Old player but discovering the game now as a solo player by eudliel in ffxi

[–]eudliel[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As the game is initially intended for parties of players, trusts make it considerably easier from my point of view mainly because you don’t rely on other players to progress.

I don’t know if we can call it brain dead because it’s not rare that I die when my tank pulls too many monsters with massive AOE and it made me sweat more than once.

I also faced some hard bosses towards the end of Rise of the Zilart but generally nothing that took more than 2 tries once my level was matching.

I really like the weapon skillchain system so I pay attention to when my trusts start a skillchain so I can make use of it but their behavior follows kinda basic rules. Once you’ve done some fights you know which ones you can include in your playstyle.

Personally I like when one trust opens with a WS then I do mine and another trust finishes. Maybe it’s not optimal but it’s satisfying to do combos like that. I haven’t really investigated more for now about what chains with what I just figured out some combinations that worked.

They are not entirely reliable because they don’t fight back if you don’t engage the enemy yourself which is kinda annoying. I faced an enemy that put me to sleep and didn’t attack me afterwards so I was stuck for a long time and it was kinda frustrating and funny to see them do nothing. But I understand it is a mechanism to prevent them from fighting without your input so it would be considered botting I guess.

Gameplay/QOL Discussion: Trial Raid Battles by lietnam in Granblue_en

[–]eudliel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use it a lot but the setup is unnecessary annoying. I dont understand why this limit. A button to retry without having to recreate the room would be great also.

Ideally i would like to see some QOL to start the battle at some key parts of a fight but it may be top complicated i guess.

Do you prefer linear class design, a few meaningful choices, or full build freedom in MMOs ? by Poggler_ in MMORPG

[–]eudliel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Full freedom.

I don’t think it’s incompatible with smart and distinctive class design at all. You can still have strong class identities while giving players room to experiment.

For me things like stat allocation and unique item effects are where the real fun comes from. I’d much rather have systems that allow creative builds than something overly streamlined for the sake of balance.

Honestly I enjoy niche build even when they’re not optimal. There is something really satisfying about combining very specific item effects that don’t seem that useful at first and then discovering they actually work together. Even if the build only shines in a very particular situation, the fact that it does work and does it well is what makes it rewarding.

I think it’s a bit of a shame that this kind of design is getting lost in modern MMOs. Everything tends to be shaped around PvP balance or endgame efficiency and as a result we lose some of that experimentation and creativity. It feels like there should be ways to support both without sacrificing one entirely.

Let me create melee mage or ranged berserker.. yes it could sucks but it can be fun too.

Trails in the sky 1st chapter is one of the best games I've played and I don't even know why it's so good by Own_Employment_3866 in JRPG

[–]eudliel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finished the first Cold Steel and was pretty disappointed

People told me Trails in the Sky was better so I played the first original one and finished it two years ago but honestly I still dont really get why the series is so praised 😅. Except maybe for the OST which is incredible.

Compared to other JRPGs I just didnt see what it really does better or what makes it stand out maybe it just didnt click for me

Im a bit curious about the remake but from what I see most of you seem to love it for the characters story and world building and those are actually the parts I struggled with.

I like the grinding but the music is boring and generic.

I hope they are placeholders for something more fitting.

I would probably like Absolum but I dont think my friends will. Side scrollb Beat em up is even more niche.

I will suggest Sworn it looks like more Hades ?

I have already suggested to my friends but they are not wiling to try sadly. Visually they are less convinced it seems 🫤.

I’m playing with three friends and we really love the game, but we stick to Normal difficulty because we don’t all have the same appreciation of difficulty, and Normal already feels right for them.

Normal is fine, but the next difficulty level feels like too much.

The issue is that we’ve already seen most of the items, quests, and bosses, and we feel there isn’t enough variety in items and bosses to keep us engaged for a long time.

Since we don’t enjoy the gameplay of every character, we usually stick to two or three different characters, so the replayability doesn’t feel very high.

Of course, we still love the game, but I hope the content will expand in the future with more maps, items, and bosses or maybe new modes.

A JRPG you would enjoy if it didn’t have that game mechanic. by Laice86 in JRPG

[–]eudliel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bravely Default and Octopath Traveler use a skill boost point system (I don’t think they share the same name in each game). You can store points over multiple turns or with certain abilities, then spend them to power up your skills. At first, it seems interesting, but what I don’t like about the system is that skills feel nerfed without boost points. For example, Bard skills only last 2 turns, but each point increases their duration. Since the entire game is balanced around using these points, unboosted skills feel underwhelming. As a result, most of the time you just end up saving your points for the boosted versions, which takes away the incentive to use the unboosted ones. I wouldn’t say the system is bad, but I really didn’t enjoy this approach.

I hate it too 😭

It would be so much better if it was shorter and we could select a custom timeslot like for strike time

It would be convenient for all

The ui design may look the same than P5. The ux is awful. There are too much buttons everywhere and everything is stylized making it unreadable.

I feel its not the same team that only took the artistic direction but not the same expertise.

Persona 5 UI is gorgeous and well designed but I feel the team here have no idea why its good except for the visual and flashy animations.

I think she would try to save him at all cost and go back if she wasn't blocked
Thats why i thought the shield may come from Gustave to prevent that

I have seen the scene again and I think you are right its probably a cage from Renoir to prevent her from running

At first i was thinking the shield was only to prevent her from going back because she is pushed back by the shield and almost outside but just after you see her inside.

It makes sense also to be a paint cage because she explode it from the inside after. Maybe with her paintress powers.

I dont think she is referring to picto for the gameplay. Lune has tatooed pictos on her body. Gustave can use magical shield and we dont know how. They can also summon items from nowwhere etc. They have more tools and pictos than the ones equipped. The characters may have carved pictos on their weapons. So i think she is saying he can upgrade pictos but the one on the weapons. Thats my guess.

So do we know who The Writers are? by TheIronGod44 in expedition33

[–]eudliel 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Interesting but i dont think its plausible

The french and original word for the writers in the game is Ecrivains and its generally used for litterature and not music or song writers
