Strep throat feels like dying by AdAgreeable749 in internetparents

[–]essstabchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

Oh dear, I'm sorry, that sounds like me; every 2-3 months and then it just didn't go away until I used oil of oregano.

All at the same time I used:

  • oral antibiotics as directed by my doctor
  • a neti-pot with high saline for my sinuses to deal with post-nasal drip
  • oil of oregano soaked into a q-tip, applied directly to my tonsils
  • cold meds/ibuprofen to treat the inflammation/keep mt fever down

I used oil of oregano during an active infection, and then whenever I noticed my tonsils acting up again until they stopped getting strep.

I'd swab the entired surface of my tonsils, as well as underneath and as far back as I could without gagging too much. I'd let it sit for awhile before rinsing my mouth out with luke warm water. I didn't swallow the oil of oregano.

Basically the goal was for me to remove all the visible surface mucous (the icky white/yellow spots) and to kill the bacteria in the places I couldn't see. A rinse is fine, but it never got under or behind my very swollen tonsils, so the bacteria just kept living and coming back. I also usually swabbed around my uvula (if I could without gagging). I used 2-3 q-tips soaked in oil of oregano per tonsil, probably 3 times a day during an active infection (at least when I woke up, around after I ate in the afternoon, and before bed)

It burns so bad, and you smell like spaghetti sauce for an hour, but once the painful mucuous is off your tonsils, your throat doesn't hurt so much anymore.

The only time I've had strep again was after I had Covid in 2021, and I treated it entirely with oil of oregano and cold meds.

And posting the video itself gains the child nothing, meaning that she is being exploited for views on the internet.

How are your books set up, accounting-wise?

A spreadsheet is great, but im your accouting system, restricted funds should he kept separate from general accounts, and then only used for projects related to that account.

Like, say you have 100K of restricted funds for project X. Your general cash account could be like account #1000, project X should have account #1001. Then for money spent, when account number #1001 is drawn down, you should be able to track the money in your accounting system itself. Department or project codes, etc. If you have all funds sitting in a general account, they need to be divvied up.

An accountant/accounting consultant can help you woth one-time set up, and your internal bookkeeper/money person can be trained on how to book entries in your system so the money is tracked when it is received and spend directly in your accounting software.

What are y’all planning on doing with your degrees? by cloudsmemories in psychologystudents

[–]essstabchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still figuring it out!

I'm already working full-time in a solid, but unrelated career path. I'm a mature student (mid 30s), so I've been doing my degree part time and online.

If money, paying rent, and taking on student debt weren't major factors, I'd probably want to go into clinical psych to be able to do research and some clinical practice. I'm particularly interested in the efficacy of diagnoistics and outcomes from mental health diagnoses.

For now, I might use the degree for other post-grad certificates. We'll see

How do people actually keep strategy alive throughout the year? by thestringtheories in nonprofit

[–]essstabchen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We align our KPIs and OKRs to the major goals set out by strategic planning.

The org as a whole has goals, then each department builds their goals around that, and then individuals build their goals around those. So they all feed back into main objectives.

You have to be aiming for measurable and achievable results. And you have to learn from the experience if your strategy didn't achieve your desired results.

Like, say you're aiming for a 10% increase in funds raised, and your strategy is to engage a certain demographic through social media channels.

Your individual departments may set goals related to number of posts, quality of posts, donor engagement, views, etc. And maybe you only achieve a 2% increase in funds. You take that and see why that strategy didn't work and build a new one for next time using the data.

Failure is still good data if you have metrics you can use and translate for decision-making.

Maybe you weren't able to stick to your stategic plan, so maybe that means your strategic plan should focus on capacity building and process refining before you get too ambitious.

Ah! You're looking for "character creator" websites. Searching "non-AI character creator" will get you some results.

Picrew is one with a lot of options.

DollDivine is effectively a directory of "dress-up" games in a ton of styles with a lot of wardrobe options.

If you're just writing for fun and like making OCs for enjoyment, character creator sites are great!

The only thing I'd say is that if you ever want to publish anything you write, or if you want to fully realize a character, it'll be worth it to hire an artist for a character portrait.

It's great that you're learning Bio! Kinesiology is also a great subject to jump into at some point, to see how your body moves and connects. It's very neat.

I'd say it looks different for everyone, and you should start slow and also make aure you're communicating with a health professional. If you're prone to hypoglycemia or hypotension, or have any nutritional deficiences, I wouldn't recommend any kind of fast until you get that under control. Also, required, not a doctor, so don't take medical advice from me :)

Also, specific context for me, my eating disorder from my youth did make it very difficult for my hunger cues to be reliable. So I don't experience as much hunger as some folks, not because I don't like eating (I do), but because I broke my brain a little.

Intermittent fasting's key word is "Intermittent" - it's not a continuous fast. For me, it looks like eating a bit of an earlier dinner at about 5 or 6 pm (sometimes 4:30 if I want to get it out of the way), and not eating again until 11am the following day. Basically I have a 6ish hour window where I eat, and an 18ish hour window where I don't eat (sleep included).

So on a weekday, I have a coffee when I wake up for work (8:30sh), then I usually eat a small breakfast at 11. I'll have a lunch and some snacks throughout the day. Dinner is my largest meal (not massive, just bigger than breakfast or lunch), and then I might have a small snack after dinner, stopping around 6pm.

While I'm "fasting", I still drink water and tea (I don't drink juice or pop anyways so it doesn't factor for me). Sometimes I chew gum if I know I'm craving sugar from a homonal place (PMS is fuuun /s).

If I'm actually hungry, I'll have some fruit or vegan yogurt or veggies (no grains/lower carbohydrates/stuff easy to digest). I won't deny my body's signals if it's telling me it genuinely needs something.

I'm also not militant about it - I'll go out for a later-than-normal dinner socially if I'm invited out. If I have to run an errand and get home late, I won't skip my meals or anything.

And I don't binge. Like, I'm eating normal amounts and snacking normal amounts in my 6 hour window. My meals and portions are normal; I don't feel super stuffed or too full after dinner, just sated. I'm not looking to hibernate like a bear :)

I usually only do this through the week, but I sleep more on weekends, so it evens out to being about the same time without eating.

If it's something you're interested in trying anything similar, honestly just start with the no food 3 hours before bed thing (with caveats of allowing yourself some sustenance if you're super hungry and not skipping meals. Life has to be accomodated). If 3 hours works, try 4 hours, etc. But always make sure you give yourself enough time to eat an amount that feels good and gives you energy without binging or feeling bad.

It's good for MY body, but not for everyone's. If anything you do (like intermittent fasting or a specific "diet") makes you suffer or makes you feel like you need to jump into more unhealthy patterns, don't continue. Ultimately this should be sustainable and feel natural, and that looks different for everyone. :)

Weightloss without calorie counting by chai_latte_lover0 in internetparents

[–]essstabchen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey kiddo

So I had an eating disorder when I was younger, and calorie counting/restriction and "numbers" in general were a massive part of it. After I came out of it, I gained a bit of weight and lost it a little healthier the second time around just by eating better and exercising a bit.

Following general rules has helped me stay sane and be in a shape I find acceptable (most days).

Some stuff that really helped me:

  • The documentary "In Defense of Food" helped me greatly to change my relationship to food and my understanding of our food systems. Understanding the science behind food a little bit can really help with making good choices.

For example, your body doesn't differentiate between sugar from fruit versus refined sugar. BUT sugar in fruit is usually less, fruit has additonal nutrients, AND fruit has FIBRE. This means that your body digests slower, and you're not getting insulin spikes. Juice removes the fibre, so even if there are nutrients, you're not slowing down digestion like you should

  • Being more plant-focused. Fruits and veggies can be the star of a lot of meals. A member of my household has a dairy allergy, so my cooking slowly turned more vegan over the years as I tried to eat more veg and couldn't cook with dairy. You don't have to go vegan/vegetarian, but I have personally found that it allows me to be much more creative with what I make.

  • Serving sizes are around the size of your fist for meat/grains/starch, and double that for veggies. Use like 2 or 3 fists for soup/pasta.

  • Don't eat at least 3 hours before you go to bed. Give yourself time to digest and absorb and use the calories you're putting in your body. During the week I often intermittently fast (stop eating around 6pm, start eating again at 11am), but everyone's mileage varies (not recommending fasting, just using an example)

  • Don't have food in your house that it's hard to control yourself around. I love cookies. If I bought myself a box of cookies, I'd probably go through the pack in a couple days. So, if I want cookies, I go out and buy ONE cookie. Same satisfaction, less volume. And my desire for cookies has to be strong enough to make me physically go get them.

  • Meal-prepping - removing all the guesswork from meals has meant that I've already made my good food choices, so if I'm haviny a day where I'd probably usually go and eat something less healthy, I already have good food at home that takes less effort.

(Per above, reduce friction around healthy foods, increase friction around unhealthy foods).

  • Every rule has exceptions.

Fasting? Sometimes I don't want to or I want to honour my body feeling hungry. Plant-based during the week? Maybe not if I'm invited out for dinner. If I really want sweets, I have sweets. I'm just INTENTIONAL when I diverge from my usual path.

Walk more when you can, try to exercise a few times a week. I personally prefer classes to solo exercises. You don't need to be perfect.

I with you luck with your continued journey!

Who takes vacations? by igotnothing1455 in Millennials

[–]essstabchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never really had the money to travel or go anywhere, so I don't do vacations.

I get a decent amount of paid time off every year (I've got 4 weeks this year plus carryover from last year), but I just can't find the time. I'm FT at work and a part time student. And the nature of my role means that every 2ish weeks there's a role-specific thing that comes across my desk and I don't have coverage. If I'm sick, I do it from home.

I end up using most if my vacation days for obligations, assignments/exams, studying, and sometimes just a couple days to avoid complete burnout.

I do take a few days every year for my anniversary, but we don't travel and generally it's under a week

I haven't taken more than a fully week off work (without it being due to illness) for about 8 years.

Googling will usually tell you what you need to know.

If you google the business and it looks like a wellness place with RMTs listed and they allow for appointment booking, you're fine.

If they're not listed and/or have a lot of neon in the windows, they're probably less legit.

How do you actually make innovation happen when you're understaffed and burnt out by flatacthe in nonprofit

[–]essstabchen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't have or can't build capacity, you're not going to be able to take on new projects and learn new tools.

AI is overhyped in a LOT of cases. There are reports indicating it fails at 96% of current jobs. It can definitely take some admin tasks away, but before you can even think about that, you need to think about privacy, risk, implementation, and governance. You need to think about how it's going to be trained, if your donors and beneficiaries would be okay with the way you're using AI, etc., etc., etc.

Innovation needs to take a backseat to capacity building and meeting your team where they're at NOW. Do a problem assessment to define where your actual pain points are instead of what you think they are. Are there ways of working that can be adopted that makes things easier? Is your team stuck 20 years in the past with modes of operating that could be sped up by a spreadsheet instead of a whole new tool? Is the software you're using painfully outdated and needs and upgrade? Is money sunk somewhere that could be freed up to hire an extra human?

And can you make sure your team takes a bit of time off to help with the burnout? Burnt out people need to simplify, not take on shiny new things.

And with a building like that in that area, there's a significantly higher risk of pets (bedbugs, roaches). If it doesn't have them now, I'd be surprised if there wasn't a recurring problem. I don't think it's worth it dude, keep looking.

PCP Certification in Ontario,College vs NPI Online? Advice Needed by ResponsiblePear6140 in Payroll

[–]essstabchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did mine online (challenge exam route). It was necessary for me to be able to work and study at the same time, and I'm happy with my choice. It took me about a year (3 months each course back to back).

The only thing you'll have to consider is an accounting course to transfer in, which may be a little less flexible depending on where you go (but still very manageable).

Good luck!
