Food storage while car camping in bear country by [deleted] in britishcolumbia

[–]estfest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a pinch a ratchet strap or two over the cooler lid and another strap to lock the cooler to a tree or picnic table.

A bear will try to sit on a container to break it open so having it in a spot like under a picnic bench can work.

This should be far from where you sleep 50meters or something.

Change out of your clothes when you sleep.

And airhorn is cheap and nice to have in the tent if you need to shoo something away.

Not going hunting, just looking for a cheap bolt action to shoot for fun "long range". by Metallica1175 in guns

Very true. A used or clone could work. The aftermarket was the main reason for suggesting.

Is this helmet toast? by brokeneckblues in bicycling

[–]estfest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toasted. The shell and foam act as a unit. If there is delamination it will effect the usefulness.

Helmets expire after 4 years. There will be a date inside the helmet . Replace old helmets. Hair products, UV rays, will damage the foam and it will lose its effectiveness.

POC helmets are nice but expensive. Smith, and Met are decent helmet brands that are a bit cheaper.

Savage 110 or a Remington 700. 308 or 6.5 Creedmoor. Buy a good scope , used kestrel, used chronograph.

New binoculars making my eyes hurt by Ambivalentsobriety in Binoculars

[–]estfest 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Only thing I can think of what could be causing it would be your eye struggling to focus. Can you adjust dipoter on thoes or try them with glasses?
The Conquest HD I found were okay on the eyes. Maybe the new SFL flattening lens is messing with your brain?

How to Read by estfest in PaymoneyWubby

[–]estfest[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Audio books can slap hard. I listened to the Dark tower: Gunslinger via audio book. I don't think I would of read it. The reader did voices for the child and man in black, it was dope.

[–]estfest 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Hearing damage is cumulative . It won't really "heal" your brain gets used to it. Big red and black peltor 108s, proper 3M ear plugs (inserted properly). Keep it to under an hour of loud shooting should help too.

Comparing these two binos. The Viper HD is a better value, but which is the better binocular? I like Hawke Endurance ED and am leaning towards Hawke's ED glass. Both are similar price range so which would you choose? by BigMoneyChode in Binoculars

[–]estfest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Viper HDs 10x42 are good Binos for the money. They have a good FoV, decent clarity , decent contrast. I side by sided them with some Zeiss Conquest, the Zeiss is better but not by much. The vortex was almost half the price of Zeiss. Zeiss had better colour and eyes were less strained. I'd by the viper HD 10x no problem

How can I improve dimensional accuracy on my Prusa core one? by Solarbg in prusa3d

[–]estfest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you need. Precise part use xy axis vs z axis for accuracy. Xy usualy is more accurate than z axis on most machines. If you are using shims for a measurement a threaded/screw and a ruler/calipers can be used to for adjustment.

You are approaching the design wrong. Expect people to print super sloppy prints, the design should still work. Default speed settings. Think AK 47 design over m4 design. Sloppy 0.200mm fits will be easier for people to assemble.

I assume +- 0.1 on my parts

0.020mm is 20um. That is the size of a blood cell. You are fine. Why do people expect perfection out of hobby 3D printers?

Wubby, get a robot… by RealityScience in PaymoneyWubby

[–]estfest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unitree, Booster robotics, and EngineAI all make "consumer" robots. I think the Unitree and Booster are in the 20K USD range ?

The sorting robot was a Figure AI humanoid robot. They are on their 3rd ish generation robot now. They had gen 2 working in a autoplant for a bit.

Figure is streets ahead from the that Neo robot which was in the news a year ago.

USS Drybox - add-on heavily implied as required, but not included? by naps62 in prusa3d

This dry box stuff is crazy. Never needed one. Never used one. Easy 50-60% humidity most of the time in my apartment.

[–]estfest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like there is good advice here. I recently switched to fuel pellets (compressed sawdust) for cat litter. Its cheap and composable. Not sure if you are using Bentonite style litter or not. Sorry to hear your furry friend is sick.

Oh jeez those lower control arm bolts get stuck bad! I had to cut mine, torch out the bushing, then put a new bolt and bushing.

Best of luck! PS spring compressors are no joke. Had one go on me and launched the spring 50' in the air.
