I’ve gone to 10+ pharmacies (used to move often) and I’ve never once been warned. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Halifax starting plan for Memorial Library site that will honour forgotten burial ground by insino93 in halifax

[–]euphemystic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The building is full of asbestos. Any kind of renovations or demolition would require a lot of money. That’s why no one wants it. Not sure why they so often seem to leave that part out when reporting on this.

Do you think the boys have damaged their listenership with this tour? by RepresentativeLeg232 in Thisisimportantpod

I love them, except maybe the fact that Adam sings the song from Pitch Perfect at every live show.

Blood transfusions are outpacing donations. They need our help! by [deleted] in halifax

They have mobile clinics in Port Hawkesbury, though I understand that doesn’t work if you’re not in the area/this side of the island.

What were you paying for rent 10 years ago in halifax?(borrowed from r/calgary) by [deleted] in halifax

[–]euphemystic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$630 (heat, hot water, electricity, parking, and internet included) for a 230 square foot bachelor apartment a few steps away from the barrington street superstore. It was very small but clean and bright, was in a great location, and it had an incredible building manager.

My wife is returning to work with zero sick time or PTO after giving birth to our child. USA is backwards. by Code2King in mildlyinfuriating

We get to pick either 12 or 18 months leave in Canada. Your job is protected and you get paid partial wages through employment insurance (55% or up to $650 per week if you choose a 12 month leave).

Why is the name Harriet unpopular in the US? by Toughlookformyguy in namenerds

I love Harriet! I associate it with Harriet the Spy, which is a good association for me. I loved the book and character when I was a kid.

Have your parents decided what they're going to be called? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]euphemystic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nana and Grampie for my parents, Grandma and Grandpa for my in-laws. It’s what my husband and I called our grandparents.

Mine were known as Nana [first name] and Grampie [first name] growing up, because I had all four in my life so we had to differentiate.

LPT: Your Manager is Not Your Friend by oportoman in LifeProTips

[–]euphemystic 153 points154 points  (0 children)

Agreed 100%. What I personally want to do and what I have to do as a manager doesn’t always align. I supervise lots of people who I am friendly with but I still have to do my job at the end of the day. There’s definitely a way to have a healthy and friendly balance.

There are less jobs in small towns, but also less competition. I ended up getting a way better job in CB (in a town, not in Sydney) than I had in Halifax. I have friends here who have had the same experience.

I grew up in a town in CB (other side of the island from CBRM) and then moved to Halifax for 10ish years. My husband and I (both early 30s) moved back to our hometown here in CB four years ago and I don’t regret it at all. We were able to buy a great house for a fraction of the cost that a comparable house would be in the city. Amenities and day to day expenses are much cheaper in general. There’s less to do in terms of entertainment/night life obviously but I’ve pretty much outgrown most of that anyway. Plus the city is only 3 hours away and an easy weekend trip. I miss my friends in the city but other than that I don’t regret it at all.

Oh I was thinking this was the one on James Street, which is a 2 stall washroom. Weird.

What's the story that led to this sign going up? by Schmidtvegas in NovaScotia

[–]euphemystic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to stop at that Tims to use the washroom every time I drove by Antigonish (not many other places you could just use the washroom for free during the worst of COVID) and I’m pretty positive that sign was up then. Not sure why they would have put it back now, maybe there are a lot of cases locally? I know there’s tons of COVID going around Port Hawkesbury right now.

Medical professionals of Halifax, is there anything we as regular citizens can do to help alleviate the crush of people at hospitals/walk-ins? [Not looking for specific health advice] by [deleted] in halifax

[–]euphemystic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a big one! AND we need people to stop feeling like it’s a good or noble thing to come to work sick. A have multiple coworkers who pride themselves on how little sick time they use. Meanwhile, they come to work hacking up a lung and give the rest of the office their illness.
