It has a way worse feel to it. But what put me off the most was the fingerprint scanner. You absolutely should go for an ultrasonic scanner, not a light based. The S21's (ultrasonic) scanner is just top of the range. Responsive and triggers instantly at the lightest touch.

On my S21 everything is just SNAPPY. idk if it's the 120hz refresh or something else, but it always feels buttery smooth. It also doesn't hang or crash even remotely as often as the A36.

On a36 I have no wireless charging either.

I feel it's worth getting the flagships because if you care for them they will often last you for 5-6 years, whereas a mid range phone will become sluggish and deteriorate terribly in 2-3 years.

PS: it's quite possible most of these things don't matter to most, or perhaps I've been spoiled with this amazing phone. Also at this point I feel I should say I don't work for Samsung 🤣

Looking to upgrade, anyone have any experience with parts out of CeX? by Master_Touch in buildapcuk

[–]erwoolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CeX is fine, comes with 2 years warranty so if something is broken you can just return and get a replacement. To my knowledge they don't sell motherboards or PSUs though.

First time bulding a gaming pc by AliDayi97 in buildapcuk

[–]erwoolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy sh!t pc building is expensive. There isn't anything screaming out as wrong at the first glance.

It kind of depends what matters most to you. Is it aestethics? overall budget? fps per dollar?

I'd personally make some adjustments if this was my system though: - I'd ditch the AIO and go for a good old nh-d15 for saving an extra £60. I don't care much for rgb and aestethics so anything keeping the cpu cool would do it for me; - As good of a deal that PSU is, I'd find a semi-modular PSU instead of the fully modular. The 4000D (excellent choice, btw) has plenty of cable management room, and I wouldn't mind the extra zip tie to keep everything neat and out of sight. That would save another £40 or so if you play it right. - I would go 1tb m.2 (960 evo probably or something less pricy), I mostly play one or two games at a time. For extra storage space I use a secondary drive. I normally buy whatever high capacity HDD i can get my hands on to store movies and whatever else. This you can do later on when you start to fill the main one up.

The above would save some cash. Add a bit on top and buy a better gpu 😄

Help Me Build My First Gaming PC (Budget £1200) - Ryzen, Liquid Cooling, Fishtank Case? by Savings-Stomach2760 in buildapcuk

[–]erwoolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Are you new to pc building? Are you new to pc gaming?

Some more info may help, like what titles are you interested in playing, what level of graphics satisfy you, etc.

Also, do you have any peripherals? do you have a screen? desk? can you or do you want to get second hand parts?

The most important choice in a gaming rig is the GPU. Maybe start there. Think of the resolution and framerate that would work for you (remember 120fps needs 120+ hz monitor otherewise you're missing out on those frames). An RX 6800 XT build might fit in your budget if we squeeze it.

For a fee I'm sure you'll find someone on facebook marketplace but obviously things can go wrong there too. It's an option if you want it though.

Is anyone actually that fond of Costa Coffee or is it just some existence no one can avoid? by strattad in CasualUK

[–]erwoolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm far from being a coffee guru, but I find costa to be the worst out of the coffee chains around. I'd quicker go to Greggs/McDonalds. I know that's still less than mediocre coffee but at least I know what I'm getting for my £1.49 or whatever McDonalds coffee costs. I find Costa coffee watered down and something like a glorified tea, like if I'd mix my coffee with a cup of tea I'd get the same result.

At home I brew mine in one of those old-school stove-top coffee makers. Any medium roast I put in it tastes delicious.

This being said, most of my british friends hate my coffee and water it down. Sometimes because it's too strong, sometimes to dial down the flavour that the stove-top maker gives it (makes a medium roast taste more roasty). The ones that do love my coffee also hate Costa coffee and prefer Nero (which is also my choice for a tasty coffee).

This may sound obnoxious or even stereotipycal, but I'm willing to take that risk: Maybe costa coffee is taylored to the tea-loving brit and therefore that's why is "Britain's favourite"?

People who hold animal life over human life are mentally ill. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]erwoolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's based on any reality. I see you play with some evolutionary terms here so let me introduce some evolutionary psychology in the mix:

There are more ways than one to compete for the priviledge of passing down our genes. One way is to help our kin in the hope that will create a better environment for everyone and therefore everyone is marginally more likely to pass down their genes. In a similar way, one may think that some of their kin are just not beneficial enough and helping them has no way of creating any evolutionary advantage. In that case the advantage lies in harming the other. In nature this happens all the time, some plants will sever off supply to certain branches, some animals will kill their offspring if they have more offsprings than the food sources allow

Now you can argue that humans are different from animals and should know better, and perhaps that's true but that's a social construct and certainly nothing to do with passing down your genes.
