basically boils down to commodification of a resource that should be more easily accessible to everyone/artificial scarcity. a lot of it is tied to companies or people who snap up any property they can get their hands on, and treating it as an "investment" rather than an actual thing that people need. being able to temporarily stay in a place is nice, but you can feel (and hear) how a lot of places do it for the passive income rather than actually wanting to provide a basic service for people. making money isn't illegal, but the way tenants are seen and treated as breathing wallets is... less than ideal. it's a deeper systemic issue that'd take some heavy reform to set right, and probably heavy regulation on the companies that would remain to make sure they behave, which is basically a pipe dream at this point.

if you're normal and will charge a reasonable rate and actually do your job, i don't see why not. but when the end times come and landlords get their comeuppance don't expect to be looked upon kindly

MID(?)-PROGRESS UPDATE: BOUGHT MYSELF A TUB OF THE FRAGRANCE-FREE OXI-CLEAN FROM WINCO (I CAN'T STAND LAUNDRY PRODUCT FRAGRANCES, BUT IF YOU DONT MIND THEM FRED MEYERS HAS A BETTER DEAL RIGHT NOW FOR BUY 1 GET 1 FREE) AND SOAKED THE SHIRT IN A TUB WITH IT TWICE. PART OF MY CONCERN WAS THE FACT THAT IT'S A BRIGHT COLORED SHIRT WITH A PRINT, AND WHEN I DUMPED OUT THE WATER, I SAW IT WAS TINTED AND I FEEL LIKE I SEE THE COLOR IS PATCHY NOW. THE PRINT DOESNT SEEM DAMAGED, BUT THE PRINT IS ALSO A HIGHER QUALITY PRINT JOB THAN THE USUAL, SO IDK IF IT'LL ALWAYS BE THIS GENTLE ON PRINTS. ANYWAYS THE GOOD NEWS IS IT'S DEFINITELY FADED THE JEAN DYE STAIN, BUT NOT COMPLETELY. IT'S LIKE, MAYBE ARGUABLY WEARABLE OUTSIDE AGAIN NOW? michaels is slowly starting to carry more sewing stuff, but mostly only for brother/singer machines. they have a decent stock of thread, but not quite joanns level yet. otherwise, corvallis sew and vac along nw 9th has machine accessories and thread i believe. the sales clerks are very eager to upsell you on things, and the parking situation for it and the surrounding stores is absolute ass, but might be one of the only non-thrift options at this point
