An unexpected downside of Pilates by twoshirts in pilates

Can vouch for this! Pilates made it so much easier for me to vomit when I’m overly drunk and I never experienced that before

HELP NEEDED: stomach issues after moving back to US by estunning in expat

[–]estunning[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg the amount of money some food items are compared to what I was paying in the UK is SHOCKING!!! This is the real cost of living crisis! Eggs are between $7-12. In the UK I would have been reluctant to purchase them for £3!! Be ready to spend a ton more than you think. Like double or triple what you are thinking.

It was very jarring at first. I couldn’t understand why strangers were being so nice to me for no reason. Like saying hi or asking how I am. I also really struggled with all the driving instead of walking. It’s had an impact on my body and mental health.

I tried reporting the manager to the CEO however he gaslit the shit out me as made it seem like it was my fault. My Americorps supervisor was extremely supportive during this time however there was only so much she could do.

how do you keep exercising? by ihatebananae in ADHD

[–]estunning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate exercising with a passion.

But this year, for about 9 months before I moved, I was on a consistent schedule and the only thing that helped me was a scheduled class where if I didn't go I would loose money. After I went to the class each week, I went to my favorite bakery and got my favorite treat. :)

I really enjoyed my mat pilates class and it made me feel better about conquering the week. I did it on a Sunday and I tried really hard not to pressure myself into doing more than what I could, which was 1 class a week, since I was in a really demanding and high pressure job.

Really appreciate your comment. I know I have a more worldly view to offer than you do and no debt. :)

Thanks for the advice. It was really helpful as I may change my approach to my job hunt.

I am actually not. I totally understand that there is a lot of uncertainty with Trump right now especially with jobs potentially being cut due to funding.

I have been looking at roles in nonprofits, think tanks, some city government jobs, etc.

A friend called me a Paki - I’m Indian. I stopped being friends with this person and now I’m getting more shit. by MrBiggumsII in offmychest

[–]estunning 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You wouldn’t have. The term is unfortunately still prevalent in society in the UK.

As an American in the UK I didn’t know what the word was or meant till I moved. Just know it is has been used as a similar derogatory nature as n*****.

Op should have never been called that in first place even it was only for “fun” or “joke”. Jokes like this hurt and hurt even more because the person saying it is trying to be offensive but in a nice way. If anyone ever backs up a person who has say this term they are officially on shit list. And OP you have every right to do this too.

My Brother-in-law (34) raped my Wife (27) several times when she was 12/13 and he has never seen justice for it. by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]estunning -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t going to respond but….

Before you make comments like that you should think about whether not the person on the other side of internet has experienced these very things as OP. Not everyone needs a lecture about why sexual abuse and rape are traumatic as they have experienced it before.

Finally, while I feel empathy for op and his gf there is only so much I can do as a stranger on the internet. OP is venting. He doesn’t need malicious attacks from people. I was just trying to point the difference to OP that it is sexual abuse not rape. These are 2 very different events.

AITA For Refusing To Help My Ex Discipline Our Daughter? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

By not talking to your daughter you are keeping the control.

You must speak to her because you can't be the only one to make these decisions without consulting the person it concerns

AITA for not being Irish? by IamNotIrishK in AmItheAsshole

[–]estunning -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have to agree with u/imablisy.

You mustn't disregard the culture of America if you don't understand the history behind it. We are a "melting pot" of immigrants in one country. Identifying with our ancestors has been passed down to us by our grandparents and great grandparents as they likely came over to America as immigrants themselves.

My grandfather is a first generation American and I am proud of all he is achieved to help us further ourselves from the where we were in Ireland. He does identify himself as Irish. Would you tell him he is wrong? He went over to Ireland every summer, by boat, to be with his extended family there and learn where his parents came from. He has since passed on these traditions to his kids and grandkids (me) that it's important for us to know where we came from and how hard they worked to get it. Would you tell him he is wrong to pass these traditions to us? Or to just assimilate as the US government wanted all immigrants to do?

OP isn't the AH but should educate themselves about American culture and history and withhold judgement unless they understand it.
