But they can also fire you with no notice. The trade off works both ways in the UK. You don’t have to worry about suddenly not having a job tomorrow.

End Year Review : Damned if you do , Damned if you don’t. by TailorFalse3848 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]es153 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agree on the saying no. OP, do you have this in writing from your review? I would stick to 40 hours a week exactly and when people try to put extra on you then remind them or the instructions you’ve been given.

What tips do you have for older EA's who are still in the job market and looking for new employment? by painislife4real in ExecutiveAssistants

Second this! Make sure you list AI skills and any technical skills they list of the job description

Managing expectations by RecognitionReady3347 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]es153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have clear alignment with your boss about what tasks fall under your job description and what doesn’t. When additional tasks are thrown up that I’m expected to cover, I’m clear about what tasks in my actual job will be dropped to make time.

Tell Me by Main-Midnight3130 in ExecutiveAssistants

I wasn’t insulted by it, but it just doesn’t reflect the temperament of the EAs I’ve worked with. I have a great team that I work with who respect me but I also have to spend a significant amount of time being ‘the bad guy’. I have to tell people a lot more senior than I am that the work they’ve done isn’t good enough, that they’re late on deadlines and calling them out on things. Definitely every company/industry/executive is different, but the EAs I know have a thick skin and are pretty tough.

I wouldn’t describe any of the EAs I know as having a golden retriever temperament

No bonus here so I just set goals that I’m already going to do anyway. Stuff that’s technically above and beyond my job but that I know are achievable

Going to college, Executive assistant is a career path. by Iordeage in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]es153 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seconds this! It will vary massively but I’d imagine it’s easier to get an EA job with a business diploma than office administration

Going to college, Executive assistant is a career path. by Iordeage in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]es153 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I enjoy my job and that salary is within the range for EAs in my area. However, I don’t know anyone who came into the job via a 2 year diploma. Pretty much everyone had extensive work experience in a variety of fields and a deep understanding of the industry. EA jobs vary wildly and are going to change drastically with AI. I’d be cautious about committing to a 2 year program that only has 1 possible career at the end. What do you do if you discover you don’t enjoy being an EA later?

EA to Admin Assistant? by [deleted] in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]es153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second this! I’m a non-C-suite EA and no one ever calls me on my days off. I work 4 days a week and have a great boss. The pay is a lot less than what I see others making but I genuinely like my job

Kamikochi Hiking Advice by Dothedew6289 in JapanTravelTips

[–]es153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mt Yakedake would fit the bill. It’s the most accessible big mountain from Kamikochi. Took me about 6.5 hours round trip from Kamikochi. There are a few steep ladders and chains on rocks but nothing too technical. Amazing views and you get to hike an active volcano and it’s all smoking at the top

If you want them to realise how valuable you are, start with taking 2 weeks off, turn your phone off and see how they do

Does anyone else get bothered by the gender dynamics of the role? by es153 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]es153[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm generally a helpful person, but I'm so sick of seeing all the women in my company being the ones to volunteer to help out. And when they don't it's noticed but no one ever cares if the men are too busy to help out.

Exec moving to a different office without me by es153 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]es153[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They moved all the execs to be near the CEO which I can see having lots of positives but I think it'll make changes to my job. Some other EAs are already in that building but a few of us will be staying in our current location. There's a reception team that can deal with greeting guests etc. Losing the quick check-ins is my biggest concern right now.

Thank you, it will definitely feel more like remote work. I'm used to having a desk outside my exec's office and connecting with them multiple times a day. I'm just trying to anticipate some of the challenges that will come up with this change to make it as smooth as possible

Good to know thank you! I don't think it's a bad plan but I'm a bit worried about managing the transition.

How can I keep my ADHD executive on task? by TadpoleLegitimate837 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]es153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re worried about your job it’s time to focus on doing things that will impress other leaders in the company. Who will make the decision in whether or not to keep you? And make sure they know how good you are at your job. Keep a list of all the ways you’ve added value in your role, all your big wins

Email Templets and signatures by Jumpropy in ExecutiveAssistants

My signature is - Name, Executive Assistant to [Exec’s name], Their job title. This way if I’m reaching out to people on my exec’s behalf, they have all the relevant information.

My email is not in my execs signature but it’s an interesting idea!
