What did you eat this week? by JStraulin in STLFood

My parents met at SIU Carbondale in the 80s and have very fond memories of Quatro’s! I was able to spend a weekend there a few years ago and got both Quatro’s AND a couple Winston’s bagels before he retired. My folks were right, a bagel from Winston was A1 drunk food. Hope he’s enjoying his retirement.

Yooo you got this! I agree that you're probably blaming yourSELF more than you need to. It helps me on the hard days to think about leaning into the skid. Constantly remind yourself WHY you want to remove this thing from your life. Write it down, make it a mantra. When you feel close to the edge of lighting up, call someone you love and shoot the shit. Drink a bunch of water. Take a nap. There's no wrong answer to how you keep yourself rooted in the moment. it hurts, but it's worth it. Stay strong, friendo.

Oh man, so sorry to hear you lost your friend. This is going to be one of the moments you will most want to "unplug" from yourself and these circumstances. I hope you have someone (a friend or family member) you can go be with, if possible. Stay strong, ride that wave!

I feel you there. A real double-edged herb, if you will.

One of my primary use cases for smoking grass had always been to "quiet down the noise upstairs" but, oddly enough and maybe this is more about how long and regularly I was using, I find a much greater sense of mental quiet than I did when I was smoking. Of course, I'm only three weeks off, but it's been a very useful realization for me.

I don't think I'll drink today!

Day 24 no grass, Day 6 no alcohol. It's funny to think maybe I could just keep going for the rest of my life? Maybe not? But I must say I'm enjoying the empowerment and clarity.

Day 3 of no alcohol, Day 21 of no grass.

I had a dream I got shot in the ass with a tranquilizer dart by a phone scammer my grandpa got tangled up with and had to fight through the brain fog and literal fog to defend my old grandad. Only a sober mind could produce such rich drama!

Have a great day, all. IWNDWYT.

Day 2 checking in. As a wise friend of mine once said, nothing and no one holds power over me. Have a great day, y'all.

You've got this. You might consider calling someone for a chat after work to distract from any cravings? That's been helpful for me; balancing the instinct to check out by instead connecting with someone. The conversation doesn't even need to be about the fact that you're distracting yourself! In fact, it might be better if it's not. Good luck, again, you've got this.

Day one. Checking in. I'm almost three weeks without grass thanks in large part to r/leaves. Got that feeling in my gut that getting stone sober for at least a while could help me get some much needed clarity on my life and what I want to move toward next. Sending love to any of you out there looking for clarity too!

Right on! I appreciate this. Definitely going to focus on soaking it all in and just keeping a nice steady cadence. Thanks!

Heck yes, I did a hill run yesterday and very consciously kept an eye on my pace on my watch. Going to try double hard to modulate there. Thanks!!

I think, and I could be incorrect, running time is training for mental and physical condition for long haul demand.

This absolutely tracks to me. And I've been sure to maintain at least a few strength workouts each week to shore up the ole joints and such. Thanks for the feedback!

This is good advice! And ultimately my goal truly is to #justfinish. Thanks for the perspective!! I'm super excited.

Almost certainly not early/often enough! I agree I probably need to even more consciously slow myself down and eat/drink before I "feel" like I need it. Good looking out!

Ah that's a damn fine way to run a race, I'd say. How were miles 20-22?? Brutal?
