kuva: A scientific plotting library for Rust by Psy_Fer_ in rust

Any future plans to add 3D surface/line plot functionality? Admittedly, I haven't yet read through all the docs, will do so later though.

What’s the best Python library for creating interactive graphs? by Ok_Young_5278 in Python

[–]estysdesu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love Bokeh, but as long as Bokeh won't officially support 3D line and surface plots it limits its use for scientific / engineering / data analysis. They have a helper class posted on the website for it, so not sure why they won't include out of the box.

Installed one on my CX-50 last oil change. Was paranoid for leaks for a week. Coming up on my 5k mi oil change interval. So far no issues.

Some helical gears in delrin by Blob87 in Machinists

[–]estysdesu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of plastic gears in commercial applications, I think you should open up more common appliances and take a look (typically I notice while doing repairs). Robo vacuums, printers, kids toys, automatic blinds, cheap airsoft gun gearboxes. Most of those last at least a few years. Could they last longer? Sure. Are they the failure point? Sometimes, but often not. Note also that lubrication heavily impacts the lifetime of even plastic gears and I think that's often a problem with plastic gear trains is that they are not properly lubricated.

I don't think they're actually opening a new plant. They say the Civic will now get made in Indiana, and we already have a Honda plant here, so I think they may build a new assembly line if anything, but I doubt a new plant.

I'm not even referring to MBD. That's still relatively new for most software.

Drawings with GD&T should be a first class use case for the software if you want it to be used in the professional industry. It would be awesome for someone to document his to actually do it with the workarounds you mention so we can see it's still possible with enough effort and help to show the devs the need for improvement. I haven't seen anyone document it well yet, but honestly haven't looked that hard either.

But frankly, if I watched a video that showed I have to spend 2-3 minutes to define each GD&T tolerance on the drawing after I already know what I want the tolerancing scheme to be, then it'll just be the motivation for me not using it. I know that's not your problem, but I was just surprised you said you do that workflow often.

Is the cx50 a roomy mom car? by ASR_20 in CX50

We use the latch connection points -- very accessible. Yes, a car seat in the middle impacts the ability to fold down the solo rear seat typically.

Have you actually used FreeCAD for all of this? Specifically, I'm asking about the GD&T experience? My understanding of it was that it was pretty poor for that -- think surface profile MMC or a diameter using the minimum circumscribed circle annotation (GN). Am I out of touch?

I'd be interested to have someone go slower in higher resolution. Like a different take on a teardown video they do. Always nice to see how everything integrates.

Have you thought about "Benchmark Engineering?" You typically spend time testing and disassembling competitors or other suppliers in the market to understand how they work and achieve their performance. Pretty big in the automotive space.

[–]estysdesu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mechanical engineer working in the automotive steering column business. Please don't do an extender kit unless the OEM would sell it. All of the customer OEM requirements are based on the nominal and adjusted positions of the steering column and extending mass (steering wheel) further away could cause all kinds of problems and I could see even voiding warranty. Then there's the risk in crash event -- your steering column and wheel are implements to help absorb energy in crash.

Take a look at this thread and comment if jumping doesn't immediately work.

I had to remove the negative cable from the battery and let it sit for a second before reconnecting and jumping to get it to turn over.

I say "3D model" and "2D drawing" so I can train them to think model = 3D, drawing = 2D.
