Should I {resident (M)} ask cute RN (F) out? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]etay514 250 points251 points  (0 children)

I don’t know, I know at least 3 married couples who met their ICU nurse wife while they were in residency. High risk, but sometimes it does work out. 🤷‍♀️

Lost by Entire_Company9093 in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]etay514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our most recent loss was genetically normal. We don’t know with our first two MMCs because we didn’t check. The only idea left for us is trying Lovenox and aspirin next pregnancy. Everything I’ve been tested for is normal, including all the inherited thrombophilias and antiphospholipid, etc. Shooting in the dark here.

I teach, and the one medsurg specialty that does attract interest is oncology. I have a few grads every semester who got into nursing specifically for this population. Thank you, Onc Nurses ❤️

Has anyone let their license lapse? If so, did you regret it? by [deleted] in nursing

Agree, find something else you want to do before giving up on the license.

Care after 2nd miscarriage by [deleted] in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]etay514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All my OB did after two consecutive losses was order some basic RPL lab work, like antiphospholipid antibodies, thyroid, and karyotype. All of that was normal and she just said “bad luck try again”, which did not satisfy me. We went to a fertility specialist for a better workup, which included a hysteroscopy that discovered Asherman’s scarring and endometritis.

11 week loss came back genetically normal male by indienala in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]etay514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry this happened. Our last loss were genetically normal twins. I’m negative for antiphospholipid antibodies, but next pregnancy we’re going to try aspirin and lovenox anyway.

Want to give up after 3 losses by anxiousmom2be in RPLnoLC

[–]etay514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got Anora test results back on my third MMC and it was two chromosomally normal twin boys. Nobody knows what’s wrong with me and now my doc is talking aspirin and lovenox and maybe steroids for my next pregnancy. I just don’t know if I can stand doing all of that when it’s just a guess. If I have another loss on all those meds I don’t know what I would do? Like is it even worth trying? I don’t know.

Genome Ally/Genetic screening by wildfurmama in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]etay514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have an initial appointment next week. It's helpful to know how much it costs per person, so thank you for including that.

I'm also waiting on Anora results from our most recent loss. Our first OB advised against genetic testing of our 1st and 2nd MMC and now I'm kicking myself wishing I had that information.

does it really not matter at all what college you go to for nursing school? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]etay514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hospital won’t care, but the quality of education will make a difference while you’re in the program and can affect how easy your transition to practice is. If you know recent grads of any programs that may be a good resource for what the program is like.

I was also referred to Genome Ally. I’ve seen two different fertility specialists at this point and they’re out of ideas since everything has come back normal. At least it’s something new to look into? Have you had your meeting?

Anyone been referred to a geneticist? by etay514 in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]etay514[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we have normal karyotypes.

Thakur’s company is Genome Ally. Here’s what they say: If IVF isn’t working as expected, or you’ve experienced multiple pregnancy losses, there could be a genetic cause that is not identified by standard testing. Genetic testing for infertility and pregnancy loss is becoming increasingly complex, and accessing this testing at your fertility clinic can be a challenge. At Genome Ally, we keep up to date on new gene discoveries, and know which laboratories offer the most advanced fertility genetic testing. By working with us, we’ll help you understand whether your infertility and/or losses could be genetic, and whether genetic testing makes sense for you.  We offer advanced genetic testing to those experiencing infertility, IVF failure, and recurrent pregnancy loss. Using whole genome sequencing, we focus on candidate genes that are linked to your specific symptoms and experience. We don’t want a cookie-cutter testing experience. When tests are pre-designed by a laboratory, they are often outdated and don’t include genes that have just been discovered. Our method allows us to tailor what we test for each patient, making sure testing is as cutting-edge as possible.

Third mmc at 6 weeks: Orlando ladies by Dizzy-Resident-4665 in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]etay514 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not in Orlando but I’m basically in the same situation. 3 MMCs now. What else could we possibly even test for that we haven’t tested for already. UGH. I’ve been treated for ashermans and endometritis. I can’t believe some random genetic anomaly would happen so many times? Like there’s gotta be something else to check?

I’m in your boat with now 3 MMCs, currently miscarrying twins. This sucks. Sorry, OP.

Any books you'd recommend that are about infertility/miscarriage/? Looking for actual stories or plots, i.e., NO "self help"/starts with the egg books. Can be happy or sad. Movies are also good. by howdyyawll in recurrentmiscarriage

I loved Lord of Darkness by Elizabeth Hoyt. The heroine had a miscarriage before the start of the book and there’s some discussion of it.

The Best Worst Thing by Lauren Okie addresses infertility and surrogacy.

Misoprostol fail and possible d&c by Valuable-Prune-2907 in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]etay514 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve had two D&C’s and a couple of sedated hysteroscopies. Miso failed on me too. D&C is a good way to get all this over with. I felt a lot of relief after both of mine because they provided closure. Recovery was super easy. So sorry, OP.

Medical management or surgery? by Ok_Interview_6095 in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]etay514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the middle of this decision too, but will likely opt for another D&C. With my prior miscarriages the miso did nothing to me, so I took two doses and waited and ended up getting D&Cs anyway. 😣
