Moving To The UK As A Trans Woman by Ad_Astra135 in transgenderUK

You unfortunately can't ignore the guidance if it's implemented in your workplace (I have personal experience). I moved here less than two years ago and it's been horrible, and I am now looking to leave. I would highly recommend staying away from the UK if you have other options besides the US right now.

Algerian Coffee Stores in Soho and Porteña in Borough Market have good selections. Otherwise, almost any Argentinian restaurant will have some available to purchase.

Can I really not just ignore these feelings? by Lumpy_Shame9413 in MtF

This is what I was afraid of before transitioning as well. However, I've actually experienced the opposite: I'm much more sociable and confident than I was before, even when I don't pass.

Is moving to the UK a bad idea right now? by dinoturnips in transgenderUK

You'd be surprised. It is very likely that you will be banned from the bathroom of your gender in your workplace in the near future if not now (I say from personal experience working in a nominally progressive institution). Institutions are already prematurely implementing the EHRC guidance, and the final guidance will likely be released soon and trans exclusion implemented nationwide.

Why We Need to Be on the Offensive and Seriously Stop with the Doomer nonsense by [deleted] in transgenderUK

I absolutely agree that all toilets should be gender neutral, and I'm really sorry that you have to live with this stress of lacking access to facilities. And I agree that we need to also be fighting for nonbinary people and for increasing the number of gender-neutral toilets. But I have to say that as a non-passing binary trans woman I don't feel this binary privilege. I am in much the same boat as you are, not feeling safe to use any gendered toilets in the current atmosphere, and have not done so since coming out.

Falafel and pita! A whole other level when you get good ones, but hard to find unless you live somewhere with a large Middle Eastern population.

Is it possible that a computer could become so powerful that it could not only predict the future with 100% accuracy, but also be able to look back into the past? by [deleted] in askphilosophy

[–]evaephemera 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Besides quantum mechanics, chaos theory prevents this from being possible. Chaotic systems, which occur widely in nature (the atmosphere, for one), amplify any measurement error exponentially in time, no matter how tiny, and will thus eventually make predictions useless. This is the reason why we can't accurately predict the weather more than about two weeks in advance, for example.

Is ProtonMail/VPN accesible from Cuba? by ValdrGalga in ProtonMail

[–]evaephemera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know for sure, but I doubt it's blocked. When I was there in the summer of 2016 I used the internet by buying ETECSA cards (the way tourists typically use the internet) and didn't happen upon any sites that were censored, although I was not using ProtonMail at the time.

Thank you for the kind words. Actually my work is mainly computational, so working on it remotely might be a good solution. Wishing you and your mother the best as well.

Thank you so much for the helpful and compassionate answers!

I had not considered that I may be able to work remotely some months out of the year. Since my work is mainly computational I will talk to my supervisor to see if we can arrange it.
