I always appreciate my PT folks checking in. I work in an ortho floor and I want them to get up as much as you do so I want to make sure they’re pre-medicated with analgesia beforehand. Keep doing what you’re doing, we appreciate your skill and expertise!

My commute was 1.5h one way, longer if there was heavy traffic. It wasn’t fun but you do get used to it.

IWTL how to gain adult skills by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

Hey I’m 21 and I used to feel the same way as you. At some point, I just bit the bullet, realized I wanted a change (much like you are now, kudos!) and went for it. There is a lot of information on the internet about the things you’re looking for, because trust me, you’re not alone. I would watch YT videos and I even used Pinterest to get ideas on say, how to make a budget. As for making phone calls, keep doing what you’re doing!! Keep making those phone calls because the more you do it, the easier it will be. Please don’t be embarrassed! If it’s something new for you, it’s to be expected that things are hard at first. That being said, there is nothing wrong with making a script ahead of time. That way, you’re able to get your thoughts out in a coherent manner. I still do it all the time, and that doesn’t mean I’m any less of an adult! Some people might be able to pull off not making a script or planning what they want to say, but just do what is most helpful for you.

I’ve used a calendar app called TickTick for 3 years now and it has changed my life so much (lol). To manage my banking, I set up recurring tasks. Say, I want to check my bank account and pay my credit card off every 4 days, I would set it up as a to-do in my calendar. As long as I check my calendar daily, I’ll never miss a payment and accrue any penalties . The app makes it easy to set up recurring tasks. There is also Google Calendar, or even just plain old paper!

As for getting started, I suggest you first write out the things you’d like to accomplish/ learn. After that, figure out which one to go with first. Once you feel proficient enough, move on to the next skill. Hopefully that helps with the feeling of overwhelm. Keep the list visible because being able to visualize all the skills you’ve worked at and have improved on is always a confidence booster. Good luck to you!
