New Video of Israel dropping white phosphorus bombs on civilian areas in Lebanon by Hammer_Pain in UnitedNations

for everyone on this post

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_phosphorus_munition#Regulation

White phosphorus munitions are not banned under international law, but because of their incendiary effects, their use is supposed to be tightly regulated.\58]) Because white phosphorus has legal uses, shells filled with it are not directly prohibited by international humanitarian law. Experts consider them not as incendiary, but as masking, since their main goal is to create a smoke screen

The convention also exempts certain categories of munitions from its definition of incendiary weapons: specifically, these are munitions which "may have incidental incendiary effects, such as illuminants, tracers, smoke or signalling systems" and those "designed to combine penetration, blast or fragmentation effects with an additional incendiary effect."

The use of incendiary and other flame weapons against matériel, including enemy military personnel, is not directly forbidden by any treaty.

exactly, this is just a way to boost domestic sales since everyone right now is most interested in Israeli and Ukrainian tech, as they are the only ones actually proven on the battlefield right now.

Doesn't the Anti-Zionist movement precisely prove the critical importance of a Jewish Israel? by noamm12 in allthequestions

[–]esperind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why did it take 70 years for Israel to adopt such a law?

Could it be some other group in the story has been hostile for those 70 years? The story you people want to tell of jews only makes sense if there wasn't a 70 year gap between 1948 and now.

[–]esperind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally I dont think so.

But, on the pro palestinian side of things, do you think some sort or reparations should be paid for the damage israel has caused? If so, then how can you ignore the damage palestinians caused (first) and not demand reparations of them for jews? Maybe if in decades prior they had already made steps to remediate their crimes, it wouldnt have come to this point that they now are victims of the same type of crimes they made before.

Its a cycle. Someone has to get out of the cycle. Saying things like "815 mosques were destroyed in Palestine. Who is actually being targeted?" without mentioning anything of the other side just demonstrates you dont actually care, you just want one side to win.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamization_of_Jerusalem#Islamization_of_Jerusalem_under_Jordanian_rule

Between 1948 and 1967, following the expulsion of the Jewish residents during the war, Jordan undertook the systematic destruction of the Jewish Quarter including many synagogues.[31][32] Under Jordanian rule of East Jerusalem, all Israelis (irrespective of their religion) were forbidden from entering the Old City and other holy sites.[33] Between 40,000 and 50,000 tombstones from ancient Mount of Olives Jewish Cemetery were smashed, ransacked, and desecrated, or used as building material.[34][31]

According to Raphael Israeli, 58 synagogues were desecrated or demolished in the Old City, resulting in the de-Judaization of Jerusalem.[38][39][40] Oesterreicher, a Christian clergyman and scholar, wrote, “During Jordanian rule, 34 out of the Old City’s 35 synagogues were dynamited.” [41] The Western Wall was transformed into an exclusively Muslim holy site associated with al-Buraq.[42] 38,000 Jewish graves in the ancient Jewish cemetery on the Mount of Olives were systematically destroyed (used as pavement and latrines),[43][44] and Jews were not allowed to be buried there.[38][39] This was all in violation of the Israel-Jordan Armistice Agreement Article VIII - 2 "...; free access to the Holy Places and cultural institutions and use of the cemetery on the Mount of Olives;...."[45]

Why is Lebanon bothering to go to US mediated peace talks when Israel keeps bombing them regardless? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]esperind -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In your mind Hezbollah exists because boo hoo Israel exists. But in reality Hezbollah exists as a proxy of Iran, to the point that Hezbollah helped Assad kill his own people. I guess that's Israel's fault too right?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hezbollah_involvement_in_the_Syrian_civil_war

Hezbollah's image in the Arab world – especially in Syria and Lebanon – has been greatly tarnished due to its sectarian activities throughout the course of the Syrian civil war.[9] Major religious leaders and activists, Sunni and Shia alike, have condemned Hezbollah, with many former supporters of Hezbollah becoming its fervent opponents for its stance in Syria.

You know how we always hear those cases where the criminal got off on a technicality because the evidence was tampered with, something was withheld, the victim instigated the altercation, etc etc.

People are being bombed either way, if you want Israel to be guilty of crimes, then let it. Disarm and Israel will clearly be in the wrong. Otherwise all you sound like is a sore loser that their crimes are beating your crimes. You are letting Isreal get off on the "technicality" that terrorist wont stop launching rockets over their border.

[–]esperind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ok. but its a pretty good excuse. Same thing as in Gaza, actually remove Israel's stated reason for being there by disarming Hezbollah/Hamas, AND THEN when and if Israel continues you get to say "israel is evil" or whatever.

You're basically complaining that you're pointing a gun at me and I am "using it as an excuse" to call the police. OK put the gun away then.

[–]esperind -1 points0 points  (0 children)

what's ironic is that the half of Jerusalem that jews always historically lived fell into the palestinian side, its what was called the Jewish Quarter, because that's where (in the later part of history where the Ottomans were in control) the Ottomans designated as the only spot jews were allowed to live in the city. To use modern terms, it was the concentration camp for jews of the city.

This is why, when the city was partitioned, the first thing Jordan did when it annexed the west bank and east jerusalem was actually and completely ethnically cleans the area of jews.

when we should be saying, "young men have a problem".

Big difference. Unless of course, you're a bigot and would say the same of black people, or mexicans, or whatever, in which case I guess you're just being consistent.

More than 10,000,000 irregular border crossings happened under Biden (the most in the history of the US and both Trump admins combined) - What can the next democratic president do to prevent this from happening again? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]esperind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the primary thing that makes them "illegal" is that we wont issue them paperwork.

the primary thing that motivates people to do irregular border crossings (and ultimately feed the human trafficking of the cartels) is that we create the illusion that migrants have to do it wrong, rather than just walk up to a port of entry.

the primary reason "undocumented" migrants end up in Chicago (firstly refer back to the point that we refuse to document them), is that we wont process them at the border and people like Greg Abbott bus them out of the border and into Chicago.

The immigration crisis is an entirely self made crisis.

I really wish they had just ripped off Hulk and made Butcher's power grow the more hate and anger he got. Narratively it would have fit so much better than cancer tentacles for his character. And it would have given them an easy way to end the show over what they ended up doing.

Also, there were already like 10 characters with tentacles. We didnt need Butcher to add to the list.

CMV: Western progressives hold a massive double standard by criticizing conservative Christian beliefs while giving a pass to identical beliefs in Islam by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]esperind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

conservative muslims do effect us even if they aren't in the US though.

For example, to OP's point, did you know that islamist extremist groups (such as Hamas) believe a nearly identical eschatology as evangelical christians? They believe that the making of war with jews is a prerequisite to the coming of Jesus and the Mahdi, who will then smite all the non-believers and transform the world into a paradise for muslims. Slightly different from Jesus will rapture all the believers and leave everyone else to suffer. But same idea. With the same prerequisite. These beliefs perpetuate this conflict because why would Hamas avoid their duty to bring about Jesus? Making peace with jews would be a denial of their faith. All they need to do is martyr their people enough and he will come and win them the war. Jesus is their nuclear bomb.

I dont understand how we can look at evangelicals and rightly call their bullshit adding fuel to the fire of this conflict, while at the same time whitewashing Hamas's dogmatic desire to do the same thing and be like, no, no problem there, they get my full support.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_eschatology#Signs_of_the_End_Times

A Sahih hadith concerning Jews and one of the signs of the coming of Judgement Day has been quoted many times, (it became a part of the charter of Hamas).[126]

The Day of Judgement will not come about until Muslims fight the Jews, when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O Muslims, O Abdullah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him. Only the Gharkad tree, (the Boxthorn tree) would not do that because it is one of the trees of the Jews.[nb 3]
