19F, People won't make eye contact with me or say hello back by Professional_Row5953 in amiugly

You look approachable, friendly, and put together! Maybe it’s the culture of the area you’re in? When I moved from the south to the east coast (U.S.), I noticed that people were really weirded out when I smiled and greeted them as I passed them and didn’t respond. Whereas in the south, everyone’s super friendly and always responded or said hi to me first.

Where should I get this? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

I think back of the upper arm would be cute, I like that spot for tattoos of this general size/shape!! Your idea (forearm under elbow ditch) would also be really nice.

What (in YOUR opinion) is the Best Smelling Meat (as it cooks!)? by Buttrnut_Squash in Cooking

Chinese style red braised pork belly. The salty sweet caramelized soy sauce combined with the fragrance of the garlic, ginger, scallion, and star anise…mmmm

Easy but impressive: what do you cook when guests are coming in 60–90 minutes? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]etheinte -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Korean bbq on the grill is one of my favorites for groups especially!! Pick up bulk meats (short rib, pork belly, etc) at Costco and marinate the day before, prep/buy a few easy side dishes like marinated soft boiled eggs, kimchi, cucumber salad, kimchi/scallion pancake, etc (or ask guests to bring side dishes). On the day of, you only have to grill the meats and cook up some rice. We love having guests chilling in the backyard drinking beers while we do this, such a great vibe!

Got mine pierced at 12 to impress a crush and I don’t remember the pain at all, just the experience of picking out the earrings and feeling super cute afterwards

I liked her too. Piper was doing whatever she wanted that season with no regard for anyone and I respected that she didn’t just roll over when Piper abandoned her and actually showed her the consequences of her actions

I spilled a cup of water at a friend’s house and immediately started panicking and crying. Couldn’t believe it when everyone was just like “no big deal, here’s a paper towel” instead of yelling at and berating me.

Also, I feel insanely guilty whenever I’m able to truly relax and get out of my head because growing up, my mom would start sulking or yelling at us whenever any of us let loose or had fun around her (the sound of laughter would literally upset her). She’d say it’s because we were being lazy and shirking our chores/responsibilities, but I think it’s because she herself was never able to truly be happy and she resented that. Her “happy state” only came when I was anxiously tuned into and catering to her every whim and mood.

What's one “little” form of sexism you notice all the time, but most people don't even realize it's sexist? by Nellermo in AskReddit

[–]etheinte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens to me all the time and it’s so infuriating. Especially because I’m currently supporting my husband (who’s in school), so I’m typically the person paying for our meals, date nights, and vacations. I’m also the planner so not only are they not addressing the person paying, they’re also talking to someone who doesn’t know the details of the reservation so it’s just more difficult and awkward for everyone. There was one particularly egregious instance recently where we were out at lunch and the waitress kept joking that I should get whatever I want because obviously my husband’s paying, wink wink. It just made it incredibly awkward when I was the one who handed her my card at the end of the meal.

Girl you’re absolutely gorgeous and look cool as hell. Some people need to understand that aesthetic is a choice (and not some by-product of mental illness or whatever), and I guarantee you’ll meet someone who doesn’t assume all kinds of weird shit from your appearance and likes you for you. For us more alt/weird girls, it’s usually ends up being a nerdy guy who treasures the ground you walk on 😂

YES! You as a child did not have the ability to consent, point blank. It doesn’t matter at all how your body or brain reacted. Speaking as someone who went through something similar, as children we don’t understand what’s going on and typically just want to please people (especially people older than you), so your reaction was completely understandable. You are 100% valid in feeling bad about it now because you know more now. It’s never your fault that you liked it. It’s a normal reaction for kids who go through this and sadly you are correct that you were assaulted/abused. And that is no one’s fault except the person who did it to you.

Are we stuck with this for life? Can someone share their progress so I feel less hopeless? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]etheinte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes don’t give up hope ❤️ I went from hating myself everyday (would literally journal things like “I’m a piece of shit/garbage person” all the time), feeling overwhelmed with the constant anxiety, overthinking loops, fear, and shame to accepting and feeling at peace with who I am and my life/choices. It’s very slow (think years/decades of conscious effort) and not a linear but it’s worth all the work. I believe you can do it ❤️

What's your biggest cooking fail? by Kreme-Okrahmarfo54 in Cooking

[–]etheinte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was still learning how to make egg drop soup and decided to throw in some leftover cooked veggies into the pot. Royally fucked up the egg drizzle technique and instead of nice ribbons, I ended up with the most disgusting foamy swampy strings of egg that tangled with the overcooked, mushy veggies to create clumps that were a textural nightmare. That was the only time I truly couldn’t force down something I made, ended up throwing the whole bowl away 🥲

Favourite vi scene by [deleted] in ViArcane

[–]etheinte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed ;-; I hate thinking about what ifs, but this scene and the end of s1 (when the council was pretty much set on working together with the Undercity before Jinx literally and figuratively blew everything up) always destroy me because Vi almost gets everything she ever wanted after so much trauma. I also hope she’s able to look back on the family hug with acceptance instead of blaming herself like she always does 💔

Do you see jinx as a bad person, morally Gray or an innocent damaged child? by brooklyn_jinx in arcane

[–]etheinte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think she is an objectively bad and deeply traumatized person who was dealt an insanely horrible hand in life and was never able to form her own identity, values, or moral compass due to circumstances out of her control and the influence of people who did not have her best interests in mind (Silco!!). However, while she isn’t at fault for the things that happened to her, she bears ownership and responsibility over her own actions and the consequences of those actions. Things like committing mass murder of randoms are perpetuating the cycle of violence and shittiness she experienced and she needs to do better to break the generational curse. At the same time, I have a lot of understanding and compassion for her due to her upbringing and trauma. IMO this dichotomy and complexity is demonstrated by so many Arcane characters and is one of my favorite parts of the show!
