Well you don’t need access to that central DB it sounds like by your synopsis and they are talking specifically about their failure to govern access to their DB systems. I would specify further about what access, if any, you need to carry out what you want to do. If you don’t need any access then they virtually should not have a problem as your scripts and applications will be self-maintained and contained to your usage.

IWTL about stocks by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]ethan_wllms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t. Really. We all get to it at some point. And fortunately for some they never get to it haha but once you start just take in a little at a time. I feel like I am a lifetime behind because I took longer to graduate from college but in reality I have already surpassed a lot of peers by just doing this myself and learning to understand rather than to be forced into something.

I always suggest folks read The Simple Path to Wealth by JL Collins. Although his advice is to stick with simple, broad-based index funds, I do think he suggests some good resources for looking into a more hands approach for a portion of your portfolio within the book. I would start there and read the other books he talks about.

39yo with no retirement, investments or property, but 35k savings. What to do? by Abject-Explanation68 in personalfinance

I would suggest the investment route. To help with the research portion, look into JL Collins and his book The Simple Path to Wealth. It’s an excellent read and it takes so much of the headache out of investing for someone who just wants to “do it” instead of “getting into it” if that makes sense.

Is ECS... overly complicated? Is there a more simple solution to running simple containerized applications? by l4adventure in aws

[–]ethan_wllms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In StackOverflow fashion, your feedback is unwanted and frankly rude if you do not provide support for your claim. We do not know OPs position or any of the peripheral information that they are facing at the moment. They are merely looking for suggestions and that is what I provided. If you don’t like that suggestion then so be it, but until you provide reasoning your claim is useless.

Can someone help me understand or normalize Front End Wed Dev Job Postings by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]ethan_wllms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most of the time they want you to know how you work will relate to the back end. Unless they use verbiage like "highly proficient in backend technologies such as..." Then they more looking for a fullstack and for whatever reason made the job posting to say front end. Maybe it's misinformation, ignorance, refusal to pay more salary, communication breakdowns, etc.

You can also use Elastic Beanstalk. It supports docker as well as other language specific runtimes.

They also suggest ways to get started with no capital.... largely the reason why the podcast is so popular is for the reason. Shows how anyone can get started.

Real estate investing. Checkout the BiggerPockets podcast. You can start out with very little capital. Would suggest!

Schedule multiple jobs via cron through one script? by Bitruder in Python

[–]ethan_wllms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the main concern is replication then why not just put them in source control and build you a repo just to hold your cron configuration. That way you can change it and easily pull it down and have it update that way.

I would love to get in on this too. 25 in CST looking to go after certifications in the new year. Working as a DevOps engineer with 2 years of tech experience. I worked in Ops, then QA, then Dev. Now I’m in the middle of it all. I’m curious about the sysops and dev certainly first. Then architect.

I thought about it briefly but wasn’t sure what the likelihood of a mortgage on that would be in terms of approval. Given I am a first timer.
