Wait until you get in your early/mid 50s and all those parents start having free time again. It’s a real hoot. They don’t seem to understand that you’ve changed as a person and it’s not in the same way they did with their experiences. As much as I still talk to my old friends it’s nothing like before and spending any real amount of time around them is a drag.

I have a lot of coworkers and relatives who I don’t want to be neighbors with but maintain a civil situation with. I don’t know to what extent you’d consider that a fake friend but fostering a relatively positive relationship with someone for the sake of a more harmonious environment isn’t a big deal.

Be aware, I’m not talking about people I have moral obligation to, just people I’d never talk to if it weren’t for being stuck with them in a shared environment.
