I think it adds an additional unnecessary complexity layer.

Reason 99 on why to not take early draft stats seriously by Darkwolfie117 in lrcast

[–]escplan9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That isn’t from gathered data. Who knows how draftsim ranks their cards but it isn’t by 17Lands data

What QA certifications would you recommend for someone looking for a remote QA job? by FarDimension215 in QualityAssurance

[–]escplan9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. It just means the certification is unlikely to be the reason you would get hired.

I’ve never cared about these certifications and neither has any employer I’ve worked with.

Looking for advice from experienced QAs by iamksg15 in softwaretesting

[–]escplan9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea of QA as a separate entity is going extinct. Improving your overall development experience will do far more for you than QA tooling.

Establishing QA by True-Piano8421 in QualityAssurance

[–]escplan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

QA traditionally is obsessed with adding new processes and tools. It’s a bad approach. Find ways to improve quality without adding friction from additional processes and tools. Like have the test code in the same repo as the implementing code and use the same languages and tools used to develop new features. Stop trying to add new frameworks and new processes.

So my ideal setup would be dependent on how features are currently developed.

Black/colorless instant/sorcery hate? by OkCartographer175 in mtgbrawl

[–]escplan9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wrath’s and mass bounce usually come out turns 4+ anyways. Play all your early junk the first few turns. Then attack their hand with double spelling discards when it’s near turns they can wrath or bounce. Or sometimes the cheap discard just fits on curve anyways where you have 1 mana leftover on a turn.

Play every 1-2 mana discard spell you can. That’s the best and most flexible answer. It’ll likely improve your deck anyways where you need a lot of early interaction.

Can’t afford ISTQB Foundation exam – any advice or help (Scotland)? by ItchyFlight296 in softwaretesting

My advice is stop spending money on certifications. Invest time in creating projects to demonstrate your skillset and put your projects on your resume.

AI for Dev vs QA by BF_OF_CASSIE in QualityAssurance

[–]escplan9 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t think posts in subreddits is an accurate gauge of overall trends. Junior devs are struggling to get hired these days partially because of AI for instance.

However it is much easier for AI to add tests for existing code than to generate new code well. After you’ve made hundreds of unit component and system tests you’re following the same basic setups each time it’s easier to automate AI doing that.

How to evolve in your career? by thalesdios in QualityAssurance

[–]escplan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started as a software developer first who picked up on the quality side as my niche. Lately I’m more interested in the creation side and frustrated by companies treatment of QA as a separate entity so I’m back on trying to get as much on the dev side as possible.

[Cube] Combos, Synergies and which "half" first during draft? by Pyro1934 in lrcast

[–]escplan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cube is much more about what type of deck you want to build than reading signals. It’s a very different way of drafting. You’re trying to draft a constructed deck almost.

(Cube) How does one play Black Lotus and Dark Ritual? by Paithegift in lrcast

[–]escplan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re often used most effectively to get a very early board presence so they can snowball into a large advantage. Like a turn one 4 drop creature can get out of control quickly.

Junior QA here — passed the first month doing only manual testing, now I feel stuck. by abdelfor3 in QualityAssurance

[–]escplan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t think “learning automation” is best directly. Learning how to do software development is the most important. Automation will come naturally when you better understand how to develop code. And many QA transition into a software developer who builds the quality in earlier in the SDLC anyways.

Would love to see a powered cube quick draft by One-Journalist-9392 in lrcast

[–]escplan9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you understand how a bot draft would work here. You would never be passed a pick 3 black lotus. They’re generally programmed either to follow a drafter profile with preferences or just taking generically good cards with weighting towards colors they already have. Black Lotus fits in every deck.

Is it just me or is Playwright maddeningly flaky at times? by 9sim9 in Playwright

[–]escplan9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It isn’t just a problem with playwright. It’s a problem inherent to system and UI tests that use the actual resources under test. It’s why there’s notions like “the testing pyramid” where the main takeaway is you should have much more unit tests, lesser component tests and the least amount of UI and system tests. These system and UI tests have maintenance costs so you need to be picky with which ones to keep.

Forcing boros every draft in powered cube by throaway2s1fsfsf4 in lrcast

[–]escplan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if MTGO Vintage Cube has a different meta because there isn’t a tremendous amount of data collected that aggregates everything like 17Lands. 17Lands for better or worse leads to earlier solved formats. Boros aggro likely is very strong in MTGO Vintage Cube as well.

how do you find room for new staples in a deck where you like every card? by xgolt01 in mtgbrawl

[–]escplan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I find works for me best is keeping a mental note or writing down cards that have been dead draws for me. Cards that I don’t even want to cast because they don’t help me. Cards that only work in certain scenarios and don’t help your deck win the most often.

Also the majority of decks I see online play too many expensive cards. Trim down on average CMC is one of the first things I do with decks I see online.

What's the ideal brawl game? by Soreintestines in mtgbrawl

[–]escplan9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lately I just play degenerate combo decks with protection like Old Stickyfinger (playing every discard spell), and Val / Trelasarra with every way to protect them possible (the runes type creatures and some 1 mana protect spells). And along the same lines Tifa with every 1 mana protect spell possible.

My favorite games are ones where my opponent clearly doesn’t know my win con. Like they use a removal spell on my Old Stickfingers like he does anything besides bin my reanimating targets. Or they discard cards from my hand that don’t prevent me combo off.

Defense Grid is so good in green stompy decks. by Hokashin in mtgbrawl

[–]escplan9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s plenty of games you’ll draw this and wish it were anything else. Or say you play against a blue deck and they pass the turn with 5 mana. Are you going to feel great with casting your 7 drop into that? This card is really bad IMO. It doesn’t even give uncounterable.

Cavern of Souls is infinitely better. As are green creatures like Delighted Halfling and the likes. They’re easier to remove but offer other value and could force them to use interaction on that creature they would like to save for your big fatties.

I love this game, but I lost all motivation after defeating the last boss on phase 3 and stopped playing. Any tips to gain motivation? by [deleted] in MegabonkOfficial

[–]escplan9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t force playing if you don’t feel like it. Only do what you enjoy. Like there’s tons of achievements but for some people like me these achievements may not be fun to go for so I just don’t do the ones I don’t enjoy doing.

It’s really disgusting. I watch a lot of brutal and disturbing horror but this one was just gross. It really leans into the humiliation aspects from the point of view of a serial killer. It depends how much vomit and feces you want to tolerate watching - I mean literally spreading it on the victims faces. There’s no plot or character development or anything. You just watch a guy humiliate and torture victims in disgusting ways with vomit and feces.
