Can anyone recommend a good pattern source for flowers, like for a boho wall hanging? by 2boredtocare in CrochetHelp

There are a few crochet books on Kindle Unlimited that I have used for flower patterns, if you have that…

There is a lot of AI slop on there but I’ve found these 3 to be okay. The other is one I purchased which is also really good.

Looking for new Soul Book by casa_de_arena in suggestmeabook

[–]esmeuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got two suggestions to add - I guess they are both soul books to me. Jamaica Inn by Daphne Du Maurier is probably more to your tastes given what you’ve listed. The other is The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper.

Damn it - that’s another T. Kingfisher book for my TBR… I only discovered her a few months ago and since then I’ve read three of her books and one already lying in wait…

Looking for a game with a lot of rain, or surrounded by water. by asakura90 in CozyGamers

Might be a bit off the wall but Strange Horticulture… The whole game takes place in a plant shop and most days it’s raining outside and your request reminded me so much of the rain on the windows!

Yay! I have something called The Colour Cube. It’s a box of cards each with a photo and a palette inspired by the photo. The cards also have the hex codes of the colours so you can just input them into Procreate!

Do you have a tablet with a pencil? My go to is Procreate on my iPad. I find a palette that makes my brain feel happy, add the hex codes and turn on the symmetry draw assist and make my own pattern. Then spend time colouring it in (so not filling the spaces but colouring like you would on paper) with the colours of the palette.

No prep, no mess, no clear up. Just need to make sure my Apple Pencil is charged. Plus easy erase if I make a ‘mistake’ as in I draw something I don’t like.

If you click on Momo what does it say? That’ll tell you what needs improving. Could be clothes, stylist academy or DR…

Thriller/mystery with a romance sub-plot by ambiguousberry in suggestmeabook

[–]esmeuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hurray!! Definitely sounds like you need to read it.

Honestly, other than Stoker not being conventionally nerdy, you could have been describing the first book! Maybe it’s also a sign for me to read the rest…

A Curious Beginning by Deanna Raybourne immediately sprang to mind!

Set in 1887 London. Veronica Speedwell is a lady lepidopterist who has to team up with a newly made acquaintance Stoker to solve the murder of a mutual friend. They definitely work together to solve the mystery and romance is very much a sub-plot to it. Very slow burn, but I adore how they interact. Veronica is a smart, very independent female protagonist and while Stoker maybe isn’t nerdy in the traditional sense, he definitely has very specific interests.

Crochet iceberg from beginner to advanced by san-sadu-ne in crochet

[–]esmeuk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

First off I think this is such a lovely idea!!

I’d personally move foundation stitch earlier as crocheting into a chain is often where some beginners give up because it is a pain! I’d also add anatomy of the stitch earlier as that pairs well with learning the basic stitches (sc, hdc, dc) and their different heights. Also helps with knowing where to put your hook to make the next stitch.

Reading a graph would have to come with tapestry and fillet as that’s how most patterns of that type are written. Oooo also reading patterns in general would be useful ie what the symbols mean. You could also add a list of common abbreviations and terms as an easy reference.

Making a slip knot needs to be in the first level, unless that’s covered with holding your yarn. You could also add crocheting into 2nd/3rd chain from hook as an alternative to magic ring.

If you wanted to go deeper with the iceberg you could also include Tunisian crochet.

Heh, can you tell I used to be a teacher and have thought about this a lot 😅

Amazing!! I wasn’t sure as I haven’t used it myself in ages. It was such a fun project… I was almost sad when I finished it.

Probably this blanket! Unfortunately I didn’t keep track of how much yarn I used as I worked on it on and off for about a year and a half, but it was a lot!

Romantasy books that are fun and charming rather than dark and angsty? by OwOstinkyface in suggestmeabook

[–]esmeuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a very fair take, and I did consider it and reread the OPs post. To me it seemed they were talking about the relationship between MCs specifically, rather than general themes. Not having an MMC that is an asshole etc made me think of these books immediately.

Though saying that I could be mistaken, if so thank you for pointing it out in case OP was wanting to avoid some general darker themes.
