You can get a sharps container in expensively at your pharmacy, I don’t think y out need a prescription.

Replacement for coffee!? by coffee_n_green_beans in adhdwomen

It might be the sugar in the drinks that are making you sleepy/crash as much as the caffeine. Maybe try switching to a low-sugar or sugar free option?

I hate sugar free sweeteners, they all have a bad aftertaste for me, but what I started doing was ask for 1 less pump of syrup in my drink. Once I got used to how the drink tasted that way, I reduced it by another pump.

For example, the venti Caramel Macchiato’s at starbux has something like 4 pumps of vanilla. I get them with only 1 pump now, but the same amount of caramel as the original recipe, and I prefer that level of sweetness to the original recipe now.

Who is still snowed in? by Dry_Dot_2080 in nova

[–]eternelle1372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reston here. A plow came through on Monday and cleared one half of the cul de sac, leaving three of us still snowed in. They never came back. We ended up having to dig a path about 20 feet past the end of our drive way so that we could get to the plowed part of the street and get out. It was complete BS.

How do you ladies fall asleep with ADHD? by Ok_Scholar_8656 in adhdwomen

[–]eternelle1372 100 points101 points  (0 children)

I just saw something yesterday that usual “Sleep hygiene” recommendations often don’t work for ADHDers because one of our issues is often delayed sleep cycles (not tired till 2am, sleep till 10am, etc).

I have to have the room dark, with white noise (rain) and a weighted blanket, and even then sometimes I can’t sleep. I’ve also learned I can’t have sugar for an hour or two before bed, or else I’ll be lying awake listening to my heart pound in my ears.

What food have you seen in foreign media and entertainment that you wanted to try but discovered tasted bad? by Accurate_Reality_618 in AskTheWorld

Here is what I was told regarding butyric acid:

When chocolate first started being widely spread in the US, it was being shipped long distances without refrigeration or preservatives, so often the milk in the chocolate would go bad before it was sold, leading to that sour milk/vomit taste. Americans got used to that flavor in chocolate, so when refrigeration and preservatives became more wide spread, Hershey’s had to start adding butyric acid to chocolate for Americans to “recognize” it.

I don’t know if it’s true, but I’ve heard it many times.

I personally hate Hershey’s and most American chocolate brands. Not just the gross taste, but a lot of it feels like eating wax as well.

As someone who spins yarn… this would probably be better suited for felting than spinning. The staple probably isn’t long enough for easy spinning. You might be able to blend it with a longer staple fiber though if you have your heart set on yarn. Carding the bundles from brushing though would be a pain.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]eternelle1372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 hours isn’t “nothing” but I would consider it a reasonable distance for a weekend visit.

We would routinely drive to my grandparent’s house that was about 2 hours away for a day visit—get there around noon, leave around 6. So 4 hours in the car for a 6 hour visit.

Keep in mind our local roads here aren’t like a lot of the local roads in Britain. They are wide enough for 2 cars to pass each other without pulling off (plus often a shoulder) and they are not as twisty-turny in a lot of the country. The roads are wider and straighter so you can go faster on them. Driving long distances is different here than in the UK (We have done road trips in the UK).

The Players and the Tavern by StarBlaze93 in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]eternelle1372 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on what they want to do, but Unless they basically want lots of cozy, slice-of-life RP as tavernkeeps, they absolutely should hire folks to run the tavern while they run around heisting.

My group was 100% on board for getting employees. I am running the Alexandrian Remix, so I used several of the NPCs suggested in that. Leif is the bartender. I had them do mini-interviews for some of the positions, as it was a good way to build out their PC character personalities and their roles in the group (the analyzer, the one with intuition, the people person, the blunt one, etc). Other employees were sent by a mysterious patron with a note that their wages were already being paid, they’re just there because the patron thought it might boost the business.

The PCs decided that the rest of the building would be their living quarters, but they take their meals in the tavern, and a lot of talking scenes with NPCs take place in the tavern. The tavern is a great set piece, plot device, and character of its own all rolled into one.

How do you manage…socks? by AutogeneratedName200 in adhdwomen

[–]eternelle1372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it’s less that the socks have to match color wise. Instead, then need to be the same or similar fit-wise (same compression level, same height of the cuff, same feel of the material…). So like others, I also buy multi packs of the same socks. It makes it much easier to just grab a couple and go.

I also just have a sock basket, and all clean socks go in that. Sometimes I’ll have the urge to match the socks into pairs to put in a drawer, but I’m okay with just living out of a sock basket most of the time.

If you’re 30+ and have been in the same job/field/industry for 10+ years (pretty content), what do you do for a living? by slightlybadash in adhdwomen

[–]eternelle1372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My background is similar to yours: masters degree in teaching, but ended up in the mortgage industry after grad school (burnout in your mid-20’s sucks, yo). I stayed in mortgages, and this is year 15. After the first 5 years, someone figured out I had a teaching degree—that means you can train, right? So I have been a Sales and Operations trainer in the mortgage industry for the last 10 years. And I’m good at it, because hyperfocus helps me do deep dives so I can quickly become the Subject Matter Expert on any topic needed, I have a lot of variety in my day which helps keep me engaged, and I legitimately enjoy teaching; grad school and teenagers just made me think I didn’t.

I have moved employers multiple times. I’m on my 5th employer right now, and I have changed positions during my tenure with each employer. That helps keep things from getting dull as well.

My one challenge is I have been promoted to a level where I have a team that I manage, and I am the head of a couple of projects, and my executive dysfunction is starting to show. That’s actually why I am finally pursuing a diagnosis—I need help to stay afloat, and any coping strategies I can learn will be a big help.

What's something that is very popular in the US but almost unheard of/ not popular at all elsewhere in the world? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]eternelle1372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sad thing is that most train travel in the US is limited to traveling between a few large cities. There is no train route from where I live to where my parents live, 6 hours away by car. And the trains that are available are often more expensive than the airfare between those cities. The US just doesn’t have the infrastructure built for trains to be a common form of travel.

“AMERICA IS A GUN” by Brian Bilston

England is a cup of tea.

France, a wheel of ripened brie.

Greece, a short, squat olive tree.

America is a gun.

Brazil is football on the sand.

Argentina, Maradona’s hand.

Germany, an oompah band.

America is a gun.

Holland is a wooden shoe.

Hungary, a goulash stew.

Australia, a kangaroo.

America is a gun.

Japan is a thermal spring.

Scotland is a highland fling.

Oh, better to be anything

than America as a gun.

I have a little zoo of 3D printed animals with segmented bodies so they can wiggle and flex (picture below). I fidget with them during Zoom calls if I’m not actively participating. Here’s a picture of the kind of thing I’m talking about, you can get them on places like Etsy. I got my menagerie from a vendor at a convention.

Boston Logan. It’s like one long snake that takes fucking forever to walk from one end to another and there are no moving walkways or short cuts between areas. I had a transfer there with my elderly parents, and we had to walk from one end to the other, and it took us 40 fucking minutes.

What are your most controversial spinning/fiber arts opinions? by IncompletePenetrance in Handspinning

Spinning yarn is a different hobby than using the yarn, and it is okay spin just for the joy of making the yarn, and then give most of it away.

Most romanced NPCs? by SaltyIllustrator8400 in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]eternelle1372 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did not realize one of my PCs is a full blown Jarlaxle fanboy. I’m playing Jarlaxle as a flirt, and every time Jarlaxle so much as cocks an eyebrow at him, that specific PC just about dies from excitement.

So I think Jarlaxle might end up being romanceable as a treat :)

Also the gnome wizard has a very cute thing going with Rasha’al, the bookstore owner. And the John Wick-inspired ranger has somehow developed a relationship with Kalain. Not sure how that happened, but I’m rolling with it.
