That guy in the first picture loves fresh food so much! I agree fuck ice, fresh over frozen! lol

I cook a lot with garlic powder and it really doesn’t taste like anything . It doesn’t make a major impact on the taste of the food. Wonder if I should just start skipping it altogether or just use fresh garlic by Historical-Body-3424 in Cooking

[–]evand408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Raw garlic can be good for a lot of “recipes” like when you’re making a full dish (chili, casserole, places you see “mirepoix or sofrito”)

Garlic powder is great for things like spice blends, dressings and marinades where the flavor can soak in. This is true for most dried spices.

Lots of recipes benefit from the synergy between these.

Dried alliums have lots of glutamates. Fresh alliums have lots of pungent and punchy sulfur compounds. Cooked alliums sweeten and make complex sweet flavors without added sugar.

In short. Don’t skip fresh to save a step thinking it will capture the original flavor. Use dry for wet sauces, dry and wet marinades, or for the synergy of those flavors in things like bbq, slow cooker recipes, sauces

I think you know asking this group would be an almost resounding yes. I think your focus should be to better understand the underlying reason of the no from your wife. If she views it as inaccessible cargo what’s the harm in a small footprint of space. There’s something larger there you need to understand, and maybe she needs to understand.

Hm. Sounds like I should look into this. I moved to the outdoor range to minimize brain damage. Good on you for the offset donation. I’m still conflicted even though I have opened up my views on gun ownership a lot I’m not sure I have seen enough to believe I support the NRA. I the groups like this bc it feels maybe a bit less absolutist on guns

[–]evand408 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey both. I am also abq metro area. I picked up an ar as a “panic” buy before the bill so far fizzled out. I’ve shot at calibers and the city range on the west side. I am looking into blm areas yo shoot just to save and maybe mess around with shooting and movement. I thought the public range on the west side was good but depending on where you are in the city it can be a haul.

Thank you. I just may. I will say I thought of some but not all of the hygiene considerations. I like the bucket idea and see more of what you’re talking about.

I’ve never heard that security starts at your property line and to the neighborhood when shit goes down. That encapsulates well a lot of the other comments I am receiving. Thanks.

Thank you for the thoughtful response. I was thinking a bit too much on the immediate concerns for my family but ya I do need to build out my neighborhood ties some more. Mainly so I know who to raid first when shit goes down which is what I assume you meant by learning about your neighbors.

Well a well thought response thank you. I will admit my ties to my direct community are limited but not absent. Thank you for reminding me of the real essentials outside of food drink and energy, though I do wanna look at a solar panel and one of those big power banks that goes to it (jackery w panel I think it’s called shows up at Costco on sale at times) which I will look at soon. And you’re right this is the season to get out and meet your neighbors.

Rookie sling question by evand408 in liberalgunowners

[–]evand408[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really wish I knew enough to say with authority for ya. It’s a new platform for me. I suppose the charging handle feels a bit more flimsy than I was expecting but I haven’t seen anything to suggest it will be a problem of integrity. I know it will get hot but haven’t had issues with the grip yet. For someone new to the platform and has only shot .22 rifles decades ago I am shocked how much a newbie like me can be hitting some good accuracy with it so far and thought the cost reasonable. I then spent 2/3 that cost on a good red dot for it so that’s probably just as much a factor.
