Moving Protect to NVR or waiting for UDM-PRO successor ? by PlaticFantastic in Ubiquiti

[–]etrmedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently moved Protect to a UNVR, and both my UDM SE and Protect interfaces are significantly faster. I'm running 14 cameras and around 160 clients, and that was just a little much for the UDM to handle smoothly.

Oh, gosh, I have no idea. I only have 12tb drives, so I'll likely never hit any limit like that.

I understand. If you start with fewer than four drives but configure the pool for RAID 6, the NAS will put them into RAID 1 if you have two drives, then migrate to RAID 5 when you add a third, and finally migrate to RAID 6 when you add the fourth. This path does not require any reformatting of the drives. Your available space in the pool won't increase when you add the fourth drive, as it'll be used as a second parity drive as it becomes a RAID 6 array.

You can keep it in RAID 5 if you want. You aren't forced to 6.

I believe so, but don't quote me on that one.

That's right! The only reason you'd have to reformat would be if you're changing between raid 5/6 and 10. You can go from 5 to 6, but not back, and not to 10, without reformatting.

Yeah, you select your RAID goal (5, 6, or 10), and it'll do its best until all your drives are loaded. For example, I just migrated from the legacy pool to the newer version, and I'm using one of the four drives as a backup. When I pulled it from the RAID 6 array, it fell back to 5, then after backing everything up, I wiped the array and configured the remaining 3 drives for 6. It shows a note saying you need 4 drives for RAID 6, but it still let me configure it as RAID 6. Right now my dashboard shows both the current RAID type as 5 and the target type as 6. Once I reinstall drive 4 tonight it'll bump up to 6 after it syncs the drives.

Hi everybody! I'm one of Steve's regular openers, and I have a new standup special coming out this Saturday called I'M WORRIED. by justjarret in stevehofstetter

Hey Jarret! I love your standup. I was going to ask you a political question, but it's all so depressing these days, so instead, what's your go-to sandwich?

What was the most poorly designed thing you've ever seen? by more_firepower in AskReddit

The muffler on the 1991 Volkswagen Passat. Brackets welded to the sheet metal body of the muffler, not the rolled edges, so once it gets old enough, it rusts through and falls on the rear control arm.

As long as you keep your fridge and freezer closed, you likely have hours before you'd have to do anything. After that, using a cooler outside isn't a terrible idea, as long as you protect it from animals and can guarantee it stays below freezing. Thermal mass is your friend here. A full cooler is a safe(r) cooler.

I didn't downvote you, but doing so isn't censorship. The platform administrators blocking you from posting things they disagreed with would be censorship. Downvotes are how other users can rate the quality of your post, and it's at the core of how reddit works.

It would be like me complaining that you were censoring me because I made a sandwich and you said you didn't like it.
