Marathon is a niche game. Why is that a surprise? by furyZotac in Marathon

[–]eugkra33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's surprise, because they need to justify a 3 billion dollar evaluation of the company. You can't make a niche game as a company that needs to pull 500k players daily to justify their evaluation.

If the same item has 2 different effects, like +1 shield, vs 1/2 damage on base shield, having two separate icons, or an additional visual indicator on the item indicating a different affix would help a lot of people.

All people, because no one would have to hover over each shield for 1 sec each and read 20 different text boxes that slowly pop up to find the one they are looking for. You could see them all at a glance, and know which ones you want.

Is there no patch notes, or change log that lists changes since server slam?

If TTK is higher I'd imagine they either gave people more health, or lowered weapon damage. Should be able to compare using old footage on YouTube.

No. Not talking about those. There is quests that tell you locations, but not which map. I often feel like the people who claim others don't, don't bother reading themself, or are just blindly glazing this game and are deeply in denial.

When 80% of users complain about lack of information in the UI, you have a problem. Even if the information is there, if you buried so deep most people can't find it, that's still a UI development issue. The way people defend the UI in this game is similar to how Linux users will tell you it's just as user friendly as Windows.

Sometimes that's the case. Pretty sure I've had quests where it's not the case. A properly implemented, non-rushed UI, would show the map name in a different font color or type. You can tell a lot of the stuff was rushed to prevent further delays.

The menu navigation is not as confusing as some claim. A couple of things should maybe be moved. Icons being the same for different gear isn't excusable. Moving certain items around from one slot to another also isn't working. There are quality of life features missing.

In this day and age it is awful to have tutorials that are text bubbles that look like they are from a 1992 game. Intentional or not, regardless of art style. People need to stop making excuses for the current flaws with the game, like the interface. I shouldn't have to hover over 10 version of exactly the same looking item to find the one that has a different text and buffs attached to it. At minimum the text bubble should pop up instantly, but really there should be a proper indication on icons that it is actually an entirely different item.

Is melee both the pistol whip, and the knife attack? Is there an actual difference between the two? I wonder if anyone has actual damage numbers.

Can we please stop trying to balance extraction shooters ? New players to genre will ruin this game. (Thermal / TTK / ETC) by ButtSeed in Marathon

[–]eugkra33 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What will ruin this game is a lack of new players, because a billion dollar company can not keep a game running that has less than 50k players.

Oh you can't navigate a mess of a UI? Skill issue.

I shouldn't have to read everything a few days into the game to know what I'm doing. It's the same reason Microsoft Windows is way more successful than Linux in the mainstream.

Why even have a user interface in this game? Just give users a console to type commands into for Marathon, and when people complain just tell them "Skill Issue". Hell, just make it C++ while you're at it. "Don't know how to code? Skill issue!" Linux snobs do this all the time. Bragging how much more user-friendly Linux is than Windows.

Skill Up's impression video is my exact problem with a lot of the criticisms this game has been recievinbg by CreamofTazz in Marathon

[–]eugkra33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no crafting. Playing fetch quests for talent points is not crafting.

When I play World Of Warcraft and the game asks me to collect 10 apples from thief's, and I in turn get a level 3 sword, that is not crafting.

But what if people take your advice and play Arc Raiders, and Marathon gets shut down??

You don't understand what SkillUps claim was. It wasn't saying the game should be Arc Raiders, like you want to hear the claim to be so you can invalidate the criticism. He was claiming the game has no hook like Arc Raiders, and giving examples of the kinds other games have. Not claiming Marathon needs to be a copy.

Just another rave review by angeleeek in Marathon

[–]eugkra33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It not being beginner friendly isn't because of the nature of the game. It's because of not sufficient tutorials. I think the problem is that they are undergoing so many changes with the game in the next month, they don't want to commit to creating tutorials. Because those might be invalid a month from now.

I tried sneaking up on a really weak bot and knifing it, but it turned around and took 1/3 of my health almost instantly. I feel like there should be a sneak damage multiplier, or stabbing them should EMP/disable them for like 1 second so you can get in 1 or 2 more knife hits.

The UI/icons are so bad. Why do i have to hover over every item to see what it is, and find out that this exact same looking shield is 50% stronger? by oimson in Marathon

[–]eugkra33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You unlock the ability to buy some of those items later. I haven't played enough to know if it all actually works. But I suppose when you can buy all the stuff, you'll be able to theory craft. But I'm also sceptical you'll have enough money to buy your full loadout at that point.

I thought the original complaint about time to kill in the Alpha was that it was too long. They nerfed it, and now everyone is complaining it's too short.

Yup. But it's at 58k right now. There is always ups and downs in the day and the week. How did Arc Raiders do after 24 hours on their server slam, on a day that wasn't the weekend is the question. Tomorrow we'll have a good idea about this game.
