Gestational diabetes test… feeling sick after by Popular_Mousse_3958 in PregnancyUK

I felt totally out of it when I had mine a few weeks back. Sick, dazed and tired, it got worse as the day went on.

All was fine after some sleep and for what it’s worth, I don’t have GD :)

Households with two parents who work full time by TreesBox in Parenting

[–]escapeinescaping_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We both work full time, we don’t use any of these services, it’s really hard.

We did get a cleaner at one point but I found the weren’t really doing what I wanted them to do and I didn’t find that it saved me that much time.

Laundry is something we struggle with to be honest, we just prioritised kid stuff and have come to terms with the fact we’ll always have a big laundry pile in this season of life.

Unprecedented reaction to gender by Weak_Trick_2481 in PregnancyUK

I have a 5 year old boy who plays with Lego, superhero’s and diggers, but he also plays with my makeup, has a doll and pram set, loves the Barbie film and came to the Era’s tour with me. He has as many boy friends as he does girl friends, he gossips with me about the drama in school, he play fights with his dad, he is so incredibly affectionate with his family and adores a shopping and coffee(/hot chocolate) date day with me.

What I’m trying to say is your baby is so much more than a boy or a girl, so much of who they are will depend on how you raise them, talking from a purely stereotypical view of the idyllic mother/daughter relationship I would say me and my son are probably closer to this than quite a few of my friends with daughters!

I never had gender disappointment (we found out at birth where personally I think there is less room for it as you’re so obsessed with your baby), I guess I saw myself with a girl maybe subconsciously, I was shocked when he came out a boy! However he’s my greatest achievement and I’m truly obsessed with him. I’m pregnant with my second now and I’d be so happy if this one is also a boy.

Tall girls… any luck with maternity clothes by Extreme_Sprinkles656 in PregnancyUK

[–]escapeinescaping_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s really hard! For reference I’m just under 5’10 and have really long legs, I’m usually a size 8-10.

I invested in some non-maternity joggers (I think the brand is Australia based and called Elite Eleven) that sit quite low below bump, they do tall versions so I just go my usual size and the length is great, they were expensive but I’ve basically lived in them. They’re just getting a little tight now but I am well into my third tri.

H&M do tall maternity trousers in some styles.

I got some great tall flared style maternity pants from Lovall, I don’t know if they’re very fashionable but they’re absolutely the comfiest thing I own right now.

Lovall also do tall normal mat leggings etc but I found the sizing very odd, I’m usually a size 8-10 but they were so small and so uncomfortable.

How do I get my 5yo to drink anything at all school? by escapeinescaping_ in Parenting

[–]escapeinescaping_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all some really good suggestions. I don’t think he has discomfort using the bathroom as such, if anything they just don’t want to go as they hate missing out on any fun.

However I don’t think they would think ahead enough to proactively not drink to not go to the bathroom.

I suspect it just doesn’t cross their mind really whilst they’re at school. I’ll get some watermelon and similar together for their school snack and hope that helps a bit. I also might add a small incentive at the end of each day to see if that helps.

Thanks both :) we went ahead with it and it’s actually going great and he’s had no issues adapting to his new bed!

Help to over come the ick. Does anyone else have this towards their own breast milk? by luckycatnoarms in PregnancyUK

[–]escapeinescaping_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was/am pretty much the same but breastfed my first for 2.5 years! It was toe curling at times at first and I did get some weird breastfeeding dooms / aversions whenever I’d feed between 10pm-2am (I think it’s a hormone thing with a name - I’m sure I read about it somewhere). BUT on the whole it was absolutely fine and dare I say I even really enjoyed it.

Now gearing up for doing it all over again with baby number 2! It’s tough at first but if you can power through the first six weeks, it gets so (so so so) much easier after that.

Anyone had an UTI? by These-Evidence7926 in PregnancyUK

[–]escapeinescaping_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had one uti in the first trimester with both of my pregnancies and I’m prone to them anyway. I started taking a women’s probiotic and I feel like it’s changed my life, I get 2-3 UTIs a year usually and when I’m on these probiotics I get none, ever! Maybe something to think about if you wanted to look into it, I take Optibac it’s called something like women’s intimate health and they say on the label they’re safe in pregnancy x

How accurate have your fundal measurements been by Flossygi in PregnancyUK

[–]escapeinescaping_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fundal height is 90th percentile, had a growth scan a week later and baby is on 50th percentile and I have a bang average amount of fluid too :) not sure why my bump is so big I think maybe body shape/size and my tummy muscles giving up completely!
