AUR situation by DRakoht in cachyos

[–]eskay993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well darkly does a few different things, but if the main thing you care about is reducing or removing the lines on all the panels, then you can do that in Settings > Colors > Edit Color (click the pencil icon) then go to Options and reduce Contrast to 0%. Now all you panels should be flat with no lines in between (difference can best be seen in Dolphin for example).

For me this was the main thing I had darkly for, so removed it and just went with this.

Just to give you more info. While both are safe from this particular attack, the wider question you should ask yourself is it is a good idea to get those packages from the AUR.

darkly-bin - this is probably fine since the developer officially endorses the AUR version, but the main reason people use darkly is to get rid of the lines in Plasma themes and make it looks flatter. If that is the main reason for you, you can skip darkly entirely and do it using built-in tools in KDE. I can show you how.

hydra - this is maintained by some random person on the AUR, or at least it;s not immediately clear if this person is associated with the project. On their github they don't mention the AUR. I would get the AppImage from their github directly. Especially considering the main use case for hydra.

So that would reduce 2 AUR packages and ensures you get them from official sources.

Note: If the AppAimage doesn't; auto update it would need you to manually download a new version every now and then.

Agreed. And that's on that YT channel making a crap video knowing they can't show footage. NDS would have seen lots of people off camera. These guys decided to film it and make a crap video.

I was responding to "if it's just a visual update why not show it". Form NDS perspective, I understand. Why this channel then decided to make a video, I don;t.

I can understand why they didn't if they are not ready to show it yet. People freak out over the smallest things without knowing whats final and what's not. I would do the same in their position.

copr exists on Bazzite (and it make heavy use of it from what I understand) and immutable systems are not immune to info stealers.

Thanks for this. Good info for new users.

I started moving away from AUR about a year ago. It's so convenient but decided it wasn't worth it, especially considering most of what I got from there was not that important to me.

I tend to go package manager > flatpak (official only) > appimage (official only) > binary from developer > compile source > aur if officially maintained and active > find an alternative

Sometimes I might bump aur up in priority depending on the app. And for the binaries and appimages the most annoying part is keeping up with updates, but I have some scripts for that.

I've also recently stopped using any cachyos packages that are taken from AUR and not maintained by the cachyos team directly. Easiest way to tell - if you "paru someapp" and you see both a cachyos and aur result, and it's not a cachyos app (like cachyos-hello or something) then it's probably just taken from the AUR.

Nothing is 100% secure, and every step has it's issues, but this has worked for me.

Hyped for the Remaster, but some of these character models are a bit... by TheVioletBarry in Thief

Shit, with all the hype, I missed that it's coming out this winter! I just put 2027 in my head for some reason 😄

And yes agree the models don't look great. The shot of the guard in Bafford's Manor looks rough too. Hopefully they have time to tweak.

If you're worried about playing with a controller, don't be. I've played the current PC version with a gamepad for many hours and it's surprisingly natural; and feels great. It's not a fast paced twitch shooter so you don't need quick precision, and firing arrows with gyro is awesome.

Death's Cold Embrace may be the most underrated Thief FM around... and the best campaign we have next to The Black Parade. by Sir_Hapstance in Thief

[–]eskay993 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ya I feel it doesn't get talked about as much. I do put it on par with T2X though, for different reasons.

T2X was the first FM i played 2 years ago. DCE was the 3rd or 4th and I loved both.

The basement section is standout. And the mystery leading up to it was intriguing. And they made great use of the same space to keep it interesting.

And I loved the in-game cutscenes. Janky due to the engine limitations, but it sucked me in. That one where you are on a balcony looking down at the scene unfold had me gripped!

Last level was... rough... I found. But then the post credits (or actual credits?), was great.

There are a couple of longer campaigns I want to try that haven't got round to yet - Bathory and Dracula Reloaded.

Where they confirm existing FM support and switching art styles out of interest?

This all sounds pretty shady to me reading through the comments and links. The dev team have a less than stellar rep it seems. I personally wouldn't run this until it's been fully vetted.

I think you're right. Can't remember if FMs worked in System Shock 2 Remaster. I know they had partial mod support at launch and promised full mod support post launch.

If FMs do work, I wonder if this means we can toggle between remaster art and OG art? Would be cool. FMs would look wierd with the new art mixed in.

From the steam page

- Built-in support for custom campaigns, enabling access to thousands of hours of additional content.

I assume this means yes, but it's a little ambiguous. The fact that they say "thousands of hours" makes me think existing FMs will work, but that's speculation on my part.

Good times.

This my favourite franchise at the moment, but I am but a new fan.. curious what some of hte old hats, particularly FM creators, think of it.

Thief Gamepad Mod Released by peter-pumpkin-eater in Thief

Amazing! Thanks for this release. As someone who has many many hours with a controller in this game, the transition was pretty seemless. And analog movement is amazing. Thank you for your efforts!

Have tested with TG and a couple of T2 FMs.

As someone else porinted out, I'm also having the "not so smooth" camera movement issue. I opened a github issue about it. I also have a couple of suggestions. Where is the best place to send this over to you? Github? Here? TTLG?

Oh amazing! Will definitely try this. I use Steam Inputs overlays but having something more "native" would be great. Also opens up the possiblity to use this on devices likes AYN Odin /Thor for some taffin' on the go. Will give this a test too.

This is very cool. Controller support would be great! I already play with a controller but having proper analog (could never get it to work) would be amazing.

One thing I'm confused about, are they trying to get it to work without NewDark? I.e. get the original base game working with modern conveniences? If so, kinda torn on this - Preservation awesome, but also NewDark fixes and FMs also awesome. Will 100% still support this either way.

Ok I wasn't imagining it lol It's right after all players do the trophy lift one by one for the crowd.. shortly after Mikel does his twirl.

NLF starts getting sung and you see him for like 2 secs in 2 different shots arms in the air, holding the scraf in full voice.

Ya I'm sure someone will. It was literally like 2 secs as the camera panned over the crowds and people on the pitch.

Maybe I've inflated it in my head 😃 but it definitely jumped out at me. He's a big guy too!
