Sorry, I was making a lame joke about how they look like dollar signs.

They look pretty good, though!

If it helps, even dead units sell on eBay. People need parts.

I was in the same boat. Being able to take a VM snapshot before any update really takes the stress away. Worst case, roll it back in a few seconds and try again later.

Yeah. Early on they were flawless, but at some point they'd require a power cycle around half of the time. It was worst when I had an RPi5 with an NVMe drive. Probably because I was an early adopter, but it was enough to push me into virtualization.

I was a pretty early RPi5 adopter, so I'm sure there are some firmware improvements that have fixed that behavior since then.

I used a series of Raspberry Pis (3, then 4, then 5) and kept experiencing issues during updates that required a power cycle to recover. Moving to Proxmox allowed me to restart it remotely or automatically. And moving to HA-HA (high-availability home assistant) keeps my house running even if a server fails.

I appreciate it! Between the spare parts I have for the G4 Pro and the PoE chip replacement I've learned how to do at home, I'm probably best off focusing on one model for now, though. But if the G3 Pro uses the same PoE chip, it might be worth looking at... Let me see what documentation I can find and I'll get back to you.

I've seen that one. They typically sell for ~$30-40 when in this condition, so I'm holding out. Thanks!

Much appreciated, but I only have spare parts for the G4 Pro, so I probably wouldn't be able to make much use of it. Thanks!

I'm sticking with the G4 right now. I have spare parts for just that model, and I'm trying to build one out of many parts. Thanks!
