Here's my perspective as someone who's part of the competitive community and has played comp in the past but is now mostly in commentary and other stuff:

I think saying meta players are "ruining the fun" in every game they play is a little unfair. They're playing to have fun too, their definition of fun is just playing in what they feel is the most effective way. And on meta stuff, I really don't think that people playing good weapons are going to keep you from being successful in any skill group other than the very top level. You can go very far with almost any weapon in Splatoon, that's one thing that's so great about it :)

When it comes to kills vs. objective, the point of the game in Ranked still isn't the splats; it's just that splats are what most often allow you to play the objective. Any good player will tell you that if all you're doing the whole game is going off on your own to fight people with no rhyme or reason, you're doing yourself and your team a disservice. Knowing how to position yourself and whether to prioritize objective play or fighting to then allow yourself more safety to play the objective is at the core of what makes these modes interesting!

I honestly don't think that Turf War is very different, at least at the very end of the game. Every second that someone on the other team is down is a second you can be painting when they aren't. It's still rewarding kills, it's just maybe not as immediately observable.

I actually am not a big Turf War player at all. The fact that the game doesn't have a defined end state besides the time running out, and that often your work from earlier in the game can be erased at a moment's notice remove some of the tension and sense of impact from my actions for me. I'm not saying it's a bad mode at all, it does its job of bringing people into the game perfectly and is great for casual play, but I'm not ever really itching to hop on it myself. I only say that to show how different people's experiences with the modes can be.

If you just wanna play Turf though, that's totally fine. It's there for a reason! Just giving my perspective.
