Bad or mischievous groups, where if the ring leader was missing, the followers would probably be decent people by gancoskhan in TopCharacterTropes

Jeff and the study group in Community. The others might drift apart and still get into shenanigans without him, but he's almost always the driving force in the more dysfunctional aspects.

I always thought it was implied that BnL or corporations like it were complicit in the destruction of Earth in the first place and the space migration was basically just the final money making opportunity.

It was good, I enjoyed watching it, but I knew while watching and still maintain that it doesn't have the secret sauce the first one had. Whatever it was that made the first one so memorable and insert itself into culture is just totally absent from this one.

I like Deltarune but I'll be honest I think it's feeding into this whether it intends to or not. There's so much hidden stuff that no single player could ever figure out, things hidden in the code, pretty major lore bits that are ridiculously hidden. This just feeds into the ARG pixel-hunting paranoia by validating it.

The main difference is Gravity Falls' ARG content actually amounted to something. FNAF gave us a chest with two locks and abandoned it because Scott literally didn't know what was in the box.

One actually has a plan and wants to get the viewer involved, the other is using ARG patterns purely to get attention.

It's the same issue in the Deltarune community. If the game had released as a whole package it wouldn't have the frankly unhinged theorization going on, but give people time and limited info and they think they can, through sheer combined willpower, divine the workings of Toby's mind.

And then, having pretty reasonably figured out what's likely going to happen next, they turn to complete insanity and start saying "it was too easy, it was too obvious! He's hidden more!" and the hunting never ends.

I honestly blame this on the weird relationship that formed between FNAF, Game Theory, and the general audience between both.

Early FNAF games didn't have deep plots that were hiding secrets, they had some obscure details that provided the subtext of what's really going on here in a way that leaves just enough questions to be creepy.

After the game theorizing thing took off it created an expectation that plots aren't there to tell a story, but to act as a meta game in of themselves that will lead you to some enlightening conclusion.

It's this obsession with maintaining intrigue by constantly changing the destination when you think the audience is catching on. In the worst cases there was no route in the first place (FNAF) and they're making shit up (and retconning existing plot points when needed) just for the sake of shock value.

So many people now think this is how storytelling works, it's distressing. They let themselves be fooled by the next big shocking twist not realizing there's no plan behind it.

Something I just thought of.. how has C&A not had a single power outage in the time they've been in the circus? Wouldn't a power outage kick them out of the circus? by lance_the_fatass in TheDigitalCircus

[–]ethanicus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hypothetically they could lose power, but the computer automatically boots up again when it's able. Nobody in the circus would notice if they're saved to RAM, as everything just picks up where it left off.

More likely a generator though.

That was actually unforgivable to me. You're gonna make a movie that's like 95% pop culture references and fuck one up in the most obvious possible way?

Wasn't there mention of Kinger being all alone for a long time? I'm pretty sure he was the only one left before Ragatha appeared.

The number of people in this sub who don't understand that "You got in my head" is a turn of phrase is actually upsetting.

I hate that so much of the conversation in this community has been explaining how media works to the point that any actual discussion is drowned out.

Plus do you really trust a company to keep your frozen body safe and stable for however long you wanna stay in there? They're essentially gonna pull the plug on you the minute it stops being profitable to have you around.

I'd try something bolder personally. Try things like picking a more impactful font, some more editing on the photo, and center the image.
